    Died 3-30-1998 at a Mars Hill health care facility after a brief illness. He was born 12-31-1903 at Mineral, NB., Canada the son of Abe and Maude (Kinney) Oates. He was a former resident of NB, Canada where he attended local schools. Later he became a 22 year resident of Fort Fairfield and for the past 48 years a resident of Easton. He farmed for many years in the local area until his retirement. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alice (Lockhart) Oakes. He is survived by his wife, Marion (Crouse) Oakes of Easton, 2 sons and daughters in law, Hollis and Eleanor Oakes of Savage, MD. and Dale and Sheila Oakes of Vacaville, CA., 3 daughters and sons in law, Mrs. Muriel LaPointe of Easton, Mrs. Verne (Maxine) Leeper of Sanbornville, NH. and Mrs. Irwin (Elouise) Engler of Phoenix, AZ., 2 brothers, Reuben of Florenceville, NB., Canada and Lionel of Bath, NB., Canada, one sister, Mrs. Richard (Maudie) Goodwin of Abington, MA., 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews

    At Northern Carleton Hospital Bath on Tuesday, June 29, 2004, Reuben Lee Oakes of Florenceville, passed away at the age of 92. Reuben is survived by his loving wife Isabell (Wheeler) Oakes, daughter, Anne Marie (John) Mossman of Fredericton, sons James (Carolyn) Oakes of Kelowna, BC, and William (Jennifer) Oakes of Fredericton, step-chidlren, Melody (Timothy) Botterbusch of York, PA, and Dr. Lynwood (Lauren) Wheeler of Hattiesburg, MISS, brother, Lionel (Marlene) Oakes of Beechwood, NB, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Abraham and Maude (Kinney) Oakes, his first wife, Frances, sisters Beatrice and Maudie, Brothers Harden, James and Ralph. Resting at Kilcollins Chapel, Florenceville, visiting Thursday July 1, 2004, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 1 P.M. from the Holmesville Free Will Baptist Church, Pastor Dwayne Broad and Rev. James Pitman to officiate. Interment will be in the McCain Cemetery, Florenceville. Donations may be made to the NB Heart and Stroke, Holmesville Free Will Baptist Church or to a memorial of the donor's choice.     The death of Lionel Oakes of Beechwood occurred on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Perth Andover. Born on March 11, 1926 in Mineral he was the son of the late Abraham and Maude (Kinney) Oakes. He was also predeceased by 4 brothers, Harden, Jim, Ralph and Rueben; 2 sisters, Beatrice and Maudie.

    Lionel received is mechanic's licence while serving in the US Military in Korea from 1951-1953.

    Lionel is survived by his wife , Marlene (nee Shaw); 5 children, Gayle Tompkins (Johnny), Stephen Oakes (Wanda), Carol Rankin (David), Janet Stephenson and Alan Oakes (Pam); 9 grandchildren, Justin Stephenson, Tyler Oakes, Levi Tompkins, Sarah Tompkins, Lindsay Oakes, Laura Rankin, Luke Rankin, Sam Oakes and Seth Oakes; 1 great grandson, Fletcher McLaughlin.

    Visitation will be held from the Beechwood United Baptist Church on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 1-3 pm. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm to celebrate his life.
