If they play cards in heaven, the angels are already down a couple dollars. Because it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Krochenski on Monday, September 28, 2014 at the age of 88 years. Beloved husband of Barbara for over 50 years. Predeceased by his parents, Ignatz and Anastasia, his sisters Helen Kuz, Mary Grocholski and his brothers Paul and Peter. He is survived by his sisters Anna Mazzei, and Sister Valerie [SSMI], children Stephen, Peter (Susan), Mary Jane (Gordon), Ellen, and Suzanne, as well as grandchildren Emma, Zoe, and Laura Krochenski, Shannon, Matthew, and Rachelle Krochenski, Hannah, Conor, and Cassie Matlock, and Emily Guest. The whereabouts of his brother Stanley is unknown. Born in Kindersley, SK, in 1926, he ran a furniture store there for several years, then moved to Edmonton, Saskatoon, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert before finally settling in Calgary in 1958. He shortly found a job with the Calgary Catholic Separate School Board as an accountant where he worked for the next 33 years. As well as his love of cards he was known for his carpentry skills as evidenced by the many pieces of furniture and home improvement projects he generously undertook to the benefit of his children and grandchildren. He was a man of grace and calm, a product of his deep Catholic faith. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke's Catholic Church (corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive NW) on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 10:30am. Graveside service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with the family through www.evanjstrong.com.
