    Obituary:

PERHAM - Phyllis Barton Blackstone, 93, of Perham, Maine went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2020, while at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle, Maine.

Phyllis was born in Houlton on September 8, 1926 to Roy A. Barton, Sr. and Maude (Anderson) Barton. She graduated from Bob Jones College (now Bob Jones University) in 1947. Phyllis and her five siblings all were proud to graduate from Bob Jones College/University. She taught school in Limestone and Washburn, Maine before marrying Wendell E. Blackstone in 1949. Wendell and Phyllis worked together on the family dairy and potato farm for more than 60 years. She was an expert seed-cutter, truck driver during harvest, and bookkeeper for the farm in alternating years with her sister, Joyce. After her five children were raised and on their own, she went back to school and earned a CNA degree using her new skills to work at the Caribou Nursing Home and Cary Medical Center as a ward secretary. She was a blessing to her patients and an encourager to her co-workers. Phyllis had a loving heart for people.

She was a faithful, long-time member of the Perham Baptist Church and served the Lord singing in the choir, playing the organ, and supporting her church family. Proverbs 3:5-6 were her life verses. She finished her life as she lived it - trusting in the Lord and being directed by Him.

Phyllis loved her family. Her life revolved around family gatherings, especially Christmas celebrations, which included her famous Blackstone Special, and the annual 4th of July Barton celebration at the lake, and family accomplishments. She was very proud of her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. Even as she grew older, she kept in touch on Facebook with her inspirational messages, her iPad, and FaceTime. She was a texting Gram extraordinaire. Her use of technology was impressive and her card making abilities were amazing.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, husband Wendell E. Blackstone, grandson Scott Blackstone, daughter-in-law Coleen Blackstone, brother Sherwood Barton and his wife Doris, brothers-in-law Paul Blackstone and Clayton Blackstone, Sr.

She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Blackstone Fox and husband Larry and Lori (Blackstone) Bouchard and husband Darrell, three sons Rev. Barry Blackstone, Jay Blackstone and wife Tamisue, and Michael Blackstone and wife Julie. She has nine much loved grandchildren: Brad Fox, Elliot Fox and girlfriend Kristen Gamboa, Marnie (Blackstone) Legaspi and husband Josue, Krysten Blackstone, Brennan Blackstone and girlfriend Sarah Morneault, Justen Blackstone and wife Olivia, Alyssa (Blackstone) Weldon and husband Brandon, Michaela Blackstone, and precious great-grandchildren Brynna and Connor Fox and Judah and Elena Legaspi. Phyllis is also survived by her three sisters Joyce (Barton) Blackstone, Gloria (Barton) Dinsmore and husband George, and Betty (Barton) Tompkins and husband Wendell, and one brother Roy A. Barton, Jr. and wife Joyce.

Phyllis’s family would like to thank the administration and staff at Leisure Village, especially THE GIRLS, for their loving care and concern for our mother. Also, our sincere thanks for the expert advice and assistance we received from those at the Aroostook House of Comfort.
