  Notes: A short time after the birth of his son Scott in 1868, Samuel and Louisa left to go to California. Their son Willie was born in California, but after a couple of short years, Louisa and Willie died. The two survivors, Samuel and Scott, returned to New Brunswick, where Samuel was soon married to his second wife, Jane McCain in October 1872. Three more children were born: Nancy, Ella May, and Thomas Allison Darkis. Then his step-mother died. Samuel married a third time to Katherine Agusta McMullin in 1880.
