1212 | Obituary: Robert "Bob" Demerchant 1931-2024 On Monday, December 30, 2024, Robert (Bob) Leon Demerchant met his Lord face to face, and was reunited with his beloved wife, Jean after a short illness. Bob was born in Mineral, NB on July 20, 1931, Bob was one of 9 children born to the late Bartlett and Flora (Hargrove) of Mineral NB. Bob loved growing up on the Monquart and often spoke of the many memories he shared with the Ruff’s, Lloyd’s and McCullough’s. Bob grew up quickly, losing his dad at the age of 9. He moved into Bath as a teen to attend High School and joined the Canadian Air Force for a short time following school. Bob, and several of his friends and brothers, moved to Oshawa in the 50’s to work at the prestigious GM plant. It was on summer vacation at home that Bob met Jean Crain of Beechwood. They were married in 1960 and made Oshawa their home. Their family soon grew to include a son, Brent, and a daughter, Cynthia (Cindy). All the people and places that mattered most to Bob and Jean were back in New Brunswick, so they moved home in ’69. At home Bob worked as a bus driver and carpenter. As a carpenter Bob’s creativity and perfectionism shaped his work. Many buildings throughout Carleton and Victoria Counties stand as a testament to his hard work and craftmanship. When not working Bob and Jean loved to camp, snowmobile and four wheel. A perfect day for them involved boiling the kettle “out back somewheres”. Early in their married life Bob and Jean decided to make God the center of their home. They faithfully served the Lord and were thrilled to watch their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren follow in their steps. Bob lost his beloved Jean in 2023, and his joy has never been quite as full since. His family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Everett Chalmers Hospital and the URVH in Waterville for their exemplary care. Their support has made our journey much easier. Bob was predeceased by Jean Crain, his wife of 63 years, his parents Bartlett and Flora, siblings Arthur, Lila, Avery and wife Marion Giberson, Juanita and husband Lloyd Bowater, Phyllis and husband Don Giberson, and Lowell and wife Joan Hall. He is survived by his son Brent (Connie) and daughter Cindy (Lew) Denny; grandchildren Nathan (Pamela) Denny, Shane (Michelle) Demerchant, Jenna (Clay) Brink, Colby (Jessica) Demerchant and Matthew (Melissa) Denny; great-grandchildren Zachary, Nicholas, Logan, Zane, Arya, Kolten, Kowen, Taylor, Lyla, Evangeline, Miller, Luke and Rory; brother Keith (Mary) and Sister Myrna (Peter) Paccione and many nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 6-8 pm from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 3 pm from True North Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Palmer will officiate. 1232 | Obituary: Ruth E. Darkis 1934-2024 The death of Ruth Ella Darkis occurred peacefully on September 4, 2024 at River View Manor in Bath, New Brunswick. Ruth was born in Bath, NB on August 13, 1934 to the late Carrie and Enoch DeMerchant. She was predeceased by her husband, George Darkis; Brothers, Milton, Clifford, and Darrel; Sisters, Pearl and Norma, and daughter in law, Sandra. Ruth is survived by 5 children, Debra (Jerry Wood), Samuel (Donna Avery), Jane, Juanita (Joe Poirier), Sarah; 8 grandchildren Emily (Josh), Thomas (Tabitha), Carrie (Mike), Jason (Kimmy), Matthew (Chelsea), Maggie (Calder), Patrick (Nicole), Joey, 7 great grandchildren; Ryan, Adam, Katie, Kira, Connor, Cedric and Finn; Siblings, Dorothy Craig, Marlene Grant (Buster) Galen DeMerchant, Margaret Barter and Judy Pearson (Darryel); nephews, nieces, extended family as well as her beloved dog, Ginger. Mum lived her life to the fullest. She helped dad on the farm and was a full time homemaker and mother. She believed that her children should experience as many interests as possible while growing up. She volunteered at our schools for hot lunches and music festivals among other things. She pushed piano lessons when there was a teacher nearby and there was always music in the home. She taught Sunday school and made the church and our involvement in the choir an important part of our lives. Church was very important to mum. She enjoyed bible study and had a massive collection of related books. She made sure we had summer camp and as many sports as we would play, basketball was a favourite as she had played in high school. From drama to skating lessons, she was always there pushing us to grow into well rounded humans. Quilting and knitting were easy for mum and she loved to share that knowledge. I was not a good pupil but her friend, Lynn, excelled. She was known for her bountiful garden and she loved to cook. Her donuts, bread and especially her apple pies were well known. In her 20’s she decided to leave us with dad in the evenings while she took a book keeping course to help manage the farm. I don’t think she knew how good dad was at making fudge. In her 70’s, terribly afraid of heights, she got on a plane for the first time and flew to Vancouver to help her youngest move into a new home. She had quite a sense of adventure. Mum was dedicated to her family. They were the most important part of her life. Mum loved people. The staff at River View Manor were good to her and we are very appreciative of the care she received during this time. Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol, NB, on Monday, September 9th, 2024 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Vaughn Palin will be officiating. Interment will be in the Bristol Free Will Baptist Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations made to DunRoamin' Stray and Rescue, River View Manor, Free Will Baptist Cemetery, River Valley Cancer Support Group or Fielding Baptist Church would be appreciated. www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca (506)392-1115 https://www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca/obituaries/179944 | DEMERCHANT, Ruth Ella (I19881)

1238 | Obituary: Scovil Raymond Lee was born in his parents home at the foot of the east hill in Beaufort, NB, to the late Joseph and Alice (Searles) Lee on March 20, 1927. On Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the age of ninety, he died at home in Juniper, NB, only a few miles from where he was born. During his life, however, he traveled widely throughout Canada and the USA, visiting historic landmarks, national parks, and museums where anyone who happened to engage him in conversation might be surprised to discover that the unimposing gentleman next to them knew more about the history and points of interest of each attraction than either the guides or the guidebooks. Although his mother was a schoolteacher, Scovil definitely did not like going to school and, one day when he was only 12 years old, he dug in his heels and flatly refused to go. Instead, he followed his father to the woods he loved, and began the career as a woodsman that lasted throughout his life. His dislike of going to school did not reflect any dislike of education. He thought other people, particularly his younger brother Joey, should most definitely go to school, and his persistent and sometimes coercive efforts to that end resulted in Joey's graduation from high school. Scovil enlisted in the army during WWII and was sent to Trenton, Ontario for basic training, but before he could be shipped overseas, the war ended and he was shipped back to Beaufort, instead, and there he stayed. There, he and his cousin Earl began a business partnership which would grow and flourish for many years. He was well read, articulate and sharply intelligent, had a fine memory for detail and was an excellent businessman. But he will be remembered by his family for his playfulness, his off-beat sense of humour, his delight at all things ridiculous, his love for his dogs, his silly laugh. He will be remembered as the one who showed up on Christmas eve with outrageous gifts for young nephews and neices, the one who took carloads of kids to the dairy bar and let them order whatever they wanted, who arrived on Friday nights with icecream and let us have all we could eat, the one who gathered us up and took us for long rambling drives through the woods he loved so much... the one who never fished because he wouldn't even kill a worm. Scovil is survived by 1 sister, Patricia Glass; 1 brother, Joseph Lee (Marie); 7 nieces and nephews, Wanda MacFarlane, Blair Glass, Joan Tremblay, Robert Glass, Joseph Lee, Billy Lee and Christopher Lee as well as several great nieces and great nephews. Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 12-2pm. A funeral service will follow at 2pm from the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. John Lownds will officiate. The interment will be in Christ Anglican Cemetery, Glassville at a later date. 1268 | Obituary: Tammy L. McBrine 1962-2025 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tammy Lynn McBrine of East Glassville, on Saturday January 18, 2025, at the Upper River Valley Hospital at the age of 62. Tammy was born January 22, 1962, in Minto and was the daughter of the late Shirley Amos and Roland Lewis. She was also predeceased by her brother, Barry Lewis. Tammy is survived by her loving husband of over 41 years, Stewart; Stepfather, Otto Amos, her brother, Brent Lewis; brother-in-law, Francis (Monica); four children, Matthew, Nicholas (Maureen), Megan Walton (Chris), Travis (Magen); 8 grandchildren, Michaella, Isabelle, Nolan, Josie, Ethan, Leo, Vivian, Evie; as well as several, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family. Fate and a fearless sense of adventure led her to her husband Stewart, and the place they would call home, East Glassville. For a city girl, and former Miss Chipman, she adapted to the challenges of living at the “end of the earth” and together they flourished. Whatever challenges arose they faced them head on. With the help of many friends, neighbours, and loved ones, they built a family, a successful business, and a wonderful life together. In her working years, Tammy worked as a secretary for McBrine Logging LTD. When she wasn’t working there, she stayed busy being a mother to her four children. Tammy could often be found in the crowd of a basketball or hockey game where she likely won the 50/50. She was a true mother in every sense of the word. Her selfless devotion to her family knew no limits. Like all great mothers she wore many hats. Doctor, nurse, caretaker, chef, custodian, laundromat owner, chauffeur, guidance counselor, teacher, lawyer, judge, and jury. Tammy’s love knew no bounds. Her sense of motherly duty to instill values and direction into her children sometimes caused the odd disagreement. Luckily, she never gave into the easy way out and her children can’t thank her enough for her tremendous effort and unwavering support over the years. Tammy loved being a Grammy and would light up when her grandchildren walked through the door for a visit. She always had lots of treats on hand to share with them. She enjoyed spending time entertaining at their camp in Juniper, canoeing in the summer, and snowmobiling in the winter. She even went on a few moose hunting expeditions from time to time. Traveling was also a joy of Tammy’s, particularly a shopping trip. Chances are that she already had a bag packed in case she got an invite to go. Although Tammy’s illness began to limit her in her later years, she still enjoyed having loved ones visit, sharing a laugh and a witty comment or two. She kept her carefree demeanor and sense of humour with her until the very end. Tammy will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff at the URVH, who treated Tammy with kindness and compassion in her final months. As per Tammy’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral arrangements. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Glassville United Cemetery, DunRoamin’, the MS Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice. https://www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca/obituaries/182735 | LEWIS, Tammy Lynn (I20749)

1279 | Obituary: The death of Anna Kathleen “Kaye” Foster occurred on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Upper River Valley Hospital. Born September 4, 1930, in Knowlesville, NB, Kaye was the daughter of the late Ira and Nellie (Brown) Corey. In addition to her parents, Kaye was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul Foster; their infant daughter, Melanie; and eleven siblings, Erma, Murray, Wilfred, Robert, Alice, Norman, Tom, Claude, Warren, Keith, and Gordon. Kaye is survived by her three sons, Geoffrey, Kris (Wanda), and Stuart (Trish); five grandchildren, Erin Blaney (Corey), Meredith Graham (Nathaniel), Kate, Cameron (Andrea), and Elizabeth; and two great-grandsons, Kian and Quin Blaney. Kaye is also survived by her brother, Rev. Judson Corey, and sister, Shirley Brooks (Rev. Paul), as well as numerous nieces, nephew, and extended family. Kaye was born and raised in Knowlesville until the family moved to Juniper in 1945, when Kaye was fifteen. She graduated from Juniper Superior School in 1948 and taught a term at Biggar Ridge School in order to earn money to attend Normal School. Kaye graduated with a teaching degree in 1950 and immediately began teaching at the Juniper School. Kaye loved to reminisce about her adventures teaching grades 1-8 in a one-room school house and was always quick to remind us that she never had to resort to using the strap in her classroom. Kaye and Paul married in August 1951 and made their home on Pine Street for over sixty years. As Paul established his business, Kaye focused on the task of raising three rambunctious boys. In 1965, once the youngest of the boys entered school, Kaye began crossing the yard every day to work in the office with Paul, where she worked until she retired in 1995. Kaye was a devoted member of the United Church and was active in the choir and UCW for decades. As well, Kaye was a long-time member of the Eastern Star. As a couple, Paul and Kaye loved to travel and were happiest when entertaining family and friends for potluck dinners, bridge games, or other activities. Paul and Kaye loved to spend time at their camp on Miramichi Lake and did an equal amount of entertaining while there. As well, they enjoyed spending time in Florida each winter. In both locations, Kaye was most likely to be spotted in the water, as she loved to swim. All of Kaye’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren have wonderful memories of time at the lake. Visitation will be held from Faith Memorial United Church, 175 Burnham Road, Florenceville-Bristol, on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 2:00 pm from the church, followed by a reception in the Foster Fellowship Hall. Rev. Susan Estabrooks will officiate. Interment will be in the United Church Community Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank Dr. Clay Marco and Dr. Bruce Lockhart for their compassionate care of Kaye during her time in the hospital. As well, we would like to thank the caregivers who provided Kaye with professional yet loving care during her extended stay in the hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations to Faith Memorial United Church or the Alzheimer’s Society would be much appreciated by the family. www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca (506) 392-1115 https://www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca/obituaries/122529 | COREY, Anna Kathleen (I19036)
