- Obituary:
Doris Bernice Manuel of Knowlesville passed away at Northern Carleton Hospital on July 21, 2006, at the age of 80.She was born in Biggar Ridge, the sixth of the 12 children of Alexander and Gertie (Steeves) Hawkes.
She moved with her family to East Florenceville and later went to work in Knowlesville, where she met Gerald Manuel.They were married in 1943 and they farmed together until their health gave out.She was active in many areas
in the community, driving School Bus for a time and catering with the Knowlesville W.I.
Doris is sadly missed by her six sons, Eldon(Peggy),Sheldon
(Juanita)of Knowlesville, Dale(Judy) of Coldstream, Dwayne,Stephen(Debbie) of Knowlesville and Stewart (Natalie) of Glassville; one daughter, Catherine (Yvon)Beaulieu of Florenceville; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters Mabel Hawkes of Moncton, Lillian(Rodney) Rogers of British Columbia and Viola (Merril) Milton of Hopewell Cape and brother Lawrence (Donna) Hawkes of B.C.; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Gerald; her parents; sisters Alice, Cora Hawkes, Clara Harrington, Edna Milheron and Gertie Hawkes; and brothers Cecil and Roy Hawkes.
The funeral service was held at the Knowlesville Baptist Church on July 23, and she was laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Forest Hill Cemetery in Esdraelon. Pastor Murray Whitehouse officiated. The eulogy was written by daughter Catherine and read by granddaughter Nicole Smith. Vera Doherty sang Sereneded by Angels and Murray and Vera sang Take My Hand. The congregation sang Amazing Grace and the pianist was Lois Whitehouse.
Pallbearers were grandsons Trent Manuel, Todd Manuel, Ryan Manuel, Kevin Sarchfield, Jamie Smith, Roland Roy and Nathan Bubar.
