      Dr. Clinton A. Hayward
      1925-2016

It is with sadness, accompanied by the gratification of a life well lived, that the family of Dr. Clinton A. Hayward announces his death at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on September 9, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Thelma, and his five children - Richard (Kora Connell), Dianne (Frank) Oulton, Peter (Patti Geldart), John (Cheryl Savage), and David (Shelly Oakes).

Clint was born in Hartland on June 21, 1925. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Anne Hatfield on May 23, 1999. They were married for 48 years. He was also predeceased by his parents, Amos and Annie (Birmingham) Hayward and brothers, Clarence and Franklin.

In 2004 Clint married Thelma Jimmo who gave him a new lease on life. They shared their love for gardening, travelling, church, family and each other. Clint proudly bragged that he had four sons and one daughter by his first marriage and four daughters, one son by his second marriage - Cindy (Bruce) Wood, Barbara (Edward) McIntyre, Kim (Harry) Malcolm, Cheryl (Gary) Patterson, and Sandy (Donna) Hitchman.

Clint is also survived by his sisters-in-law Betty Hayward, Ruth Duff, Marie (Perley) MacDonald, Betty (Douglas) Reade, Phyllis (George) Davidson, Mildred Savoy and brother-in-law, John Murray. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren - Andrew, Adam, Greg, Sarah, Kimberly, Jillian, Sean, Samantha, Matthew, Tuana, Tamika, Teona, Alisha, Lindsay, Candice, Alexander, Alicia, Bryana, Megan, Ryan, Ashley, Jessica, Clair, Chloe, and James; and his great grandchildren - Patrick, Jonathan, Jeremy, Haven, Bailey, Chase and Barrett.

Clint was a World War 2 veteran, having served with the RCAF Bomber Command in England. He disembarked from the Ile de France in Halifax on his 20th birthday after having signed up for service in the Pacific. In September, 1945, he enrolled at the University of New Brunswick, completing three years of undergraduate studies before graduating from Dalhousie University with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1952. He immediately began dentistry in Chatham.

Clint loved the beauty and bounty of the Miramichi River. It continually nourished his passion for fishing and hunting. It also provided him with a community of friends with whom he became actively involved through organizations like the Miramichi Golf and Country, Chatham Curling Club, Chatham Recreation Council, and St. Andrews United Church where he served as Elder and Clerk of Session. He also was very active in the New Brunswick Dental Society, having served as president from 1970 - 71. When he retired in 1992, he noted his greatest joy during his career was working every Thursday morning with youngsters who could not afford a dentist.

A member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3, he proudly honored the ultimate sacrifice of his fallen comrades by resolutely reading aloud their names on Remembrance Day. A Veterans’ Service was held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, conducted by members of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion.

Clint's family greatly appreciated the care he was given during the last stages of his life by the Extra-Mural and Miramichi Regional Hospital staff, Dr. Rambaran and Dr. Losier. They also are deeply grateful to June Dickson, Patti Brennan and Reverend Charlene Maguire MacKnight.

Visitation was at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Wednesday. Funeral service was held from St. Andrews United Church, Miramichi, on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 11 am, conducted by Reverend Charlene Maguire MacKnight. Music for the service was provided by Mr. Kenneth Simpson and St. Andrews Church Choir. The hymns were “In the Garden” and “In The Bulb There Is a Flower”. The choir anthem was “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and the recessional hymn was “God be With You Till We Meet Again”. The memory candle was lit by granddaughter, Ashley Hitchman and the scriptures were read by grandson, Adam Hayward. The eulogy was presented by son, Rick Hayward. Interment was in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery, Miramichi.

As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to the Extra-Mural Program Foundation, Riverside Cemetery Fund, St. Andrew’s United Church or charity of the donors’ choice.
