    • OBITUARY:

      FORT FAIRFIELD - Helen A. Dougherty, 93, wife of the late Cecil Dougherty, passed away Friday morning, April 1, 2011, at a Presque Isle health care facility, after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Upper Kent, New Brunswick, the daughter of Thomas and Maude (Smith) Canam.

      She attended Upper Kent schools and after moving to Fort Fairfield, married Cecil Dougherty, Jan. 6, 1934. Helen had been a member of Fort Fairfield Bethel Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed knitting and painting, and had been employed by Potato Service, Presque Isle, for several years.

      In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, Cecil, Dec. 27, 1976; two daughters, Linda Dougherty and Judy McKinnon; three brothers, Wavel, Wilbur and Ervin Canam; and one sister, Mabel Taylor. She is survived by four sons, Glenwood, Milton and Clayton Dougherty, all of Fort Fairfield, and Graydon Dougherty and his wife, Shirley, of Castle Hill; three daughters, Gail Mazerolle of Fort Fairfield, Betty Sharp and her husband, Jes, of Vacaville, Calif., and Sharon Armour and her husband, Alden, of Littleton; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

      Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A graveside service will be conducted later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Dougherty to Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 170 US Route 1, Suite 250, Falmouth, ME 04105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
