  Notes: Carrie was born on Nov 18, 1918 to Stephen and Carrie (Wilson) DeMerchant. The next day (19th) her mother died of the Spanish Flu. Her mother had probably contracted the deadly virus from returning Canadian soldiers from France during WW1. She was named after her mother. The family home was in modern day Beechwood and was known as the Widow Crain place (Francais Crain). Francais was a relative of Carrie's father Stephen. "It was here all his [Stephen] family was born and where his wife died with the flue, leaving an infant baby girl, Carrie (1918-1979). Mr and Mrs. Archie Clark took the baby and kept her until she was in her teens. She then went to live with her father again." Rev.
