- Obituary:
Dean A. Prior
1945-2025
The death of Dean Albert Prior of Williamstown, NB, occurred on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the age of 79, at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, NB. Dean was born on November 24, 1945, in Bath, NB, and was the son of the late Lee and Charlene (Davenport) Prior. He was also predeceased by an infant son, Gregory Prior; a brother-in-law, Glendon Clark; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Prior.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth (Mangum); three children, Jennifer Heath, Jeffrey Prior, and Robert Brown (Nancy); several grandchildren; siblings, Diane Clark, Carroll Prior (Micheline), Leonard Prior, Joanne Upton (Charlie), Stephen Prior (Brenda), and Stephanie Prior (Tom); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him very much.
Dean spent most of his career (28 years) working as a tool and die maker at Thomas Equipment in Centreville, NB. While that was his professional trade, it extended into his home life, where he could engineer and build almost anything. Dean often built things for family members and loved doing things for others, especially those he cared about. He took great pride in building and creating things for his and Ruth’s home, usually making something new out of something old. Some of his creations included a pea thresher, a lawn sprayer he used with his four-wheeler, a fish pond, and a gazebo, just to name a few. The family tractor—a 30 Massey—was very near and dear to him. Handed down by his parents, he knew it like “the back of his hand” and used it for everything.
Dean loved the outdoors and spent many hours outside hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. He also spent several years assisting with maple syrup production. His favorite hobbies were tending his garden faithfully and caring for the birds, always making sure they were well fed by the feeders in his and Ruth’s yard.
Dean loved to laugh. He had a dry sense of humour but was witty, making those around him laugh. He found humour in everyday things—funny TV shows, the family cat (Garfield)—and often teased his wife, Ruth, just to make her laugh.
Family was very important to him. He often called to talk and catch up on the day’s events with his siblings, always participated in family gatherings, and maintained close relationships with many friends and extended family members.
