    • Obituary:
      It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of John Richard Markey on Saturday December 23, 2023, at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville at the age of 78 following illness with Cancer and subsequent complications.
      Richard was born in in Woodstock, NB on March 27, 1945, to the late Edward and Helen (Corcoran) Markey. He grew up in Hartford, NB, attending school and working on family farms. Richard was married to Lynda Williams on July 6, 1968, until her passing earlier this year. He was a hard worker all his life, driving potato and oil trucks, and spent 25 years as a Town of Woodstock Public Works employee. He was a volunteer member of the Woodstock Fire Department for many years and a member of the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, he would work the potato harvest, do odd jobs for friends and neighbors, maintained cemeteries and prepared graves. In retirement Richard devoted his time to his family, helping with grandchildren and caring for his ailing spouse.
      Richard is survived by his sons Kevin (Ann) & Christopher (Brittany), grandchildren, Kaitlyn, John, Hilary, Emily, Bridgette, Addisyn & Skyler, Great Grand Children Aubrey, William, Lucas, Levi, Stevie, Blair, Avery, Navy & Sawyer, Sister Katherine Marie Perry, Brother Henry Markey (Marilyn Cox), Sister-in-law Sylvia McGuire as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
      Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife Lynda Faye (Williams) Markey, brothers Joseph (Lois) Markey, Gerald Markey & Donald Markey, brother-in-law Norman Perry, sister-in-law Louise McDougall, in laws William & Eileen Williams, sister-in-law Carol MacMullin, brother-in-law Brian (Teresa) Williams & brother-in-law George McGuire.
      Visitation will be held on January 2, 2024, at Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville NB from 4 until 9PM.
      Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2024, from St Gertrudes Catholic Church at 11:00AM, Interment at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
      Visitation will be held on January 2, 2024, at Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road, Jacksonville NB from 4 until 9PM.
      Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2024, from St Gertrudes Catholic Church at 11:00AM, Interment at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
      The family would like to thank the ER & CCU staff of Upper River Valley Hospital and also Extra Mural for their compassion and care of Richard.
