Marion Jean Spence
1913-2011
Marion Jean Spence of Juniper passed away peacefully on March 31, 2011 at the Upper River Valley Hospital. Born on November 29, 1913, she was the daughter of the late David H. Lamont and Maggie (Young) Lamont, and wife of the late Gordon Spence.
Marion attended teacher’s college in Fredericton. Over the years, she taught in several one-room school houses and at Juniper Elementary School. She was an active member of the United Church of Canada, serving as an elder for many years. Known for her generosity within her community and beyond, she supported numerous activities and charities.
Marion is survived by her daughter Barb O’Donnell, granddaughter Jennifer O’Donnell, grandson Andrew O’Donnell (Nicole), great-grandson Wyatt O’Donnell, several nieces, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband Gordon Spence; son Robert Spence; and her sisters Hilda Ronald, Bess McIntosh, Anne Fitzgerald, and Marge Martinson.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 2, 2011 from L. R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Marion’s life will be held Sunday, April 3 at 2:30 p.m. from the L. R. Giberson Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Mary Taylor officiating. A reception will follow the celebration of her life, hosted next door at Faith Memorial United Church. Interment will be in the Glassville United Church Cemetery in the spring.
