  • Notes
    • The Tovey family came to East Glassville in 1863 from Havelock, Kings County. Two lots, #109 and 110, were granted to William Tovey and his son John, then 17. William and his wife Sarah, about 60 years of age, also had a daughter Elizabeth, 27, living with them.
John and his sister Elizabeth continued to live on the property, which eventually was acquired by Robert Lunnie.
Another daughter, Jeanette, who was born in Havelock in 1838, married Andrew Spence of Glassville. One of her sons, William Tovey Spence, later pur chased a farm in East Glassville that had been granted to Thomas McFarland. It was not far from his mother's homestead.
Tovey Spence married Annie Mcintosh, daughter of Alexander Mcintosh
and Catherine Johnston. He lived a long and productive life, and was one of the potato growers of the area who, early on, began raising certified seed potatoes.
