- Obituary:
Stephen Roy Linder
May 4, 1961 - February 18, 2025
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephen Roy Linder, on February 18, 2025, at the Upper River Valley Hospital, at the age of 63. Stephen was born in Woodstock, NB, on May 4, 1961 to the late Stanley and Pauline (Hickey) Linder. He is predeceased by his sister Carol Ann King (Linder), and brothers, Larry David Linder and Michael Ray Linder. He is survived by brothers Brian Hickey (Dorothy) of Toronto, ON, Douglas Linder (Margaret) of Woodstock, NB, Thomas Linder (Tracey) of Edmonton, AB, James Linder of Toronto, ON, Robert Linder (Sue) of Ottawa, ON, Peter Linder (Amber) of Woodstock, NB, and Charles Linder of Montague, PEI, as well as his youngest sibling and sister, Violet Linder of Fredericton, NB. He will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Stephen, often referred to as the Gentle Giant due to his large stature, will forever be remembered for his devotion to the Woodstock Baptist Church, his community, and his family. Stephen could often be found taking long walks to enjoy the fresh air, writing about his day and thoughts, or watching his favourite shows. He enjoyed drama shows, and often chuckled about the reality tv he watched. He also enjoyed a good game of cards such as crazy eights or rummy. Like most of us, Stephen loved his sweets. Even though he had to watch his sugars, you could often find him sipping on his classic orange soda pop that he adored or munching on some of his favourite simple treats like pizza, kraft dinner, bologna, and homemade bread or rolls. Stephen was also a big fan of wrestling. He once dyed his hair black and announced that he was going to be the 'Great Goomba.' From that time on, you could often hear close friends and family members calling him by the nickname ‘Goomba’ which he carries to this day. Though Stephen was a quiet man of few words, wherever he went, he made connections, and tried to show his smile and warm side. He lived his life the best he knew how, and will be dearly missed. While our hearts mourn the loss of our loved one taken too soon, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. May he find peace within God’s hands.
With respect to the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Stephen’s remains will be cremated and a service will be held in the Spring/Summer of 2025 at the Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock, NB.
Embracing Eternity
Author Unknown
Let us gather, hearts entwined,
To celebrate a life, so suddenly confined,
Our dear one, a soul so bright,
A testament to love, and life's sweet flight.
We'll share our memories, laugh and cry,
Recount the moments, days gone by,
Their spirit lingers, a gentle breeze,
Embracing eternity, forever at ease.
With joy and sorrow, we'll raise our voice,
In honor of the life, that was their choice,
Our dear one, a love so true,
A celebration of life, in skies so blue.
