    • Obituary:

Perham - Wendell Estey Blackstone, 92, of Perham, Maine, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on February 7, 2017, in Caribou, Maine at the Maine Veterans' Home. Wendell was born in Caribou on August 25, 1924, to Carroll and Glenna (Estey) Blackstone. He served in the US Army during World War II and was a medic in Occupied Italy. Returning home after the war, he joined his father, Carroll and uncle, Read Blackstone, on the family dairy and potato farm, Blackstone Brothers. Later, he and his cousin, Clayton Blackstone, Sr., operated the farm where he labored with Clayton and eventually his son, Jay and nephew, Gary Blackstone, for more than 60 years. The Blackstone Homestead was a special place for Wendell. He was a faithful, long-time member of the Perham Baptist Church where he served the Lord in many capacities including president, deacon, and Sunday School teacher. In Perham town government, he was on the Board of Selectmen for many years and represented Perham on the School Board before there was a school district. Friends and neighbors in Perham will well remember that Wendell might have been the first one to welcome them to town and to visit them through the years. He enjoyed stopping in to visit his new friends and neighbors; it was important to him and showed the care and concern he had for others. Wendell was an avid fisherman and hunter. Some of his most enjoyable moments were spent on Beaver Brook and fishing at the Dead Water. However, the joy of serving his God, family, and friends was the most important. He was married to the love of his life, Phyllis, for almost 68 years. His five children, Sylvia, Barry, Lori, Jay and Michael, were so loved and are able to say, "(His) children arise up, and call (him) blessed." Prov. 31:28. Wendell is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis (Barton) Blackstone; two daughters, Sylvia Fox and her husband, Larry of Presque Isle and Lori Bouchard and her husband, Darrell of Washburn; three sons, Rev. Barry Blackstone and his wife, Coleen of Ellsworth, Jay Blackstone and his wife, Tamisue of Presque Isle, and Michael Blackstone and his wife, Julie of Downingtown, PA. He has nine, much loved grandchildren: Brad Fox and his wife, Sue, Elliot Fox and his girlfriend, Kristen, Scott Blackstone, Marnie Blackstone Legaspi and her husband, Josué, Krysten and Brennan Blackstone, Justen Blackstone and his wife, Olivia, Alyssa and Michaela Blackstone, and precious great-grandchildren, Brynna and Connor Fox, and Judah Legaspi. He was predeceased by his father, Carroll; mother, Glenna; and brother, Paul Blackstone. Calling hours will be held at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street in Presque Isle on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. with the funeral to be held at the Perham Baptist Church on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 3 p.m. with Reverends Barry Blackstone and David Goupille officiating. Donations may be made in his memory to the Perham Baptist Church in care of Robert Solomita, Treasurer, 1060 East Presque Isle Road, Caribou, Maine 04736. Spring interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Perham.
