R. Reid Boyle
1917-2012
The death of Robert (Reid) Boyle occurred on September 19,2012 at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Perth-Andover, NB. Born on September 12, 1917 in Glassville, NB Reid was the only child of the late Robert James and Elizabeth Ann (McFarland) Boyle. Reid was the husband of Barbara Mae (Drost) Boyle for 65 years.
Reid lived in Glassville at the homestead for 54 years, Florenceville for 7 years, Bath for 8 years and Perth for 26 years.
Reid worked on the homestead farm in Glassville, lumber camps, Dept. of Highways, and McCain Foods Ltd until he retired 1982. He also had a Chain Saw & Small Engine Repair shop in Glassville.
Reid was an excellent ball player and liked to give the local boys a few tips on how to play.
After his family, his greatest love was for music. Reid played guitar, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. He sang and yodeled at the local dances and house parties.
Reid was a very kind and gentle soul; he had a loving and generous heart and great respect for others.
He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Reid is survived by his wife, Barbara; six children; Margaret Frenette of Jacksonville, NB; Marion (Sam) Oakes of Holmesville, NB; Dale (Marion) of Plaster Rock, NB; Robert (Margaret) of Pugwash, NS; Cheryl (Neal) Hebig of Millet, Alberta and Stephen (Brenda) of Glassville, NB. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Reid was predeceased by his parents as well as several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol, on Friday, Septmeber 21, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held from the L.R. Giberson Chapel on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Oral McAffee officiating. Interment will be in the Glassville United Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
