Gordon M. Perkins
1920-2017
The death of Gordon Marcell Perkins occurred on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville. Born March 20, 1920 in Fielding he was the son of the late Marcell and Idella May (Elkins) Perkins. He was also predeceased his wife, Mary; step son, Donald Hills; siblings, Minnie Schriver (George), Gertrude Hills (Edward), Bessie Donovan (Eden), Ruth Kinney (Willard), Myrtle Gallop (Sam), Isaac Davenport (Rose), Basil Davenport (Marie), Hubert Perkins (Ellen), Ernest Perkins (Ethel) and Allen Perkins (Mable); 1 sister in law, Dorothy Perkins.
At the age of 14 Gordon left school and work on farms and woods work to help with family expenses. While working the woods during winter at the age of 14 he hauled 220 cords of hardwood with a team of horses from Mount Pleasant to Fielding. He was also employed by Clayton Clark doing woods work in the Tobique and Juniper. At the age of 26 he worked at Kilpatrick's Garage for about a year. In 1947 he went to work at the Bristol Wood Working Factory until his retirement at the age of 65 in 1986. After retiring Gordon enjoyed camping, carpentry and woodworking. He made beautiful Hope Chests, Gun Cabinets, Chests of Drawers and Cupboards.
Gordon is survived by his son, Dale Perkins (Lois); 3 grandchildren; 1 step granddaughter; 5 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 1 brother, Gerald Perkins as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A funeral service will be held at the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Joe Hopkins will officiate. There will be a time of fellowship follow the service.
