Lewis F. Lamont
Mapleton - Lewis F. Lamont, 86, passed away on May 7, 2024 peacefully at the Aroostook House of Comfort with his daughter, son in law and granddaughter by his side. His family was his greatest achievement, he loved listening to the antics of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lewis was born in Glassville, New Brunswick on March 15, 1938. The son of Kenneth and Marjorie (Brewer) Lamont. As a young boy his family moved to Bridgewater, Maine where they lived on a farm. Lewis was always a dedicated, hard worker and worked the farm with his father and brothers. At the age of 14 began working for neighboring potato farmers.
Lewis often reminisced telling stories of the Zayre days where he spent 31 years before retiring in 1989. Lewis loved being in management and worked his way up to become the store manager in Waterville, Presque Isle, and Madawaska. He always valued the lessons, experiences and friendships he had there. He was especially proud of events he was able to help with and put on in the community.
In 1969 Lewis joined the masonic order where he was a member for over 50 years. He was very proud of the award that he received for being a member for 50 years in 2019.
In 1972 he joined the Shriners where he sponsored a young lady for the Shiners Children's Hospital in Springfield, Mass for several years. Lewis was a proud member of the Shriners always wearing his Shriners ring, and happy to help the children of Aroostook County.
Lewis and his sons had a love of engines, mostly in dirt bikes and motorcycles. Lewis loved a good deal and would travel the County dickering for used bikes to buy, take apart, and sell for parts. Through Ebay and the help of his grandchildren he sold and shipped parts all over the world.
After retiring Lewis and his beloved wife Clara filled their days with family and lake adventures at Portage. They were also on the board of the brain injury association of Maine and spent many hours driving up and down the interstate to advocate for their son Dave, and the brain injured people of Maine. There is an award in their honor, the Lewis and Clara Lamont Brain Injury Advocacy Award. In 2010 the council presented an Advocacy Award to Lewis and Clara Lamont for their amazing work with the Brain Injury Association of America’s Maine Chapter as well as their strong advocacy for individuals impacted by brain injury. The award is presented every year in their name to someone who has positively influenced the brain injury community. It was an unfortunate event that lead them to being advocates, however being advocates was one of their most fulfilling achievements.
Lewis was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years Clara (Rideout) Lamont, Grandson Shawn Morin, mother and father Kenneth and Marjorie Lamont, sister Marilyn (Lamont) Michot, and Sister-in-law Sheila Lamont.
