REELEDER, GEORGE DELMAR “DEL”
The passing of George Delmar “Del” Reeleder of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Audrey (MacBean) Reeleder occurred on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Veteran’s Health Unit. Born on November 13, 1921 in West Glassville, NB, he was the son of the late George and Sara (Delong) Reeleder. Del was a Veteran of WWII with the R.C.A.F. Afterwards he enrolled in the Civil Engineering program at UNB. It was in Fredericton he met and married Audrey MacBean. Del worked as an engineer with the NB Department of Transportation and eventually became Deputy Minister, retiring in 1982. Post-retirement, Del served as Chair of the Fredericton Solid Waste Commission, the Fredericton Area Pollution Control Commission, and was a member (1986-1992) of the Board of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Del and Audrey travelled extensively and enjoyed many days at ‘the camp’ on Maquapit Lake with family and friends.
He was a Life Member of the NB Association of Engineering, Life Member of Roads and Transportation of Canada Association, Member of the Fredericton Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Past President of the Nashwaaksis Y’s Men’s Club and a Member of the Nashwaaksis United Church. Del was a member of the Fredericton Curling Club and Gilridge Golf Club.
Del is survived by his daughter, Mary Lou Reeleder (Mark Suits) of Edmonton, AB, sons, Richard Reeleder (Linda Speizer) of Burton, NB and David Pond (Marilyn) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Geoffrey Pond, Jonathan Pond, Zachary Suits, Liam Suits and Sarah Reeleder; great grandchildren, Harrison, Charlotte and Anderson Pond; sisters, Wilnora Gagnon of Nackawic, NB and Betty Oakes of Florenceville, NB; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sons, Carl and Eric Reeleder; sisters, Glenna Reeleder, Bernice Jones and Margaret Daye; brothers, Aubrey, Adrian, Floyd, Clarence, Ronald, Lewis and Lorne.
There will be a Memorial Service at Nashwaaksis United Church on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 2 pm with Rev. Kay Clowater officiating. Interment will take place in Woodstock Rural Cemetery, Houlton Road, NB at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the donor’s choice.
