Knowlesville, Aug. 23 - Last Sunday morn. about 8 o'clock death relieved Mrs. Joseph WHITEHOUSE from her sufferings, she having been ill for some time. The funeral took place Tuesday being conducted by Rev. G. Swim. Rev. A.H. Hayward and S. Young assisted in the service. Mrs. Whitehouse was born in Barrington, N.S. in October 1819. After her marriage she lived for several years in Argyle, N.S. In the spring of 1861 she removed to this place, being the first woman to come to Knowlesville when there was not any cleared land. The road was only a lumber road in the fall of 1862. The F.C.B. Church was organized by Rev. S. Hartt and S.C. Doucett. She became one of the charter members. Her brother, James KENNEY reached here on Friday and stayed until after the funeral, leaving for home on Thursday. Deceased was the mother of twelve children of whom six are still living. She leaves a husband, age 82 years and a brother and sister, 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
