| 1411 | Obituary: PERHAM - Phyllis Barton Blackstone, 93, of Perham, Maine went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2020, while at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle, Maine. Phyllis was born in Houlton on September 8, 1926 to Roy A. Barton, Sr. and Maude (Anderson) Barton. She graduated from Bob Jones College (now Bob Jones University) in 1947. Phyllis and her five siblings all were proud to graduate from Bob Jones College/University. She taught school in Limestone and Washburn, Maine before marrying Wendell E. Blackstone in 1949. Wendell and Phyllis worked together on the family dairy and potato farm for more than 60 years. She was an expert seed-cutter, truck driver during harvest, and bookkeeper for the farm in alternating years with her sister, Joyce. After her five children were raised and on their own, she went back to school and earned a CNA degree using her new skills to work at the Caribou Nursing Home and Cary Medical Center as a ward secretary. She was a blessing to her patients and an encourager to her co-workers. Phyllis had a loving heart for people. She was a faithful, long-time member of the Perham Baptist Church and served the Lord singing in the choir, playing the organ, and supporting her church family. Proverbs 3:5-6 were her life verses. She finished her life as she lived it - trusting in the Lord and being directed by Him. Phyllis loved her family. Her life revolved around family gatherings, especially Christmas celebrations, which included her famous Blackstone Special, and the annual 4th of July Barton celebration at the lake, and family accomplishments. She was very proud of her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. Even as she grew older, she kept in touch on Facebook with her inspirational messages, her iPad, and FaceTime. She was a texting Gram extraordinaire. Her use of technology was impressive and her card making abilities were amazing. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, husband Wendell E. Blackstone, grandson Scott Blackstone, daughter-in-law Coleen Blackstone, brother Sherwood Barton and his wife Doris, brothers-in-law Paul Blackstone and Clayton Blackstone, Sr. She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Blackstone Fox and husband Larry and Lori (Blackstone) Bouchard and husband Darrell, three sons Rev. Barry Blackstone, Jay Blackstone and wife Tamisue, and Michael Blackstone and wife Julie. She has nine much loved grandchildren: Brad Fox, Elliot Fox and girlfriend Kristen Gamboa, Marnie (Blackstone) Legaspi and husband Josue, Krysten Blackstone, Brennan Blackstone and girlfriend Sarah Morneault, Justen Blackstone and wife Olivia, Alyssa (Blackstone) Weldon and husband Brandon, Michaela Blackstone, and precious great-grandchildren Brynna and Connor Fox and Judah and Elena Legaspi. Phyllis is also survived by her three sisters Joyce (Barton) Blackstone, Gloria (Barton) Dinsmore and husband George, and Betty (Barton) Tompkins and husband Wendell, and one brother Roy A. Barton, Jr. and wife Joyce. Phyllis’s family would like to thank the administration and staff at Leisure Village, especially THE GIRLS, for their loving care and concern for our mother. Also, our sincere thanks for the expert advice and assistance we received from those at the Aroostook House of Comfort. Calling hours will be held at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street in Presque Isle on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 from 6-9 p.m. with limited entance capacity and using social distancing practices. | 1412 | Obituary: Perham - Wendell Estey Blackstone, 92, of Perham, Maine, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on February 7, 2017, in Caribou, Maine at the Maine Veterans' Home. Wendell was born in Caribou on August 25, 1924, to Carroll and Glenna (Estey) Blackstone. He served in the US Army during World War II and was a medic in Occupied Italy. Returning home after the war, he joined his father, Carroll and uncle, Read Blackstone, on the family dairy and potato farm, Blackstone Brothers. Later, he and his cousin, Clayton Blackstone, Sr., operated the farm where he labored with Clayton and eventually his son, Jay and nephew, Gary Blackstone, for more than 60 years. The Blackstone Homestead was a special place for Wendell. He was a faithful, long-time member of the Perham Baptist Church where he served the Lord in many capacities including president, deacon, and Sunday School teacher. In Perham town government, he was on the Board of Selectmen for many years and represented Perham on the School Board before there was a school district. Friends and neighbors in Perham will well remember that Wendell might have been the first one to welcome them to town and to visit them through the years. He enjoyed stopping in to visit his new friends and neighbors; it was important to him and showed the care and concern he had for others. Wendell was an avid fisherman and hunter. Some of his most enjoyable moments were spent on Beaver Brook and fishing at the Dead Water. However, the joy of serving his God, family, and friends was the most important. He was married to the love of his life, Phyllis, for almost 68 years. His five children, Sylvia, Barry, Lori, Jay and Michael, were so loved and are able to say, "(His) children arise up, and call (him) blessed." Prov. 31:28. Wendell is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis (Barton) Blackstone; two daughters, Sylvia Fox and her husband, Larry of Presque Isle and Lori Bouchard and her husband, Darrell of Washburn; three sons, Rev. | 1434 | Obituary: Raymond Douglas Crabbe, born on May 20th, 1948, embarked on his final journey to be with his Lord and Savior on March 11, 2024, succumbing to illness. His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him deeply. Raymond's legacy of love and devotion will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Paulette, who was the cornerstone of his life. He is also survived by his mother, Sadie Crabbe, his daughter Angie Crabbe, brother Donald Crabbe, and his cherished grandchildren Caleb Gilbert, Indira Trowsdale, Tiana Trowsdale, and Jemma Trowsdale, nephew Ben, niece Spring, son-in-law Stephen (Grace) Trowsdale, brothers-in-law Jamie (Teresa) Chase, John (Barbie) Chase, Michael (Karen) Chase, and sisters-in-law Rhonda (Alan) Poynton, Patti Chase, Connie Chase, and Robyn Chase. Raymond was preceded in death by his daughter, Catina Trowsdale, and his father, Deane Crabbe, parents-in-law Paul and Claudia Chase, brothers-in-law David Chase and Robert Chase, and sister-in-law Carol Chase. Raymond's journey began and unfolded in the town of Bristol, New Brunswick. From his earliest days, he was happiest when in the woods, fishing hunting or trapping. It was in Bristol that he found a profound and enduring love story with his cherished wife, Paulette. Their union was a testament to the power of love, loyalty, and faith. Throughout his life, Raymond demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his faith, tirelessly spreading the message of God's love and salvation. His dedication to God was demonstrated daily. He started every morning on his knees in prayer. He had a unrelenting burden for people’s souls. Raymond's faith was not merely a part of his life; it was the guiding force that shaped his existence. Raymond spent his life, along with his father and brother building the family business, Crabbe Lumber. His work ethic is unsurpassed. He loved work. He did not consider it work...'it's who I am'. Attested to by the fact that very few were able to keep up to his relentless drive to get the job done. Beyond the business, Raymond's true passion lay in people, caring for his employees, many of whom affectionately referred to him as 'Dad.' His compassion knew no bounds, and his generosity touched the lives of countless individuals. Raymond wasn't just a man of business; he was a man of the outdoors. When he wasn't busy with the mill, you could find him out in the woods, hunting, guiding, or most often, fishing. There wasn't a fishing spot too remote or too small that he wouldn't explore. From the wilds of Alaska to the shores of Newfoundland, he chased after the perfect catch with a passion that never waned. Raymond's adventures weren't limited to North America. He found fulfillment in serving others, especially on mission trips to South America. Building schools and delivering radios in the remote mountains was where he truly felt comfortable, making a real difference in people's lives. Many of his happiest times were spent with his family. Whether they were fishing, riding ATVs, paddling canoes, or just enjoying a cookout, Raymond cherished those moments. He was Papa or Grampy to his grandchildren, always ready to share his love for the outdoors and create lasting memories. Raymond's kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him. Though he may have departed from this earth, his spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he created. In the embrace of his loved ones and in the comforting whispers of cherished memories, Raymond's presence will endure, a testament to a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved. Raymond's life was about embracing every adventure and spreading the gospel and kindness wherever he went. As we remember him, let's hold onto the spirit of adventure and generosity that defined his life. Take solace in the knowledge that he now rests in eternal peace with his heavenly father, reunited with loved ones who preceded him. May his memory be a blessing and may his legacy of love and faith continue to inspire. Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 3-8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel at 1pm. | 1451 | Obituary: Robert "Bob" Demerchant 1931-2024 On Monday, December 30, 2024, Robert (Bob) Leon Demerchant met his Lord face to face, and was reunited with his beloved wife, Jean after a short illness. Bob was born in Mineral, NB on July 20, 1931, Bob was one of 9 children born to the late Bartlett and Flora (Hargrove) of Mineral NB. Bob loved growing up on the Monquart and often spoke of the many memories he shared with the Ruff’s, Lloyd’s and McCullough’s. Bob grew up quickly, losing his dad at the age of 9. He moved into Bath as a teen to attend High School and joined the Canadian Air Force for a short time following school. Bob, and several of his friends and brothers, moved to Oshawa in the 50’s to work at the prestigious GM plant. It was on summer vacation at home that Bob met Jean Crain of Beechwood. They were married in 1960 and made Oshawa their home. Their family soon grew to include a son, Brent, and a daughter, Cynthia (Cindy). All the people and places that mattered most to Bob and Jean were back in New Brunswick, so they moved home in ’69. At home Bob worked as a bus driver and carpenter. As a carpenter Bob’s creativity and perfectionism shaped his work. Many buildings throughout Carleton and Victoria Counties stand as a testament to his hard work and craftmanship. When not working Bob and Jean loved to camp, snowmobile and four wheel. A perfect day for them involved boiling the kettle “out back somewheres”. Early in their married life Bob and Jean decided to make God the center of their home. They faithfully served the Lord and were thrilled to watch their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren follow in their steps. Bob lost his beloved Jean in 2023, and his joy has never been quite as full since. His family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Everett Chalmers Hospital and the URVH in Waterville for their exemplary care. Their support has made our journey much easier. Bob was predeceased by Jean Crain, his wife of 63 years, his parents Bartlett and Flora, siblings Arthur, Lila, Avery and wife Marion Giberson, Juanita and husband Lloyd Bowater, Phyllis and husband Don Giberson, and Lowell and wife Joan Hall. He is survived by his son Brent (Connie) and daughter Cindy (Lew) Denny; grandchildren Nathan (Pamela) Denny, Shane (Michelle) Demerchant, Jenna (Clay) Brink, Colby (Jessica) Demerchant and Matthew (Melissa) Denny; great-grandchildren Zachary, Nicholas, Logan, Zane, Arya, Kolten, Kowen, Taylor, Lyla, Evangeline, Miller, Luke and Rory; brother Keith (Mary) and Sister Myrna (Peter) Paccione and many nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 6-8 pm from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 3 pm from True North Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Palmer will officiate. | 1480 | Obituary: Ruth E. Darkis 1934-2024 The death of Ruth Ella Darkis occurred peacefully on September 4, 2024 at River View Manor in Bath, New Brunswick. Ruth was born in Bath, NB on August 13, 1934 to the late Carrie and Enoch DeMerchant. She was predeceased by her husband, George Darkis; Brothers, Milton, Clifford, and Darrel; Sisters, Pearl and Norma, and daughter in law, Sandra. Ruth is survived by 5 children, Debra (Jerry Wood), Samuel (Donna Avery), Jane, Juanita (Joe Poirier), Sarah; 8 grandchildren Emily (Josh), Thomas (Tabitha), Carrie (Mike), Jason (Kimmy), Matthew (Chelsea), Maggie (Calder), Patrick (Nicole), Joey, 7 great grandchildren; Ryan, Adam, Katie, Kira, Connor, Cedric and Finn; Siblings, Dorothy Craig, Marlene Grant (Buster) Galen DeMerchant, Margaret Barter and Judy Pearson (Darryel); nephews, nieces, extended family as well as her beloved dog, Ginger. Mum lived her life to the fullest. She helped dad on the farm and was a full time homemaker and mother. She believed that her children should experience as many interests as possible while growing up. She volunteered at our schools for hot lunches and music festivals among other things. She pushed piano lessons when there was a teacher nearby and there was always music in the home. She taught Sunday school and made the church and our involvement in the choir an important part of our lives. Church was very important to mum. She enjoyed bible study and had a massive collection of related books. She made sure we had summer camp and as many sports as we would play, basketball was a favourite as she had played in high school. From drama to skating lessons, she was always there pushing us to grow into well rounded humans. Quilting and knitting were easy for mum and she loved to share that knowledge. I was not a good pupil but her friend, Lynn, excelled. She was known for her bountiful garden and she loved to cook. Her donuts, bread and especially her apple pies were well known. In her 20’s she decided to leave us with dad in the evenings while she took a book keeping course to help manage the farm. I don’t think she knew how good dad was at making fudge. In her 70’s, terribly afraid of heights, she got on a plane for the first time and flew to Vancouver to help her youngest move into a new home. She had quite a sense of adventure. Mum was dedicated to her family. They were the most important part of her life. Mum loved people. The staff at River View Manor were good to her and we are very appreciative of the care she received during this time. Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol, NB, on Monday, September 9th, 2024 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Vaughn Palin will be officiating. Interment will be in the Bristol Free Will Baptist Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations made to DunRoamin' Stray and Rescue, River View Manor, Free Will Baptist Cemetery, River Valley Cancer Support Group or Fielding Baptist Church would be appreciated. www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca (506)392-1115 https://www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca/obituaries/179944 | DEMERCHANT, Ruth Ella (I19881)

| 1486 | Obituary: Sandra L. Hart 1948-2017 It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Sandra Lee Hart, announce her peaceful passing at her home in Island View NB on August 23rd,2017. Our much beloved wife, mother and grandmother “Grammie Hart” was born on November 13th, 1948, the daughter of Morley and Eva Oakes. She was a genuine sincere “Woman of Wisdom” whose common sense approach to life endeared her to so many. Sandra was known for her fun loving attitude, great smile, kind heart, honesty, loyalty and quiet dignity. Sandra was born in Riley Brook, NB. Her family moved to the Bath area on Feb. 16, 1955. A long-haired, brown-eyed beauty, she graduated from Bath Regional High School with a high school diploma as well as a Class “M” N.B. Basketball Championship. She successfully completed the two-year teacher training program at Teacher’s College in Fredericton, NB. In 1969 she married Eric Hart and together the new couple moved to Labrador City, NL., where they set up home for the next 31 years. Sandra dedicated herself to raising her two children, Eric and Thais, while at the same time providing unconditional support to her husband’s career aspirations. She, being a true introvert, never sought the spotlight, preferring to stay behind the scenes, working her heart and soul, for others to achieve success. She was very proud that she worked as a school volunteer at A.P. Low School for 19 years with the same teacher, Daphne Parsons. Sandra was renowned for her ability to prepare a fully-cooked meal in a matter of minutes. Her personal recipe book and her cast iron frying pans were always close at hand. Always remembered will be her “Black Forest Cake”, “Scandinavian Apple Cake”, “Strawberry Salad” and “Friday Night Homemade Pizza”. In addition to cooking she loved to scrub, clean and organize a room or closet and her results were of a professional calibre. Sandra was a gifted crafter whose work was meticulous and appealing. Her talents included; Knitting, Sewing, Rug Hooking, Quilling, Labrador Coat Design, Doll Making, Quilting, Needlepoint, Cake Decorating and Stained Glass. Her standards were high and her work was admired and enjoyed by many. Sandra had an uncanny knack for fixing and repairing everyday household items and family and friends were often found seeking her expertise. Sandra loved to dance and she was so smooth and sleek executing her dance moves. She so enjoyed dancing “Thriller” in her flowing white gown and as well enjoyed her favorite dances, “Whiskey Wiggle” (Couples) and “Crazy Legs” (Line). During 1997 she helped restore her father’s sugar bush and then worked the sugar seasons from 1997 to 2013. It was no secret that she could outwork any two men in the sugar business. The peace and quiet of the sugar woods was her favorite part of making maple syrup. A LIFE WELL LIVED BUT MUCH TOO SHORT. Sandra is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Eric, her son John Eric (Teri), Barrie ,Ont.; daughter Thais (Dan), Hanwell, NB.; grandchildren Brigham, Rowan, Georgia and Sayre, Barrie, Ont; and Addison and Evan, Hanwell, NB; Siblings Avis Doherty (Allen), Debbie Gee (Terry), Mike Oakes (Nancy), Jennifer Polochois ( Chris), Troy Oakes (Karen) and Sterling Oakes. | 1489 | Obituary: Scovil Raymond Lee was born in his parents home at the foot of the east hill in Beaufort, NB, to the late Joseph and Alice (Searles) Lee on March 20, 1927. On Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the age of ninety, he died at home in Juniper, NB, only a few miles from where he was born. During his life, however, he traveled widely throughout Canada and the USA, visiting historic landmarks, national parks, and museums where anyone who happened to engage him in conversation might be surprised to discover that the unimposing gentleman next to them knew more about the history and points of interest of each attraction than either the guides or the guidebooks. Although his mother was a schoolteacher, Scovil definitely did not like going to school and, one day when he was only 12 years old, he dug in his heels and flatly refused to go. Instead, he followed his father to the woods he loved, and began the career as a woodsman that lasted throughout his life. His dislike of going to school did not reflect any dislike of education. He thought other people, particularly his younger brother Joey, should most definitely go to school, and his persistent and sometimes coercive efforts to that end resulted in Joey's graduation from high school. Scovil enlisted in the army during WWII and was sent to Trenton, Ontario for basic training, but before he could be shipped overseas, the war ended and he was shipped back to Beaufort, instead, and there he stayed. There, he and his cousin Earl began a business partnership which would grow and flourish for many years. He was well read, articulate and sharply intelligent, had a fine memory for detail and was an excellent businessman. But he will be remembered by his family for his playfulness, his off-beat sense of humour, his delight at all things ridiculous, his love for his dogs, his silly laugh. He will be remembered as the one who showed up on Christmas eve with outrageous gifts for young nephews and neices, the one who took carloads of kids to the dairy bar and let them order whatever they wanted, who arrived on Friday nights with icecream and let us have all we could eat, the one who gathered us up and took us for long rambling drives through the woods he loved so much... the one who never fished because he wouldn't even kill a worm. Scovil is survived by 1 sister, Patricia Glass; 1 brother, Joseph Lee (Marie); 7 nieces and nephews, Wanda MacFarlane, Blair Glass, Joan Tremblay, Robert Glass, Joseph Lee, Billy Lee and Christopher Lee as well as several great nieces and great nephews. Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 12-2pm. A funeral service will follow at 2pm from the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. John Lownds will officiate. The interment will be in Christ Anglican Cemetery, Glassville at a later date.
