    Following a lengthy illness, Oral Leon Broad of Perth-Andover, NB, passed away peacefully at Hotel Dieu St. Joseph Hospital on August 22, 2019.

    Oral was born in Holmesville, NB, on December 2, 1935. He was the son of the late Leigh and Bernice (DeMerchant) Broad. Oral leaves behind his children, Denise Joy Higgins (Mike) of Caroline, AB, Dana Broad of Beechwood, NB; his granddaughter, Amelia Higgins of Caroline, AB; the mother of his children, Cynthia Broad (Perry) of Beechwood, NB; his sister, Verdaline Ruff of Flint, Michigan; his brothers, Kevin Broad (Dolores) of Bristol, NB, Keith Broad (Betty) of Centerville, NB; along with several nieces and nephews.

    Oral was predeceased by his parents; and his longtime companion, Joan Smith (2013).

    A graveside service was held at the Holmesville Free Will Baptist Cemetery on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 1 pm. Father Stephen Harnish officiated.

    Oral's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff of Hotel Dieu Hospital for the excellent care given to Oral during his ten month stay.

    December 22, 2022 our husband, father, brother and grand father of Centerville NB passed away with peace surrounded by his family at Riverview Manor in Bath NB.

    Born in Holmesville, Bath NB November 14, 1942 to the late Bernice (Demerchant) and Leigh Broad.

    Keith was predeceased by brother Oral Broad of Perth NB, sister Verterline (Broad) Ruff, brother-in-law Carl Ruff of Michigan.

    Keith is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Jane (Taylor) Broad, sons Tracey Broad, Stacey Broad, daughter Jill Harding (Chesley) all of them from Centerville area, his four-legged companion Penny, brother Kevin Broad (Delores) Bristol NB, grand children Tara Glenn (Sam), Sara Demerchant (Travis), great grandchildren Danica, Emmerson, Diamond, Elana.

    Keith was a self-employed heavy equipment owner operator for 50 years. His love and passion in his spare time was his modified pulling tractor, The Famous Dodge.

    Keith was kind, gentle, compassionate, very wise, quiet, giving, supportive always there to lend a helping hand. Keith was known for his smile and twinkle in his eye.

    Our family would like to give special thanks to doctors and staff at the Upper River Valley Hospital 2nd floor and first the ER . Special big thanks to Riverview Manor Bath NB for the gentle touch and excellent care of Keith and to Dr Bruce Lockhart of Bath NB.     It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin R. Broad on January 18, 2024. Kevin was born April 26, 1938 in Holmesville to the late Leigh and Bernice (DeMerchant) Broad. He was predeceased by his brothers Oral and Keith Broad; sister Verdaline Ruff; brother-in-law Carl Ruff; and son-in-law Scot Birnie.
    Kevin is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Delores (Watson). He was a loving father to his daughters Karen Birnie and Karla Deweyert (Ted); dearly loved by his grandchildren John, David, Claire and Anne (Ryan); and lovingly remembered by several nieces, nephews and extended
    family.

    Kevin made a career in the lumber industry when he married and moved to Juniper in 1960. His near 40 years of service garnered him respect as a manager, always leading by example. He enjoyed time spent in nature in every season. Fly fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, canoeing, camping, and backpacking were among his favorite pastimes. He especially enjoyed tailgate picnics with his girls. Kevin cherished close friendships, of which he had many. His quiet reflective manner and warm smile were a source of comfort and strength to his family. He will be missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to be in his life.

    Visitation will be held at L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 1:00-3:00pm. A funeral service will follow at 3:00pm in the L.R. Giberson Chapel. Rev.     Joyce Verdilene Ruff, 90, of Lapeer, formerly of New Brunswick, Canada, died August 14, 2021. She was born March 25, 1931 in Holmesville, New Brunswick, Canada to parents Leigh and Bernice (Dermerchent) Broad. Joyce married Carl R. Ruff on October 29, 1949 in Canada and they spent a beautiful 71 years together.

    Mrs. Ruff worked for Goodrich Schools as a custodian for many years. She actually enjoyed many domestic tasks; from general cleaning to folding or ironing laundry, Joyce liked it. But she was known for her talented baking and canning. In her day, Mrs. & Mr. Ruff loved to dance and be on bowling leagues. She was a fan of country music. Above all else, Joyce loved spending time with family; especially the great-grandchildren brought her so much joy.

    Mrs. Ruff is survived by her children: Sue (Larry) Minkler of Lapeer and Richard (Dena) Ruff of Sawyer, MI; grandchildren: Neill (Brooke) Ruff, Mellissa (Chris) Atwood, Angela Choate, Monica Kinnie and Renee (JD) Cote; great-grandchildren: Samantha, Alexis, Hailey, Alexzander, Hope, Addison, Hazel, Josiah and Declan as well as brothers: Kevin (Delores) Broad, Keith (Betty) Broad and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Carl, son: Neill Ruff, brothers: Oral Broad and her aforementioned parents.

    Cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Her memorial service will be held September 18th at 11:00AM at New Beginnings Family Church, 1066 N. Saginaw St., Lapeer, MI 48446. Pastor Keith Atwood will officiate the service.

    It is with sadness that we announce the death of Patricia "Patty" Bernice DeMerchant of Bristol which occurred on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville. Patty was born August 28, 1947 in Holmesville and was the daughter of the late Howard and Melissa (Broad) DeMerchant. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Ronald DeMerchant, Carol Crain (Earl) and Wilma McCullough; 2 brothers in law, Elwin Kinney and Lester Wallace; 1 sister in law, Doreen DeMerchant.

    Patty had been employed for 30 years at McCain Foods at the time of her retirement.

    She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Charles; 1 daughter, Tonya Anderson (Charles); her grandson and the love of her life, CJ Anderson; 7 siblings, Rose Oakes (Graydon), Martha Kinney, Lewis DeMerchant, Joyce Wallace, Herb DeMerchant, Murray DeMerchant (Donna) and Myrtle Boyd (Joe); 1 brother in law, Leo McCullough; special niece, Kimberly Brooks; her feline companion, Danny-Girl as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.

    Obituary:

    At the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, on August 4, 2008, Mrs. Wilma McCullough of Holmesville, passed away at the age of 57. Wilma was the daughter of the late Howard and Melissa (Broad) DeMerchant.

    Wilma is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Leo McCullough, her children, Troy (Shelly), Donnie (Sylvia) and Gerri (Matthew) Broad, her special grandchildren, Jacob, Shelby, Allie, Gracie Mae, Kyle, Craig and Clay; brothers and sisters, Rose (Graydon), Joyce (Lister), Martha (Elwin), Herb, Lewis (Doreen), Murray (Donna), Myrtle (Joe) and Patsy (Charlie).

    Predeceased by her parents, granddaughter, Katie, sister, Carol Crain and brother Ronald DeMerchant.

    Resting at Kilcollins Funeral Home, Bath, on Thursday, August 7, 2008, from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00pm from the Holmesville Free Will Baptist Church, Rev. Rick Murray to officiate. Interment will be in the Mineral Cemetery.

    Pallbearers will be Mahlon DeMerchant, Wavel Kinney, Douglas Oakes, Ann Cummings, Kim Brooks and Lori Ann Canam.

    Obituary:

    The death of Murray Garrol DeMerchant formerly of Holmesville occurred at Riverview Manor in Bath on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the age of 82 years. Murray was born June 17, 1941 in Piercemont. He was predeceased by his parents Howard and Melissa (Broad) DeMerchant, and 1 great grandson Parker. Five siblings, Rose Oakes, Ronald DeMerchant, Carol Crain, Patsy DeMerchant, and Wilma McCullough.

    Murray is survived by his loving wife Donna of 59 years. He leaves behind four children: Scarlett Davenport (Dwaine), Bobby DeMerchant (Lisa), Jody DeMerchant and Heidi DeMerchant (James). Ten grandchildren: Joshua, Joel, Jordan, Dustin, Danielle, Janae, Tristen, Sawyer, Riley and Silas. Seven great-grandchildren: Liam, Ben, Amira, Viola, Beau, Justice and Kash. Two brothers: Lewis DeMerchant, Herb DeMerchant, three sisters: Martha Kinney, Joyce Wallace, Myrtle Boyd. As well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.

    The family would like to thank the Hotel Dieu of St. Joseph’s hospital and the River View Manor for the care given to Murray during his stay.

    Respecting Murray’s wishes there will be no formal services.

    A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

    Memorial donations can be made to Holmesville Free Will Baptist Church and the Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick would be appreciated.

    The death of Douglas “Doug” Wayne Oakes of Holmesville occurred on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at his home. Born January 2, 1947 in Bath he was the son of Graydon and Rose (DeMerchant) Oakes and husband of Mary (Cullins) Oakes.

    Doug is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary; parents, Graydon and Rose Oakes; three children, Lorelei Ritchie (Eric), Todd Oakes and Amy Oakes (Bradley Moore); six grandchildren, Cole, Drew and Kate Ritchie, Jared, Veronica and Corrine Moore; siblings, Samuel Oakes (Marion), Sandra Oakes, Joanne Guest (Fred), Billy Oakes (Laurie) and Jeff Oakes (Robyn) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was predeceased by one brother, Ellery Oakes.

    Visitation will be held from the Holmesville Free Will Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 14th, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 15th, 2010 at 1:00 pm from the Holmesville Church with Rev. Rick Murray officiating. Interment will be in the Mineral Cemetery.
