    Obituary:

With appreciation of a life lived in full, the family of Ellen (Helen) Barry announce her peaceful death at home in Grand Bay-Westfield on Saturday, July, 22, 2017. Born on September 11, 1923 in Johnville, Carleton Co., NB. She was eldest daughter of the late Cloud and Gertrude (Pickard) Boyd.

Helen graduated high school in 1941 from St. Mary's Academy. The following year, she was granted a First Class Teacher's License from the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton. Always a teacher, in school or out, she began her first job at eighteen, teaching in a one-room school house in Kiloween, Carleton Co. She taught until 1976 and finished her classroom career as a grade one teacher at Grand Bay Elementary. Her 'little people', as she called her first-graders, grew up in her classes. Many of her pupils never forgot the help and care 'Mrs. Barry' gave to their first year of schooling.

Helen married Ronald Barry on June 30, 1948 in the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Johnville. They began married life in Petersville, Queen's Co., before moving to Grand Bay and raising six children. They were married for over thirty-five years when Ronnie died. She was also predeceased by two sons: Lynn and Louis; her first grandchild: Jennifer MacFarlane; sister: Maddie Logue (Johnny); brothers: Basil Boyd (Teresa); Walter (Sam) Boyd (Betty); and Arnold Boyd (Cecelia).

She is survived by her sons: Boyd and Paul, Grand Bay-Westfield; daughters: Suzanne MacFarlane, Saint John; Jacqueline Butler, Calgary AB; daughter-in-law: Joanne Barry, Quispamsis; grandchildren: Nicholas MacFarlane (Nicola), Caledonia, ON; Matthew Butler and Andrew Butler, Sydney, NS; Emily Butler, Calgary; Shannon Wentworth (Scott), Quispamsis; Jan Barry (Mike Mazerolle); Grand Bay-Westfield; and Shelby Barry, Saint John; great-grandchildren: Loucas and Bodhi Wentworth and Maisie Mazerolle; sisters: Barbara Krochenski (Walter, deceased); Wilhelmina (Billie) Benson (Joe, deceased); Denise Vanderkley (Karl); and Pauline Lavery (Alex); and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Helen was a relentless reader. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, cross stitch and refinishing furniture. She was an enthusiast at auctions and, in later years, revelled in deals found and negotiated via Kijiji. Virtually her whole life, she loved singing and dancing.

A devout Catholic, she practiced her faith with thought and grace. Family was her other abiding love. She was a devoted wife, a selfless mother and an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She filled everyone's bellies with homemade breads, pies and cookies and nourished hearts and minds with learning, love and laughter.

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful and caring staff of the Extra-Mural Program, especially Mum's primary nurse, Ralph Johnson RN. To Judy Hickson, PSW, we will always be grateful for the uplifting and compassionate care you provided Mum when she needed it the most.

    ROCHENSKI, Barbara Mary
    July 12, 1929 - October 2, 2017
We are saddened to announce the passing of Barbara Krochenski, the morning of Monday, October 2, 2017 in Calgary at the Bow View Manor at the age of 88 years. Barbara was born on July 12, 1929, the fifth in a family of nine, three boys and six girls, to Cloud and Gertrude Boyd at the family home with no running water, telephone, or electricity in Johnville, Carleton County, New Brunswick. Barbara attended one room school houses up until high school, which she did by correspondence, then boarding in Newcastle, NB, for grade 11. Next was teacher's college in Fredericton. This was only six months long due to a teacher shortage, so she was in a classroom at 18 years of age. Two summer sessions in St. John, NB completed her requirements for her teacher's license. Barbara taught in one room school houses close to home for four and a half years, then William's Lake, BC, for two years, and Manitoulin Island for one more year for the Department of Indian Affairs. Finally, she ended up in Calgary at the Separate School Board at Sacred Heart and Holy Name schools. Teaching is how she met Walter, who was an accountant with the school board, whom she married on August 19, 1961 in the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Johnville and settled in Calgary, raising five children. They were married over 50 years before his passing. Barbara was also predeceased by, her sisters Maddie Logue (Johnny) and Helen Barry (Ronnie); brothers Basil (Teresa), Sam (Betty), and Arnold (Cecelia); and granddaughter Emily Guest. Barbara was known for her love of reading and a deep interest in any news of her children's school achievements. She had a seemingly infinite supply of wise Irish folk sayings - one of which she had ready for almost any situation. Obituary:
Pauline Lavery (née Boyd) passed away peacefully on October 14th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Pauline was born on February 23rd, 1938, in Johnville, New Brunswick, as the youngest of nine siblings. Her early years were marked by long walks to school, early mornings milking cows, potato picking; and fostering her lifelong love of music by learning to play the piano from the nuns at St. John the Evangelist Church.
After graduating from Bath Regional High School in 1955, Pauline pursued her passion for education and became a teacher. Her teaching career led her to Calgary, where she crossed paths with her future husband of 58 years, Alex. Pauline taught with the Calgary Catholic School District and as her family grew, she continued as a guest teacher. She later shifted to a role in Human Resources with the Calgary Health Region until she retired.
Above all, Pauline's greatest joy was her family. She was a dedicated sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. When not at home, she found solace in her faith as a devout Catholic, actively participating at Holy Spirit Parish. Pauline's voice filled the church choir, her piano playing was a staple during weekday masses, and enjoyed the fellowship of making rosaries with and for school children.
Pauline is survived by her loving husband, Alex, her cherished children, Jim (Marianne Bunker), Kate (Kevin Masters), Paul (Kyla Lavery), and Jenn (Ian Fero). Her memory lives on through her eight adoring grandchildren - Jakob, Tyler, Kyle, Alexandra, Brendan, Joel, Lukas, and Rachel. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Denise, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Pauline is now reunited in eternity with her parents, Cloud and Gertrude Boyd, and her siblings, Helen Barry, Maddie Logue, Billie Benson, Barbara Krochenski, Basil Boyd, Arnold Boyd, and Sam Boyd.
Pauline's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bouchard and the compassionate staff of the Applewood Unit at Providence Care Center for their unwavering kindness and support over the past seven years.
Pauline's memory will forever remain in our hearts. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the lives she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
