Notes - Obituary:
Shirley G. DeMerchant
1945-2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Gertrude DeMerchant of Bath and formerly of Beechwood at the age of 80 at the Upper River Valley Hospital on August 7th, 2025. Born in Beechwood on March 24th, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Ellen (Kinney) Broad.
Shirley is survived by her 2 daughters, Laurie (Bill) Oakes and grandson Cameron, and Lisa (Lewis) Patterson and grandson Bo, and her brothers Berlin Broad and Claude (Betty) Broad. Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband Blake DeMerchant, brothers Raymond, Earl, Garnet, Spark, June, James, Donald, Fred, Philip and infant brothers Freddy and Gerald and her infant sister Ruthie.
Shirley will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She was a great cook, her chocolate cake and date squares being some of the most favourites. She also had a green thumb and took pride in caring for her flowers and plants. Those that visited were always offered something to eat or at least a sweet and cup of tea.
Mom, we will miss you deeply, but we only part to meet again.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11 am in the Mineral Cemetery. Rev. Toben Steeves will officiate. For those who wish, memorial donations made to the Mineral Cemetery would be appreciated. L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors are entrusted with the arrangements.
