- Obituary:
Tammy L. McBrine
1962-2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tammy Lynn McBrine of East Glassville, on Saturday January 18, 2025, at the Upper River Valley Hospital at the age of 62. Tammy was born January 22, 1962, in Minto and was the daughter of the late Shirley Amos and Roland Lewis. She was also predeceased by her brother, Barry Lewis.
Tammy is survived by her loving husband of over 41 years, Stewart; Stepfather, Otto Amos, her brother, Brent Lewis; brother-in-law, Francis (Monica); four children, Matthew, Nicholas (Maureen), Megan Walton (Chris), Travis (Magen); 8 grandchildren, Michaella, Isabelle, Nolan, Josie, Ethan, Leo, Vivian, Evie; as well as several, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Fate and a fearless sense of adventure led her to her husband Stewart, and the place they would call home, East Glassville. For a city girl, and former Miss Chipman, she adapted to the challenges of living at the “end of the earth” and together they flourished. Whatever challenges arose they faced them head on. With the help of many friends, neighbours, and loved ones, they built a family, a successful business, and a wonderful life together.
In her working years, Tammy worked as a secretary for McBrine Logging LTD. When she wasn’t working there, she stayed busy being a mother to her four children. Tammy could often be found in the crowd of a basketball or hockey game where she likely won the 50/50. She was a true mother in every sense of the word. Her selfless devotion to her family knew no limits. Like all great mothers she wore many hats. Doctor, nurse, caretaker, chef, custodian, laundromat owner, chauffeur, guidance counselor, teacher, lawyer, judge, and jury. Tammy’s love knew no bounds. Her sense of motherly duty to instill values and direction into her children sometimes caused the odd disagreement. Luckily, she never gave into the easy way out and her children can’t thank her enough for her tremendous effort and unwavering support over the years.
Tammy loved being a Grammy and would light up when her grandchildren walked through the door for a visit. She always had lots of treats on hand to share with them. She enjoyed spending time entertaining at their camp in Juniper, canoeing in the summer, and snowmobiling in the winter. She even went on a few moose hunting expeditions from time to time. Traveling was also a joy of Tammy’s, particularly a shopping trip. Chances are that she already had a bag packed in case she got an invite to go.
Although Tammy’s illness began to limit her in her later years, she still enjoyed having loved ones visit, sharing a laugh and a witty comment or two. She kept her carefree demeanor and sense of humour with her until the very end. Tammy will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff at the URVH, who treated Tammy with kindness and compassion in her final months.
As per Tammy’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral arrangements. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Glassville United Cemetery, DunRoamin’, the MS Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
