- Obituary:
Our hearts are broken as we say goodbye to our hero, Wayne Rodney Dow, loving husband, dad, grampie and brother. On December 1, 2023, surrounded by his family, Wayne peacefully left our lives much too soon after a courageous battle with IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis).
Wayne was born in Bath, NB on October 14, 1959, youngest child of the late Charles and Iva Dow of Beckim Settlement. He was also predeceased by his brother Ray.
Wayne is survived by his high school sweetheart and love of his life of 43 years Merrietta (Piper), daughter Jennifer (Ryan) Callahan and son Brandon (Victoria) and two special grandchildren Lauren Callahan and Greyson Dow. He is also survived by his siblings Charlene (Craig) Dickinson, Judy (Harold) Lawrence, Merlin (Sharon) , Lynwood (Lisa) , sister in law Debbie (late Ray), brother in law Fred (Valerie) Piper, Aubrey (Kathy) Piper, Gladwyn (Sheila) Piper, sister in law Cheryl (late Gary) Piper, sister in law Joyce Petersen, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In his younger years Wayne loved to play basketball. He loved being outside and enjoyed metal detecting, fishing and partridge hunting. He loved to travel, especially near the water, and his special place was St Andrews. Wayne started his career at Atlantic Wholesalers until the branch closed. He then became office supervisor at DOT Woodstock and retired in 2020 after 32 years.
Wayne’s diagnosis of IPF came in February 2023 but by then he was in the later stages of this terrible disease. Our hope was to get to Toronto for lung transplant but his body could just not make the journey.
We would like to thank Dr. Stone of URV Hospital, Waterville for all his efforts and hard work, the RT’s, Tania Price from Extra Mural and the staff of the ICU, who cared for Wayne in his last days. Thank you Jenn Matthews. Your kindness and compassion will always be remembered.
Keeping with Wayne's wishes, cremation will take place. We will visit St Andrews again dear and some of those destinations we planned to see. We love you and miss you.
Visitation will be at the Carleton Funeral home on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 12PM to 1:45 PM, Service will directly follow in the Carleton Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne’s honor can be made to NB Lung or an organization of the donor’s choice.
Interment will be at the Bloomfield United Church Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill |Road, Jacksonville NB.
