MERIDEN - Edwin Alexander Elliott Jr., 78, of Meriden, formerly of Bethany, passed away May 10, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

Ed was born Oct. 17, 1934, to the late Edwin Sr. and Barbara Alice Elliott in New Haven, the youngest of three children. He graduated on the dean's list from Quinnipiac University in 1962.

Ed served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was also a musician who had a country band for years and made a record for MGM and a solo album in Nashville. He was inducted into the Connecticut Country Music Hall of Fame. Ed was in the first CT School of Broadcasting class. During his career, he was a DJ and was a Nationwide Insurance agent until retirement.

Ed is survived by his wife, Johnnie; two daughters, Tracey and her husband, John, and Christy and her husband, Gary; five grandchildren, Michael, Steven, Sean, Karlee and Patrick; his sister-in-law, Shirley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was predeceased by his brother, Francis (Gene) Elliott, and his sister, Edna Shaw and her husband, Don (Buddy) Shaw.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory may be made to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven, 20 York St., New Haven, CT 06510; or to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Missionary Fund.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 750 Meriden-Waterbury Tpke., Southington. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Cheshire. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Obituary of Edwin Allan Welch

It is with sadness that the family of Edwin Allan Welch announces his passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the age of 78. Born in Glassville, NB, on December 10, 1943, he was the husband of Janet (Frye) Welch of Oromocto.

In addition to his wife, Janet, Ed leaves behind son, Edan Welch (Natalie Harvey); daughters, Erin McCabe (Adam) and Amy MacKinnon (Richard); grandchildren, Lauren, Emma and Josh McCabe, Graham MacKinnon and Jade Welch; brother, Fred Welch. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Jessie (Elliot) Welch.

Ed was a loving and devoted husband and father. Countless hours were spent travelling to and attending all types of sporting events supporting his three children--with Janet in tow. Oromocto High School is where he spent his entire teaching career and is also where Ed met and then later married Janet, a fellow teacher. Mr. Welch loved to lecture on anything history related and was even known to show a film or two!

Coaching was Ed’s true passion. Each team he coached became like a family. His influence was far reaching, and Ed couldn’t go many places without someone recognizing him. He enjoyed reminiscing about a memorable moment on the court or a humourous anecdote about a road trip. All of you had a profound impact on his life.

Visitation will be held from Oromocto Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 12, from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A memorial service will be held from Oromocto Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 2:00 pm with The Rev. Dr. Perry Hanley officiating. Obituary:It is with heavy hearts that the family of Frederick ‘Fred’ Alexander Welch of Glassville, NB share that his death occurred on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville, NB. Fred was born on May 31, 1942 in Glassville and was the son of the late Lewis and Jessie (Elliot) Welch. He was also predeceased by his only brother Edwin in 2022.Fred graduated from Florenceville Regional High School in 1960 and after Teachers’ College, he returned to teach at Florenceville Regional High School. Several years later, he furthered his education and earned his BEd at UNB. Fred began teaching at Carleton North Senior High School when it opened in 1977, and he continued teaching Math and Agricultural Science there until his retirement in 1995 after 34 years in education.Fred had a passion for agriculture and headed to the family farm almost daily after a full day of teaching. Originally a small mixed dairy farm owned by his parents, Fred transitioned the operation from dairy to black angus beef, buying his first registered angus cattle in 1972. Working on the farm gave Fred immense pleasure and, in his later years, he was proud that his son shared his love of farming by continuing the family farm operation.Fred loved to snowmobile, go fishing, play a round of golf and curl competitively when he wasn’t farming. Fred also had a passion for community involvement, serving as councillor and later as mayor of the Village of Florenceville from 1974 - 1995. During this time, he also served on the Board of the Northern Carleton Hospital in Bath as director and its’ Chairman from 1977 - 1988.Fred proudly lived on the family farm until moving to the Central Carleton Nursing Home in Hartland a few weeks ago. She was also predeceased by her husband, Fred; 1 daughter, Shelly; 1 great grandson, Hunter and 1 sister, Lily.

With broken hearts and deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother Sadie Ellen Kathleen (Quinn) White July 25, 2023 from Summerfield, NB at the Riverview Manor in Bath, NB, surrounded by loved ones.
Mom was second born on July 26, 1935 in Kenneth, NB to the late Donald & Mary (Seymour) Quinn.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Garfield “Bud” White (June 11, 2010), sister Mary “Mamie” MacDonald, infant sister Lily, son-in-laws George Tweedie & David Taylor, great grandson Joshua White.
Mom is deeply missed by her 7 children, Cathy (Russ Byers) Tweedie Taylor, Joe (Glenda), John (Brenda), Debbie Thomas, Dawn Kenneson, Tim (Linda), Jason (Michelle), many beloved grand children, many precious great grand children and adored great great grand children, her brother Donald (Susan) Quinn, brother-in-law Don King, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.
She had such a big heart, full of strength, incredible kindness & love. She was welcoming to anyone who came to her door and always willing to help family or friends in their time of need.
She loved & was proud of her children, grand children, great & great great grand children and loved spending time with them.
She was a beautiful cook and baker, she was well known and favorites She was a second mom & gram to nieces, nephews, cousins and many community children through the years.
She was a hard worker from an early age, where she went to work in Centreville and met Dad, the love of her life and loving husband of 56 years.
She enjoyed going out to play bingo which she continued to do at the manor. She loved playing card of all kinds. She never missed an episode of the Price Is Right with Bob Barker. Her favorite singer was Charlie Pride and she was listing to him when she passed. She loved camping, hunting & fishing on the Tobique.
She cherished her collection of pigs and nothing was better than her Montreal Canadiens. She loved watching the hummingbirds at her feeders in her later years.
Her loss is great and is felt near & far away. We as family take great comfort in knowing she is reunited with Dad and other loved ones.
Her family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Riverview Manor for their loving care, compassion and companionship during her time there.

The death of Wayne "Buck" Clarence Quinn of Wicklow occurred on Monday, January 30th, 2023 at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville NB surrounded by his family. Buck was born on February 11th, 1947 in Glassville and was the son of the late Alexander "Sandy" and Gertrude (Anderson) Quinn. He was also predeceased by his step son, Christopher Whitehouse; 8 sisters, Olive, Jennie, Nellie, Ernestine, Jeannie, Marion, Darlene "Bunny" and Kaye; 4 brothers, John, Lloyd, Peter and Larry "Dick".
He dedicated 36 years of his life to McCain Foods which involved planning parties, plowing and yard maintenance. He had a passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs, loved to play cards and was always up for a hunting trip to the camp. Near and dear to his heart was his chihuahua, Princess. Special thank you to everyone who cared for Buck during his illness.

Her journey on earth was one of dedication, achievement and love, not only for her beloved family but also for her many friends, neighbors and the many students she dedicated herself to teach over many years. Muriel Jean Benner passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born in Glassville, NB on September 29, 1934, the daughter of the late Frank and Waunita (Brooks) Quinn.

A much-loved and respected school teacher for many years, she will be fondly remembered for her distinguished career as a teacher committed to the development of her students. She graduated from Centreville High School and taught for 25 plus years in the Centreville, Bristol and surrounding area schools. Upon the passing of her beloved husband, William "Bill" Benner, and in retirement, Jean moved to Fredericton to be near her family.

Jean thoroughly enjoyed her involvement and fellowship at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, Fredericton, especially the Tuesday morning Coffee Club. She was a member of St. James A.C.W. in Centreville and also a Sunday School Teacher. Her dedication to youth came full circle as one of the founders of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in the Centreville area. She was an active School Volunteer and a member of the River Valley Swingers Square Dance Club.

Left behind to cherish her memory are sons, Kirk Benner and Dwight Benner (Nathalie) both of Fredericton. Jean was a treasured Grammie to Nathan, Braden and Ryan Benner all of Fredericton. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mary Wash of Kingston, ON as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Aside from her parents and husband Bill, an infant son predeceased her.

The family will receive condolences at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A service celebrating Jean’s life will be held at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church, 775 Forest Hill Road, Fredericton on Thursday March 21, 2019 at 2 PM with The Rev’d Rob Langmaid officiating. Nellie A Brooks, born April 4,1922, of Hillsborough, NB, and formerly of Glassville, NB, passed away January 4, 2003, at the Moncton City Hospital following a four month illness.

The wife of the late George E. Brooks and daughter of the late Edward and Lily White of Divide, NB, she had been residing in Hillsborough, NB, near her family since October, 1993.

In addition to her many friends and acquaintances, she is survived by six children (and their spouses): Helen (Perry) Mador, Calgary, AB; Earnest (Anne) Brooks, Bathurst, NB; Sheila (George) Forsythe, Hillsborough, NB; Melvin (Linda) Brooks, Carleton Place, ON; Wavel (Carla) Brooks, Moncton, NB; Wuanita Brooks, Calgary,AB, twelve grandchildren and threegreat-grandchildren.

She is also survived by four sisters, Edna, Georgina, Isabel and Avis, and three brothers, Henry, Clarence, and John. She was predeceased by her husband, George; infant daughters, Nora, Nancy and Cheryl; brothers, Austin, Fred, Sandy, Donald, Edward, Alton; and sisters, Elsie, Shirley and Anna.

The body rested at Kilcollins Funeral Home in Bath and funeral service was held January 8 at Glassville United Church with Rev. Robert McCarthy officiating and assisted by Rev. Kenny Stoddard, who did the eulogy.

Her granddaughter, Amanda Forsythe, sang Amazing Grace and Rev. Eric Smith sang In the Garden and Lord, I'm Coming Home. Pallbearers were six of her grandsons; Frank, Michael and Darren Forsythe, Robert Brooks, Justin and Shane Brooks and great-nephew Tovy Clendenning.

Other grandchildren are Tammy and Shawn Mador, Melinda Brooks and Robin and Katie Brooks. Many floral tributes and memorials were received. Internment will take place in Glassville United Church cemetery in the spring.

Judson Malcolm Corey, loving husband of the late Margaret (Stevens) Corey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing. Born in East Knowlesville, NB on April 16, 1923 he was the son of the late Ira and Nellie (Brown) Corey.

In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his first wife Marion (Rideout) Corey; brothers Wilfred, Robert, Thomas, Claude, Murray, Norman, Warren, Keith and Gordon; sisters Erma Shaw, Alice MacKenzie and Kathleen Foster.

Judson was a veteran of WWII serving as a private. He worked as a Baptist Minister for over 25 years, then went back to school and became a Social Worker, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Veterans against nuclear arms, Toastmasters International, Council of Canadians and Instruments of Peace.

He is survived by his sons Fred Corey (Sandra) of Second Eel Lake, NB and Christopher Corey (Suphaphon) of St. Stephen, NB; daughter Carolyn Campbell of Liverpool, NS; sister Shirley Brooks of Florenceville; grandchildren Andrea, Charles, Bryan, Lisa and Kevin; great grandchildren Kate and Ethan; many nieces and nephews.

Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, (646-2424) with visitations on Wednesday August 15 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A tribute to a Veteran service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, August 16 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The death of Anna Kathleen “Kaye” Foster occurred on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Upper River Valley Hospital. Born September 4, 1930, in Knowlesville, NB, Kaye was the daughter of the late Ira and Nellie (Brown) Corey. In addition to her parents, Kaye was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul Foster; their infant daughter, Melanie; and eleven siblings, Erma, Murray, Wilfred, Robert, Alice, Norman, Tom, Claude, Warren, Keith, and Gordon.

Kaye is survived by her three sons, Geoffrey, Kris (Wanda), and Stuart (Trish); five grandchildren, Erin Blaney (Corey), Meredith Graham (Nathaniel), Kate, Cameron (Andrea), and Elizabeth; and two great-grandsons, Kian and Quin Blaney. Kaye is also survived by her brother, Rev. Judson Corey, and sister, Shirley Brooks (Rev. Paul), as well as numerous nieces, nephew, and extended family.

Kaye was born and raised in Knowlesville until the family moved to Juniper in 1945, when Kaye was fifteen. She graduated from Juniper Superior School in 1948 and taught a term at Biggar Ridge School in order to earn money to attend Normal School. Kaye graduated with a teaching degree in 1950 and immediately began teaching at the Juniper School. Kaye loved to reminisce about her adventures teaching grades 1-8 in a one-room school house and was always quick to remind us that she never had to resort to using the strap in her classroom.

Kaye and Paul married in August 1951 and made their home on Pine Street for over sixty years. As Paul established his business, Kaye focused on the task of raising three rambunctious boys. In 1965, once the youngest of the boys entered school, Kaye began crossing the yard every day to work in the office with Paul, where she worked until she retired in 1995.

Kaye was a devoted member of the United Church and was active in the choir and UCW for decades. As well, Kaye was a long-time member of the Eastern Star. As a couple, Paul and Kaye loved to travel and were happiest when entertaining family and friends for potluck dinners, bridge games, or other activities.

Paul and Kaye loved to spend time at their camp on Miramichi Lake and did an equal amount of entertaining while there. As well, they enjoyed spending time in Florida each winter. In both locations, Kaye was most likely to be spotted in the water, as she loved to swim. All of Kaye’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren have wonderful memories of time at the lake.

Visitation will be held from Faith Memorial United Church, 175 Burnham Road, Florenceville-Bristol, on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 2:00 pm from the church, followed by a reception in the Foster Fellowship Hall. Rev. Susan Estabrooks will officiate. Interment will be in the United Church Community Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank Dr. Clay Marco and Dr. Bruce Lockhart for their compassionate care of Kaye during her time in the hospital. As well, we would like to thank the caregivers who provided Kaye with professional yet loving care during her extended stay in the hospital.

Alice E. Brown

It is with sadness that the family of Alice Brown announce her passing. Alice passed away April 10, 2021 at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville. She was born April 5, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Horace (Gib) and Phoebe Brown. She was predeceased by her brothers Donald Brown of Bristol, New Brunswick and Winston Leavitt of Kingston, Ontario.

Alice is survived by her nieces and nephews and their families.

Alice spent her career at McCain Foods and after retirement had the busiest social calendar of anyone in the Village of Bristol. She loved her friends and family unconditionally.

Alice's family are very thankful for the wonderful care provided to her by Kim Brown over the past number of months. Kim's love and care made Alice's days much brighter. The care and attention provided by the Teams at Extra Mural and Integrity Homecare was also very much appreciated.

The death of J. Bonar Brown, of Glassville, occurred on February 21, 2011 at River View Manor, Bath. Born on October 12, 1930, he was the son of the late John Malcolm and Lillian (MacDougall) Brown and husband to Marilyn (Flemming) Brown.

Bonar loved the outdoors, farming and dogs. He drove school bus for 25 plus years, was a member of the Northern Carleton Hospital Board and a sales rep. for Carleton Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Bonar lived a well balanced life between family, faith and community. He loved his family dearly.

Bonar is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; Children, Allison Brown (Jennifer), Sharon Charlton (Harry), John Brown (Nancy), Jay Brown (Randi), Kevin Brown (Gayle), Fred Brown (Lisa) and Kendall Brown; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and one grandson, Kyle.
