- Obituary:
Dennis Dale “Hud” Oakes of Beechwood passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville. He was born March 27, 1947 and was the son of the late Dennis and Dorothy Oakes. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Frank McDougall.
Dale is survived by his children, Christopher Oakes (Keisha Oakes), Cory Oakes, Craig Oakes, Mikayla Steeves (Jeffrey Symes); grandchildren, Cameron Oakes, Jovie Oakes, Tobias Oakes, Hunter Oakes (Katelyn Tompkins), Isaiah Oakes (Callie Skinner, Rankin Oakes (Mariah Walker), Abagail Oakes, Dexter DeMerchant, Grace Symes; great grandson, Maverick Oakes; sisters, Marion McDougall, Cynthia McGuigan (Earl), Beverly Billings (Ross); several nieces and nephews.
Dale loved hockey, especially the Montreal Canadiens, and the Toronto Blue Jays were his favorite baseball team. He also had a love for Bingo, Pull Tabs, old country music and often attended dances. He was the life of the party. For several years he pitched on a softball team and in 2003 he coached a woman’s softball team, the Beechwood Dammers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Road, Florenceville-Bristol from noon to 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. from the L. R. Giberson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Carl DeMerchant officiating. The interment will be in the Wharton Cemetery in Upper Kent. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bath Lions Medical Fund.
