610 | Obituary Muriel Eileen Hallett 1926 - 2023 It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Muriel Hallett of Fredericton NB at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Muriel was born on December 4th, 1926 in Beauford, NB. She was the daughter of Oliver and Edith Adams. Around the age of 3, she moved with her family to Juniper. Muriel attended school there and after graduating went to Vocational School in Woodstock. She took a commercial course in typing, shorthand, and office management. Muriel quickly found a job with J. Clark and Sons in Perth. She moved to the Fredericton office in 1952 and later worked for Atlas Construction until she retired in 1988. Muriel had known her husband, Jim, ever since she could remember. Their families lived beside each other in Juniper. They were married in 1957. She used to say that “Jim is a Saint” because he had three women living in their house. Muriel’s sister Pauline moved in with them in 1958 and later her mother did too. Muriel enjoyed travelling, regularly connecting with her father’s relatives in PEI. Her mother came from England as a “Middlemore Homes” child, so they often visited family in England over the years. Muriel’s adventures took her around Europe, Scotland, Ontario, Newfoundland, United States, and a cruise in the Caribbean. After a winter visit to see family in Florida, Muriel, Jim, Pauline, and Edith decided to make It a yearly winter stay for over 30 years. Even after Jim passed, Muriel continued to drive herself and Pauline to St. Petersburg, except for the last few years that they went and they hired a driver. She was predeceased by her parents Edith and Oliver Adams, her husband James (Jim) Alexander Hallett, and her sister Pauline Adams, nephew Laurie Mersereau, and many brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws and nieces. Muriel left behind many relatives: Doris and Jill Mersereau, Michelle, Eric, Alice and Clara Thornhill, Guida and Don Libby, and many Adams and Hallett relatives. Muriel also had a steadfast adopted family of Anne, Andy, Mitchell (Kaitlin) and Carter (Sara) Small and their extended family. She was actively involved with Gibson Memorial United Church, helping with their many fundraising endeavors. Muriel also liked reading, sewing, playing cards, knitting, and puzzles. She was always ready for an outing, if only to Pizza Delight or a long drive to see the trees and flowers. We would like to thank the folks at Windsor Court for their kindness and support over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Visitation will be held from York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 10 am, followed by Memorial Service in York Funeral Home’s T. 640 | Obituary: 1936-2021 After a teaching career of 35 years and his married life of 63 years with Donna Anderson, his soul left us on Sunday, January 31, 2021 to go with his heavenly family - his dad, Burpee, his mum, Muriel and his sister, Linda Orchard. Leaving behind his beloved children, Don and Cathy in Ontario and Doug and Claudia in Switzerland and the pride of his life, the best ever grandchildren; Sean and partner Leslie in San Franscisco, Sarah, in Ottawa who chose a career in teaching like her Grumpie, and a third marvellous grandson Nicholas in Switzerland. Harold also leaves behind his sister-in-law Monica Reeleder, his brother-in-law Neil Orchard and many awesome nieces, nephews and cousins. After retirement he enjoyed a much shorter career doing handyman odd jobs for seniors with his friend, Frank Harriet. They were known as the lightening boys. Besides spending time with his family and many wonderful friends he enjoyed anything to do with boats and trains, his Nashwaaksis Church choir, his volunteering at Pine Grove and at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He loved camping, fishing, square dancing, driving transport trucks, painting, rug hooking, travel and a really good card game. We will all miss your gentle spirit and the love we shared and we will enjoy the memories we have made together to keep in our hearts. Till we meet again, all my love. Due to Covid, there will be no service at this time, but instead just write down your favourite memory of him and we will share at a later time. Harold’s choice of charities would be Fredericton Hospice, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or Ronald McDonald House. Lovingly remembered by his siblings Eugene (Bud) De Long, Laurraine (Joe) Delong (Monica), Darlene Shaw, Marilyn Argraves and sister-in-law of Edith Beer. Dad left Glassville New Brunswick a young man and went to Kitchener, Ontario. While ice skating he met my mom. He worked hard at construction for Dunkers and XDG for many years. Two of his bigger builds were the Beachwood dam in New Brunswick and B.F. Goodrich in Kitchener. He loved country music, catching speckled trout from a brook down home, animals and snowmobiling. But when it comes to my mind about my dad is how he kept his vehicles spotless. He knew how to wash and wax a car. To this day he has 1994 Ford Truck that looks like it just came off the assembly line. Dad was particular, and when he became laid off from construction at the age of 54 he became the neighbourhood grass cutter and snow blower. Everyone knew her would do an impeccable job. He became high in demand doing most any job to perfection. Then fixing small engines became his biggest pass time. From all over people would leave mowers new and old in the driveway for him to fix. When I visited I always had to see the newest project and get the details of the problems. By the next visit I was called to the garage to hear it running and see the new paint job. I don’t think there was ever a conversation the New Brunswick didn’t come up. That was home and Dad I know your soul will be forever down east. Thank you to all the friends that dropped treats off and gave words of encouragement . To all of the Doctors, Nurses, PSW Workers, Chris the spiritual provider, Bill a neighbour and friend dad depended on and could count on. Special thanks for being there all the times that we needed you in dad’s final weeks. Special thank you to Rosie the cat dad’s newest companion and best medicine in his final weeks. A private family service will be held in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Arthur, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Ronald’s service will be video taped and a link will be provided below on Friday February 12, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Richard Zbarski Pets in Need Fund, part of Laurentian Hills Animal Hospital. c/o Amy Weber 720 Westmount Road East, Unit 6, Kitchener, Ontario, N2E 2M6 https://www.heritagefuneralhomes.ca/2021/02/ronald-de-long/ ******************************** Remembering DELONG In Memory of the late RONALD GEORGE DELONG Oct. 15, 1938 - Feb. 4, 2021 A monument has been placed in the Bristol Cemetery. 659 | Obituary: Arthur F. Tweedie 1928-2021 It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our rock and leader, Arthur Frederick Tweedie. After a long and demanding battle with health issues and the recent passing of his beloved wife Mary, Arthur left us suddenly but peacefully early Friday morning, April 2nd 2021 with family by his side. Arthur was born December 9, 1928 in Greenfield, NB, and would remain a fixture on the family homestead for all of his 92 years. The son of G. Frederick and Alice (nee Underhill), Arthur was predeceased also by brother Edwin and sisters Dorothy Saunders and Joan Boone. Arthur’s loving and cherished wife and constant companion for the past 63 years, Mary, sadly predeceased him in November 2020 as well. A caring, loving and devoted husband, father, Papa and great-grandfather, Arthur will be forever loved and cherished by his surviving family. Daughter Nancy Lee, sons Peter and Paul (Debbie), grandchildren Matthew (Briana), Cole and Brendan will miss greatly Papa, who doted on them all. And the youngest in the family, great granddaughter Brielle, who brought a sparkle to his eyes, will miss knowing a wonderful man. Arthur is also survived by a sister, Barbara Harvey, sister in-law Ethel Tweedie, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dad/Papa was devoted faithfully to his family. He was caring and giving, always willing to help any and all demands of his time and energy from family and friends alike. He will always be remembered for being in the stands or on the sidelines for every hockey game or baseball game that his children played in, driving carloads of kids to and from games all over the province -. and he continued to be a cheerleader for all the grandkids as they made their way through hockey and ball games as well. You could always find Papa and Nana in the stands where ever and whenever they were needed. Dad loved the outdoors. Although not into hunting or fishing, he loved being outdoors and being active. He enjoyed going camping with the family during better health times, loved the old-time family get togethers for Sunday picnics, and he especially loved snowmobiling with the old boys' club -. lots of miles and smiles!! Dad will be forever remembered for his incredible work ethic and devotion to the family farm. From first light until no more light, from planting to harvest and every day in between, he could be found working tirelessly to provide for his family. He grew a small modest farm into a thriving and prosperous business that his sons, and now grandsons are continuing to build and grow with, a testament to his drive and desire to succeed, to provide a future for his growing family. Dad/Papa will also be remembered for his presence on the back roads and field roads around Greenfield. You could always count on him driving along in his truck, checking up on the work, sitting on the headlands or taking up a vantage spot on a hill to survey the fields and make sure we were doing our work. Past few years has seen him spending as much time on his golf cart as he did in his truck, checking up on things. Lots of dusty, rough and hot miles put on with his “4 wheeler buggy” (not really) -. but it took him where ever he wanted to go! Our family would like to express our special thanks to the staff at Hospital Hotel Dieu in Perth for their care and attention to our fathers needs during his final days. Would also like to thank Dr. David Bell for his wonderful care for Arthur and thank him for the extra months he was able to give us to have with our Dad/Papa. Would also like to acknowledge Dr. Wayne McLauglin for his years of dedication in caring and attending to both dad and mum. Cannot thank him enough for all he was able to provide in medical care until his recent retirement. Thank you very much. Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Monday, April 5, 2021 from 12- 2pm. Respecting COVID - 19 regulations, face masks must be worn. A private service will be held. Barb had many loves but none that compared to her love of Victor, her children and their families. Her grandchildren became the center of her world until the great grandchildren arrived. Her face would light up just talking about how beautiful they all were. She loved to play cards with her friends on a regular basis, but nothing would get in the way of her and dancing. If there was a dance being held, you would always find her on the dance floor with Victor, cutting a rug. Barb will be remembered for her love of cooking. You could always find her whipping up a delicious meal or dessert to share with family, friends, and many in the community. She was in fact the world’s best biscuit maker, and you will not be able to tell her grandchildren otherwise. Barb will be best remembered for her sense of humour. She and Victor loved to laugh. Together on their beloved bus trips, Victor in the back making the ladies laugh and Barb at the front telling one of her many jokes. People flocked to be around them because you couldn't help but feel wonderful after any interaction. Barb really believed that, "happiness is like jam. 682 | Obituary: Barry Crain 1937-2017 It is with sadness we announce the death of Barry Stephen Crain, who passed away on June 2, 2017, just 12 days before his 80th birthday. Dad was born the eldest son of Barry and Helen Crain in Beechwood, NB. In 1958 he married our Mother, Jean (Demerchant). They had 3 sons, Allison (Janet), Kevin (Rhonda) and Alden (Tracey). Dad had 6 grand children, Jadon (Patricia), Julie (Mark), Brydon, Jake (Jessica), Cameron (Chandler) and Jackie. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers Elwood, Kenneth and Clarence. Sadly, his death occurred just 6 days after the funeral of his Sister-In-Law, Debbie Crain (Murray). Dad was married to Jean for 20 years. He married again in 2001 to Hazel Hopkins. In between was a long relationship with Olga Dalgleish of Alberta. His last few years were spent single. Dad lived an adventurous life, moving his family to Ontario in 1961 where he worked at General Motors Canada. We returned to NB in 1971 where he took up carpentry doing everything from small renovations to building one of the first modernized dairy barns in the Centerville area. Eventually Dad moved by himself to Alberta and had many stories to tell of travelling and working in Northern Canada and Alaska, fishing salmon and hunting moose. He could turn his hand to most anything and worked at more jobs than we can count. For the last year and a half Dad rented a small house in Keirsteadville, NB, close to Alden, Tracey and Jackie. Having Dad coming and going and being able to enjoy watching his youngest granddaughter, Jackie, growing up was a special gift to Alden’s family. Friday night pizza was a regular event. Dad will be missed for his stories and teasing. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156), 18 Scovil Road, Norton, NB, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, from 7 to 8:30pm. Alden Crain, will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00am from Beechwood Baptist Church. Interment will take place in Upper Kent Cemetery. After 35 years of being an educator, he enjoyed more than three decades of retirement, during which he had the chance to travel with his loving wife, Margaret, and enjoy their golden years together until she passed away six years ago. Beverly had many passions in life. He loved the Lord, his family, and his friends. He served as a deacon in the Tracy Mills United Baptist Church for many years. Having taught so many people in Carleton County, he made a huge impact over the course of his life. He was also bitten by the golf bug over 40 years ago. 692 | Obituary: BLAINE - Our Dad, Lloyd Earl Allen, known to many as Buster, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2020. He was born January 8, 1934 as far as he was concerned, he did not have a birthday after he turned 39 years! Dad was predeceased by the only wife he ever had, Patricia Salmon Allen and together they had four children. Peter (Margaret) Allen, Patti (Greg) Clews, Pam (Frank) Everett and Penny (Andrew) Bubar. As well, he was blessed with more grandchildren than he knew what to do with. Sarah, Seth, Shanna, Rose Marie, Kate, Abi, Destiny, Pierce, Johannah, Jenica and six Great Grand Children- Ana, Lincoln, Lakelin, Brailyn, Shailyn and Korrie. Dad is also survived by his brothers Leroy (Gail) Allen, Gerald (Sandra) Allen and his baby sister Darlene (Bruce) Cook. Dad spent most of his adult life in Albany New York where he worked first as a mechanic and then as a manager for H.L. Gage Sales Inc. Work was really what gave Dad his significance and you would even find him rebuilding truck motors in the evenings. When he retired at the age of 71, he continued paying his green fees by repairing golf carts and mowers at Burden Lake Country Club. He was proud of the fact that he landed two aces doing what he loved-golfing. Dad loved to eat out, buy clothing, boots, collect coins, flirt with the waitresses and ordered his vehicles from the factory so it could be just what he wanted. He also had a great love for squirrels, and had more than one greet him in his yard when he arrived to eat nuts from his hand. In 2015 Dad moved back to where he started in Maine, so he could be near his family. It was the most time we had ever had with Dad and were given the privilege of getting to know him a bit better. He was kind, funny, (sometimes inappropriate!) had a positive attitude, and even though he believed he was a hermit, he was thankful to have us near by as he faced the reality that he did have birthdays after he was 39 years old. We will never forget you Dad. There will be a private celebration of life in Canada. Anyone who would like to make a donation in memory of Dad, Aroostock House of Comfort, P.O. Box 867, Presque Isle Maine 04769, is absolutely wonderful. To send flowers to the family in memory of Lloyd E. Allen please visit our Tribute Store. Events There are no events scheduled. Also mourning his passing are his Godson, Liam Cashin (Teagan) of Fredericton, his Wednesday partner-in-crime, Penelope Verch, and the members of his birthday lunch group. Bruce graduated from Hartland High School in 1970 when he received the highest score in the Province on that year’s departmental exams. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts with honours in mathematics from Mount Allison University in 1974. He attended the 50th reunion of his class last summer where he enjoyed reconnecting with several of his friends from his university days. He obtained his LLB from the University of New Brunswick in 1977 and was a Beaverbrook Scholar during his three years of law school. He was admitted to the Law Society of New Brunswick in 1977 and practised law in the City of Fredericton until his retirement in early 2021. He received his Queen’s Counsel designation in 1996. He was a great mentor to many young lawyers. In 2002 he received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for his service to Fredericton and the Province. He received the Canadian Bar Association Pro Bono Award in 2011 in recognition of his outstanding pro bono legal services to his community, his contributions to the CBA, and the many lawyers he mentored during his career. His community involvement included sitting on the Theatre New Brunswick Foundation Board for many years and acting as legal counsel to the Board of the Ferguson Foundation for the prevention and elimination of family violence. Bruce was a kind, generous, selfless, compassionate, and humble soul. He touched countless people in many ways. His dedication and kindness to his clients, his friends and his family was steadfast, and his good works were often done quietly. Bruce never sought recognition and in fact avoided it. Friends and colleagues knew that they could go to Bruce for advice, and he would always do his best to provide it, in a considered, diplomatic, and non-judgemental way. Although Bruce held himself to an exacting standard he was always humbled to be of service to others when asked. Bruce was a man of deep Christian faith who lived every day by the Golden Rule, one of Christianity’s central teachings: "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You" and to the admonition in Micah 6:8 "To do Justice and to Love Kindness and to Walk Humbly with your God." He attended Brunswick Street Baptist Church in Fredericton regularly while maintaining his membership in his hometown church in Hartland. Bruce loved New Brunswick, was proud of his province and was devoted to his Town of Hartland where he was born and grew up. He was a great friend and had a wonderful sense of humour. He was an avid reader and a true music lover. He also loved sports and enjoyed watching his favourite teams the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox along with U.S. College basketball. Bruce was involved in politics with the Progressive Conservative Party from a young age and was a very influential political strategist. He was a trusted advisor to several party leaders and premiers, most notably his uncle, former premier Richard Hatfield. Bruce’s contributions to all levels of political organizing from riding organizations to his close involvement in managing local, provincial, and national election campaigns were significant. His sage advice was sought by all and respected by those on all sides of the political spectrum. His advice was trusted because it was always given keeping in mind what was better for New Brunswick. Bruce stood as an outstanding example of all that is good and noble about being involved in the political process, and he remains a role model for others to follow. Bruce served as a mentor to many young people in both politics and the practice of law. He had the ability to recognize talent in others and to encourage them and bring them a sense of confidence in their abilities. Bruce was the consummate lawyer: he was professional, ethical, and totally dedicated to his clients. He was highly respected by all members of the Bar and was named to the Best Lawyers in Canada list. He grew to enjoy his retirement, in summer spending time outdoors and gardening. He was especially proud of his tomato garden. Most days would see Bruce trekking across the UNB campus for his daily walk. Visitation will be held at the Britton Funeral Home, 2 High Street, Hartland on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 1 – 4 p.m. The funeral service will he held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at the Hartland Baptist Church.
