Notes - Notes:
A short time after his birth in Florenceville, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada, Scott and his parents left to go to California. His younger brother, Willie was born in California, but after a couple of short years, his mother died, as did his little brother.
The two survivors, Samuel and Scott, returned to New Brunswick, where Samuel was soon married to his second wife, Jane McCain in October 1872. Three more children were born: Nancy, Ella May, and Thomas Allison Darkis. Then his step-mother died.
Samuel married a third time to Katherine Agusta McMullin in 1880. They had three daughters: Annie Agusta, Laura Jane, and Katherine Louisa Darkis.
