    • JOHN D.HOOD
Sgt. John D. Hood, born in 1871, had been a resident of GlassviUe for
over 30 years when he died in Fisher Memorial Hospital, Woodstock, in 1943.
Jack, as he was usually known, joined the 104th Regiment in 1916 and
went overseas, serving in France, later transferring to the Forestry Corps. When
peace came, he was with the first Army of Occupation entering Germany. After
the war, he returned to GlassviUe, where he carried on a blacksmith business.
He was active in community affairs and in the United Church, where he
was a member of the choir. He was a Justice of the Peace and registrar of
Births, Marriages and Deaths. Often called upon to act as local veterinarian, he
developed skills in treating sick animals. In another avocation, Jack was the
"caller" for dances at the GlassviUe Dance Hall.
Jack married Allie Sewell. They had two daughters: Martha, who went to
the USA, and Edna, born in 1911, who went to B.C. with her mother. He had a
      half-sister, Mrs W. J. Glen, of Fredericton.
