    • Obituary:
      It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Inez Empey (Scott). Marie passed away peacefully at Points West Living in Red Deer Alberta on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
      She was born in Four Falls, New Brunswick to Byron and Rachel Scott on September 15, 1933. Marie was predeceased by her husband Arnold Empey, first husband Samuel Oakes, daughter Joyce, grandson Marty, parents, and siblings - Stella Armstrong, Ralph Scott, Madeline Crossman, Alfred Scott, Carl Scott, Bill Scott. She is survived by her siblings Reta Harrison and Don Scott, her 8 children Ann, Peter (Charlene), Harold (Cathy), Marilyn (Rick), Sharon, Earl, Tom (June), Amy, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
      Marie loved the game of shuffleboard. She had a very competitive spirit. During her lifetime she received many awards including the Arizona State Finals Gold Medal for split singles in 2009 and a Gold medal winner for Team Alberta in 2013. Cribbage was another passion in which she was hard to beat. Marie was an amazing quilter and over the years made many quilts for family and friends.
      A celebration of Marie’s life will be held at Eventide Funeral Home, 4820 - 45 Street, Red Deer, AB T4N 1K5 on Saturday June 24, 2023 at 2:00 pm. A luncheon will follow in the same location.
      The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Points West Living in Red Deer Alberta for their care and compassion during Marie’s stay. They went above and beyond their call of duty.
      In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to two charities that Marie supported; Red Deer Hospice (reddeerhospice.com) and Stars Alberta (give.stars.ca) or to a charity of your choice.
