    Obituary:

It is with great sadness that the loving family of Gerald Vincent Kilfoil announce his passing on Thursday, February 25, 2016. He passed away very peaceful at his beloved home in Johnville.
Born April 9, 1925 in Johnville he was the son of the late Vincent and Mary (Crain) Kilfoil.

Survived by wife Anna (Bell), children Mary (Ed) Leech of Halifax, Gerry (Donna) of St. John’s, NF, Vincent (Brenda) Bristol, Pat (Andrea) Johnville, Michelle (Peter) Noonan, Kathrine (Peter) Wood, Lincoln Pennsylvania, Maria of Amherst, Massachusetts, Mike (Wanda) Osgoode ON, Sean (Corinne) Bath, step son, Mitchell York (Shawn) Bristol, 21 grandchildren, sisters Frances Johnston, Fredericton, Margaret McHarg, Saint John and Murray (Peggy) of New Glasgow, NS.

Predeceased by his first wife Joan (Brennan) and brothers William, Raymond, Harold and two infant brothers Clarence and Joseph, nephews Allison and Stephen Brennan and Martin and Eric Kilfoil, as well as several brother and sister in laws.

Gerald spent his life doing what he loved most: farming, working in the woods and raising his family. As the children were growing up this often included many family vacations to Prince Edward Island. In later years, he and Anna traveled to Nashville, Branson, New York City, Florida and Ireland. They also visited with family in Newfoundland, Ontario, Pennsylvania and Nova Scotia.

His pastimes included gardening, hooking rugs, reading, and taking drives around the countryside to check on all the crops. After lunch he often enjoyed having a nap on the kitchen cot. There was nothing Gerald loved more than hearing all the news from both family and friends and he usually had a few stories to share with anyone who stopped in for a visit. He was truly happy when his children and grandchildren all gathered in the kitchen for a big home cooked meal telling stories and sharing events in their daily lives.

Gerald shared a keen interest in genealogy and local history with his siblings. He was very dedicated to the church and interested in the community. Over the years, Gerald volunteered his time to many groups and committees.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Colin Lockhart and the dedicated home care workers, without their care and support Gerald would not have been able to stay where he loved - home on the farm.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 2-8 pm from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on , Monday, February 29, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Johnville. Gerald’s nephew, Rev. Bill Brennan and Rev. Obituary:

In celebration of a life well lived, the family of Frances (Kilfoil) Johnston announces her peaceful passing on March 14, 2020 at Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John, NB. Born on October 20, 1921 in Johnville, NB, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Catherine (Crain) Kilfoil.

She will be remembered for being a tireless volunteer at many events, including the CWL, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Epsilon Y’s Menettes’ Club. Frances will be remembered for being an exceptionally hard worker, with her knitting, sewing, quilting, and baking - hence the nickname "Gramma Cookie". She welcomed and entertained, any and all company, and could prepare a delicious meal at a moment’s notice. Her interest in all ages, and her listening ear to many, was reflected in her multitude of visits, calls and letters from near and far.

Frances is survived by her only sister, Margaret McHarg; two sister-in-laws, Anna Kilfoil and Peggy Kilfoil; her four children, Patricia Mabey, Dan Johnston (Rosemary), Joe Johnston (Joan) and Rob Johnston (Tracey); eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews; as well as her dear friend, Marg Gorman.

She will now be reunited with her husband of 57 years, Clarence J. Johnston; daughter, Marie Johnston, who died in 2019; as well as her five brothers, Bill, Gerald, Raymond, Harold and Murray Kilfoil.

Frances was a beautiful person, that led a beautiful life, always content and felt blessed. She loved her friends, family and faith unconditionally. In her words, she never expected to live "this" long. One of her many quotes that we will recall fondly, is her genuine thank you for every item, especially a bag of potatoes, "this will do me out", said with a smile.

At this time, due to the current health recommendations pertaining to large gatherings, the funeral mass will be for family members only. A celebration of Frances’ life and reception will be held at a later date in the spring. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Martin Kilfoil Memorial Fund, The Newburg Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.

  1. 29.  Mary Agnes KILFOILMary Agnes KILFOIL Descendancy chart to this point (15.Gerald3, 2.Vincent2, 1.Martha1) was born on 26 Aug 1956 in Johnville, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada; died on 7 Sep 2023 in Halifax, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

    Notes:

    Obituary:
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Mary Agnes Kilfoil, born on August 28, 1956, in Johnville, New Brunswick. Mary passed away peacefully at her home, in Halifax Nova Scotia, on September 7th, 2023. Mary lived life with infinite love, grace, generosity, and selfless devotion to family, friends, and community. She was a woman of remarkable achievements and boundless energy. We will miss her razor-sharp intellect, wit, insightful words of wisdom, and uncanny ability to lighten any room she walked into.
Mary cherished her family and embraced life's simple joys. She found immense happiness in being a mother to Zach, who forever will be her pride and joy. Mary met her soulmate, Dr. Ed Leach in 1999, and they married in August 2005. Together, they built a life that integrated both family and career resulting in a life filled with love and adventure.
Mary's warm heart extended to her large and loving family. She was the eldest of nine siblings - Gerald Kilfoil (Donna), Vincent Kilfoil (Brenda), Patrick Kilfoil (Andrea), Michelle Ralph (Peter), Katherine Wood (Peter), Maria Kilfoil, Michael Kilfoil (Wanda), Sean Kilfoil (Corinne) and a stepsister to Mitchell York. She was a devoted mother to Zach and a caring stepmother to Trilby Sylvain (Garrett), Patrick Leach (Francine), Nathan Leach, and Kevin Leach. Mary was an aunt who loved spending time with her 20 nieces and nephews. Nana Mary cherished being a grandmother to Callia Sylvain, Kaelan Sylvain, Grace Leach, and Cecilia Leach, who have fond memories of baking and sewing with her. She was often at their sporting events cheering them on. Mary loved spending time with family, travel, and vacations, especially at Hubbards Beach. Mary was predeceased by her mother Joan (Brennan) Kilfoil, father, Gerald Kilfoil, and stepmother Anna York Kilfoil.
Mary held graduate degrees from Dalhousie University (Ph.D., Economics) and Carleton University (M.A., Economics) and as well as undergraduate degrees in economics (Saint Mary’s University) and business administration (St. FX University). She taught at Acadia University, Mount St. Vincent University, Saint Mary’s University and at Dalhousie University in the fields of economics, entrepreneurship, research methods, public policy, program evaluation, and quantitative analysis. Mary also had 20 years of experience in the private sector as an entrepreneur, consultant, academic, researcher and policy analyst in a wide range of local, regional, and national studies.
Mary’s crowning achievement was the development and deployment of the Starting Lean course. As the Director of the Norman Newman Centre for Entrepreneurship at Dalhousie University, Mary dedicated her life to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Her visionary leadership propelled the Centre to new heights, and she was the driving force behind bringing the Starting Lean course to Dalhousie in 2012. This ground-breaking program, which combined Lean Launchpad methodologies with mentorship, revolutionized entrepreneurial education. In recognition of her exceptional contributions, Mary was honored with the national Entrepreneurship Educator award from Startup Canada in 2014. Her experience in both the private sector and as a senior economist at Gardner Pinfold Consultants exemplified her commitment to economic analysis and policy.
She and her husband were soulmates dedicated to supporting the success of those they encountered. They were exemplars of vibrant active agers, showing what they could accomplish after age 65. On June 21st of this year Mary won second place in a national pitch competition for her presentation of the Certified Age Friendly Employers program. She was in the advanced stages of completing a pilot with TIANS (the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia) and was about to scale a proven solution that enhanced economic productivity by addressing a labour shortage in the tourism sector while at the same time demonstrating the positive impact of “purpose” in people’s health outcomes.
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and colleagues. She leaves behind a legacy of innovation, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to fostering entrepreneurship that will extend for generations to come.
A celebration of Mary's life will take place Saturday September 16th at the Banook Canoe Club, 17 Banook Ave Dartmouth.
