1020 | Obituary: It is with much sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of Neeltje (Nelly) Omvlee of Bedell Settlement at the Upper River Valley Hospital on Tuesday March 28, 2023 at the age of 80. Neeltje was born in Holland on April 16, 1942, to the late Frank and Wilhelmina (Mien) Habold. Survived by her husband Roelof, son Roland Omvlee (Cheryl), daughter Wendy Omvlee (Pieter), and her grandchildren, Jonathan Omvlee (Miranda) and Christina Omvlee (John). Survived by her brothers, Brian Habold (Joyce), George Habold (Ina) and John Habold, her sisters, Wil Bijleveld (Daan), Liesbeth Stapper and Nine Spijker (Leendert) and Marian Vanderweiden, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Henk Omvlee, Gerard Omvlee (Ineke) and Hans Omvlee (Ellie) and Wil Beitsma. And of course also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her older brother Rinus Habold and her older sister Pea de Groot, her brothers-in-law, Jaap Omvlee, Jan Omvlee, Ben Omvlee, Fred Omvlee, Jan de Groot, Henk Hoogeveen and Henk Stapper, her sisters-in-law, Fini Hoogeveen, Aaltje Omvlee, Sjoukje Omvlee, Boukje Omvlee and Gezien Omvlee, her nieces Christina de Groot, Anthoinette Omvlee and Simone Stapper. She loved her family and friends immensely. She especially loved the title of Oma to Jonathan and Christina. When Jonathan and Christina were quite young, they would often spend Saturday mornings at Oma's. Nelly would do crafts with them, dance with them and allow them to eat Cheesies and ice cream until they burst, and then return them to Roland and Cheryl's. Nelly knew everyone and everyone knew Nelly. You could be at Murray's Restaurant, at the grocery store or at just about anywhere in and around the Woodstock area and she would run into people she knew. She was interested in everyone and wanted to know how they were doing and what they were up to. Before Nel's career in farming began she was a nurse. And with that in the early 1970's she helped the local doctor in de Meije bring several children into the world as a midwife. And then once the local veterinarian got wind of that, she also helped him out with several cesarean sections on cows. Nelly was raised on a small farm in de Meije, Holland, so she had some idea of what she was getting into when she and Roel started farming in Holland in 1969. They divvied up what they were each responsible for to run a successful farm early on in their business venture. Roel looked after the cows and did the field work and Nel fed the calves, looked after the bookkeeping, raised the kids and made sure dad had his 3 square meals per day. This recipe for success served them very well when they immigrated to Canada in 1977 and remained with some changes occuring when Roland became an integral part of the farm in the late 1980's and most recently the addition of Jonathan to the team at Roelridge Dairyfarm. She was also happy and proud of the success in the respective careers of Wendy, Pieter, Cheryl, Christina, Miranda and John. Nelly was quite busy with the farm; however, she did make time to be part of a farm women's organization, the CPB in Holland in the 1970's and later she was a director for the NB Federation of Agriculture and involved with the local (Woodstock area) dairy committee during the 1980' and 1990's. She was a mainstay with PALS at the St. Paul's Presbyterian Church during the 1990's and a member of the Ladies Guild at St. Paul's also. And for many years she helped with coffee time after church at St. Paul's. If all of that was not yet enough, she hosted hundreds of students over the years at Roelridge Dairyfarm. Schoolbus loads of children would visit the farm where Nel would explain how a dairy farm worked and that milk does not just "appear" at the grocery store. She explained the importance of nutrition, reproduction, animal welfare and loved to show off her calves, and of course the students loved the animals; although many had to get used to "the smell in the barn". Over the years we can only estimate the hundreds, if not thousand(s) of calves she raised. Speaking of hosting: over the years both Roel and Nel hosted many friends and family at the farm. Some for a few days and some for several weeks. Nel didn't bat an eye. She provided meals, beds and entertainment. As one nephew put it, "I remember tante Nel as a sweet, hospitable, firm aunt. You knew you were welcome at the farm, with the knowledge that the business of farming had to continue, but she was a loving aunt." Although those of us who know and love Nelly, we will miss her terribly, but we know that she is at peace with the Lord and she is enjoying heaven. Visitation will be held on Sunday April 2, 2023 at the Carleton Funeral Home, 337 Lockhart Mill Road from 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Service will be held on Monday April 3 at 11am from the Carleton Funeral Home Chapel, Interment in Bedell Cemetery at a later date. Bob was predeceased by his parents, stepfather, Ronald Reeleder, sister, Louise Page and her husband Raymond, brother-in-law Richard Trafford, and nephews Gregory Trafford and Peter Kelly. He will be sadly missed by his sister, Diane Trafford, nieces and nephews, Linda (Brian) Kilpatrick, Cynthia Hines, Granville (Carrie) Page, Janice Page, Rayma (Dan Petrie)Veniot and Steven (Janice) Trafford and their families. Also saddened by the loss are brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne (Sharon) Kelly, Walter (Cheryl) Kelly, Sheila (Gladwyn) Piper and Judy (Ken) Bertin and their families. Bob's most favorite place to be was at the cottage on North Lake. Whether it be in a boat, on his four wheeler, or in his truck cruising the woods for an "elusive forest chicken". Chores around the yard were the best for him when his grandchildren were at his side, and driving the boat or four wheeler were the most enjoyable with a grandchild on his lap. 1050 | Obituary: James Oliver Salmon 1928-2018 James "Jim" Salmon, 90, peacefully died August 18, 2018, at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home, Saint John, NB. Jim is survived by his two children, Leslie Johnston (Patrick) of Bedford, NS and Larry Salmon (Luan) of Saint John, NB; his sister, Pauline Duff (Bill) of Sussex and his four grandchildren, Vicky and Becca Johnston and Zoë and Zachary Salmon. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Jean, his brother, Arnold and his sister, Hazel. Jim was born in Debec, NB, June 19, 1928, in a house with no electricity. Jim was a devoted family man. He took his family to Portland United Church every Sunday. Jim’s passion for music led him to being in charge of the church sound system, recording the service every week for those that were unable to make it to church. He enjoyed taking his family on trips, especially PEI and Florida. He shared his love of hunting and fishing with his son, Larry. Jim retired from NBTel after an impressive 45 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed travelling across North America with Jean by his side in their white Cadillac. In his younger years, Jim enjoyed boxing, hockey and softball. In his later years, he traded his gloves, hockey stick and bat for his new obsession, golf! He was always the first one on the golf course as soon as the sun came up, and took pride in playing over 100 rounds of golf each season, reducing the cost to an impressive $3/round. Jim was always willing to help out anyone in need. He and Jean regularly volunteered their time at Romero House and he could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. After his stroke, Jim could often be seen driving around Milledgeville in his electric wheelchair, with his orange flag waving and his trusty camera in his pocket. He loved taking pictures of everyone he knew, but most especially his grandchildren. Jim was able to enjoy living on his own until the impressive age of 89, however, he could not have done that without the special and loving care from Jennifer Lutes. Jennifer cared for and loved Jim as if he were her own father, for which the family is extremely grateful. Jim lived out the remainder of his time at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home, where he was cared for by exceptional staff. There will be visitation on Wednesday, August 22, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 23 at 11:00 am at Portland United Church, 50 Newport Crescent, Saint John, NB. 1052 | Obituary: Jan Elizabeth Good 1950-2020 It is with great sadness that my sons and I announce the passing of my wife, and their mother, Jan Good (Whitehouse) on April 18, 2020. Jan was born in Bath, N.B. on March 4, 1950. She grew up in Juniper, N.B. and attended schools in both Juniper and Florenceville before moving to Fredericton. There, she worked for the provincial civil service for 25 years, holding various positions. During her working life I was often on the road in the trucking industry, leaving her to largely raise our two boys. Throughout the years there were many workdays she found a way to make it to work on time despite a 6 a.m. hockey practice. Fortunately, our second son Aaron took up music. Jan certainly appreciated the warmer temperatures of concert halls over hockey rinks. Jan retired early with kidney issues, but that did not slow her down. She was active in the Kidney Foundation, Fredericton Music Festival, and had creative passions for gardening and sewing. She also built an online following designing doll clothes, sharing them on her website Great North Woods Designs. Nick, Aaron and I consider ourselves to be the spokes on a wheel, with Jan the hub that held us together. Because of the passion Jan had for our family, Christmas was the highlight of our year. Jan was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Grace Whitehouse (Cummings) and in-laws Quentin and Juanita Good. Jan is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Chuck, our sons Aaron of Toronto, Nicholas of Hanwell, daughter in-law Shannon (Chessie) and granddaughter Florence and grandson Taylor. She is also survived by a very special and loving sister Jill, her husband Raymond French together with nephews William and Ian. She is also survived by brother-in-law James Good and sister-in-law Francis Good, their daughter Karen Dobblesteyn and her children Olivia and William. Also included are numerous cousins in our extended family. A very special thank you to Dr. Pawsey and all the doctors and nurses at 4NW. Jan was treated like family, receiving the utmost care and respect during her 4-month stay at the DECH. For those who wish, donations may be made to organizations Jan was particularly fond of, the Kidney Foundation or the SPCA. Arrangements are being handled by McAdam’s Funeral Home. There will not be a public visitation or funeral. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. http://www.mcadamsfh.com/obituaries/145834 | WHITEHOUSE, Jan Elizabeth (I15025)

1055 | Obituary: Jean Crain 1938-2019 Jean CrainWith a mixture of sadness and relief we announce the death of Jean Crain (Demerchant). Jean fought a long, eight-year battle with Dementia. Only when we reflect on all that she was as a spouse, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, co-worker, Christian, do we realize how much she lost to this disease. The loss of her home and independence, of her ability to help out and to speak, left her so much less the woman who was known and loved by so many for so many years. Even still, she continued to the end to be a person who endeared herself to others. While living with her Sons, Kevin (Rhonda) and Alden (Tracey), she attended the Beechwood(member) and Midland Baptist Churches, where she was loved to the end. She was also a loved member of a Small Group that met in a home in Midland. Even when unable to speak, she communicated her love to all who visited her. The staff at Wauklehegan Manor, where she spent the last 3 months of life, and to whom we are extremely grateful for such compassionate care, told stories of Jean dancing with them and trying to scare them and just being fun to have around. Jean was an independent woman. Over the years she worked as a mail carrier, in a paper bag factory in Bowmanville, ON, for McCain Foods, as a cook at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brantford, ON, and at Perth and Bath Hospitals (retiring from Bath). Jean cooked in camps on the oil rigs and saved enough money to build her house on the McElroy Rd. She will be remembered as a wonderful Mother by her 3 sons, Allison (Janet), Kevin (Rhonda) and Alden (Tracey). She was a wonderful Grandmother to 6 grandchildren- Jadon (Patricia), Julie (Mark), Brydon, Jake, Cameron and Jackline. She is remembered dearly by 3 surviving siblings- Donald Demerchant (Carol-Anne), Betty Lavigne and Carl Demerchant (Sharon). She was loved by many nieces and nephews. Jean is predeceased by her parents Milledge and Mona Demerchant, Brothers Milledge, Malcolm and Richard, Sisters Iris, Cora, Evelyn and Eileen. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Giberson Funeral Directors. Visitation and funeral will be at the Beechwood Baptist Church. Visitation is Tuesday, 3-5 and 6-8. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm from the church. Pastor Brian Wortman will officiate. The interment will be in the Holmesville Free Will Baptist Cemetery. Donations made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada would be appreciated. www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca (506) 392-1115 https://www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca/obituaries/141181 | DEMERCHANT, Jean Marie (I19635)

1056 | Obituary: Jean H. DeMerchant 1939-2023 Jean Helen (Crain) Demerchant passed on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 peacefully into heaven's portals from her home in Florenceville-Bristol. Jean was born in Beechwood, N.B. on November 6, 1939, to the late Barry and Helen (Post) Crain. She is also predeceased by three brothers: Barry Jr. and wife Jean, Clarence and wife Laura, Kenneth, and sister-in-law Debbie. Jean was the only daughter in a family of five brothers, which is probably why she grew to be mighty in will and character despite her petite stature. Jean is survived by her husband Robert, son Brent (Connie) and daughter Cindy (Lew) Denny; grandchildren Nathan (Pamela) Denny, Shane (Michelle) Demerchant, Jenna (Clay) Brink, Colby (Jessica) Demerchant and Matthew (Melissa) Denny; great-grandchildren Zachary, Nicholas, Logan, Zane, Arya, Kolten, Kowen, Taylor, Lyla, Evangeline, Miller, Luke and Rory; brothers Darryl (Gloria) and Murray Crain, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jean met Robert (Bob), the love of her life and loving husband of 63 years, in 1958. They were married in Oshawa, Ontario and lived the first 9 years of their wedded life there. They welcomed two children into their home: Brent Robert in 1960 and Cynthia Lynn in 1961. In Oshawa, and upon their return to N.B., Jean made her home a welcome haven for one and all. She was a conscientious employee of NBTel (switch board operator), McCain Foods and later the Bath Hospital, retiring in 1990. Jean loved her family with an immense love - showering them with affection and approval. She demonstrated her love with ample supplies of the best doughnuts EVER made and pies that could only be described as heavenly. She loved life and took advantage of every opportunity to live it to the fullest. She loved camping, snowmobiling and biking, playing cards and soaking up the sun. Jean was dedicated to her church and Lord - believing that Jesus made a difference in her life. Jean was surrounded by those who love her during her 5 months of palliative care. Jenna, Melissa, Cindy and Connie lovingly attended to her with the help of Gloria, Debbie and Carol, who became like daughters to her. Her family is more than appreciative of the fantastic care provided by the Extra-mural nurses and Kindred Care home workers. Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Monday, May 15, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 2 p.m. at True North Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Palmer officiating. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to True North Baptist Church or the Mineral Cemetery. https://www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca/obituaries/170236 | CRAIN, Jean Helen (I19636)

1084 | Obituary: Joy C. McAffee 1941-2021 It is with great sadness that the family of Joy Corinne McAffee of Lower Knoxford wish to announce her passing, which took place peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at her home, with her loving family by her side. Joy was born March 24, 1941 in Woodstock NB and was the daughter of the late Arnold and Doris “Ivy” Nason. She was also predeceased by her sister Elaine Purington and three brothers; Richard, Samuel and Roderick Nason. This dark-haired beauty with hazel eyes grew up in Richmond Corner. Though shy, she was an excellent student and managed to finish high school, by staying with her older sister Elaine, to attend school in Geary and hitching a ride into town with a neighbor to finish her high school education in Woodstock. After graduation, she entered the nursing program in Woodstock, achieving top marks and acting as editor of her class yearbook. It was during this time that met her future husband, Jack McAffe, introduced by a mutual friend. After graduating from nursing, she and Jack were married, settled into an apartment in Woodstock, and started a family. When the opportunity came to buy a farm in Knoxford, though she had never intended to be a farmer’s wife, she willingly made the move. After two additional children joined the scene, she took a break from nursing, but couldn’t abandon the career she loved forever. When her youngest was two, she went back into nursing, and enjoyed a 32 year career which included serving at the Bath and Woodstock hospitals. Following her hospital work, she was hired as an Extra-Mural nurse in the earliest years of this program, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Joy loved to travel and had the chance to see many parts of the world. Trips to the Bahamas, Scotland, England, Wales and The Soviet Union with nursing friends provided treasured memories. During retirement, she continued to explore many parts of the US, such as Texas, Louisiana, and Tennessee on bus tours with her husband. She even traveled to western Canada while on a trip with her mother. She was a big supporter of her family, attending many, many concerts and dances which featured her husband Jack, daughter Tammy and son-in-law Gary, and countless basketball, baseball and hockey games in which her children and grand-children played. She was also an avid Raptors fan and could recount many facts about her favourite basketball team. Joy is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jack, who was her best friend and best nurse! She also leaves behind three children, Tammy Morris (Gary), Carla McAffee, and Jeffrey McAffee (Sharron); five grand-children, Tyler and Tess Feeney (Tibor), Jacob, Katie and Jack David McAffee; one great-grandson, Roland Brooks; two sisters, Susan Chase (Maitland) and Connie Nason (Ron) as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family. She is also survived by her beloved Maltese, Sophie, who never left her side. The family would like to thank Dr. David Bell as well as Extra-Mural for their excellent and compassionate care throughout the years. Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 11am-1pm. Respecting Covid-19 regulation, facial masks, proof of vaccination and government issued ID are required for entry. A private funeral service will be held in the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel. The interment will be in the Lower Knoxford Cemetery. Donations made to DunRoamin Stray and Rescue or the Carleton County Animal Shelter would be appreciated. www.gibersonfuneraldirectors.ca (506) 392-1115. | NASON, Joy Corrine (I13001)

1095 | Obituary: June Winnifred Greer (nee Wiley) passed away at the River View Manor in Bath, NB Thursday, September 2, 2021. She was born in Divide NB, on June 11, 1942 to parents Jennie May Wiley (ne Currie) and Don Wiley and is survived by her four daughters Winnifred (Carl Marchand), Maggie (Willis White), Jennifer (Rodney McQuade) and Heather (Kevin Stockall). Her grandchildren, Jacob & Matthew McQuade, Logan, Althea & Greer Guest, and Paige & Brooke Stockall and her sister, Ferne (Arden Dingee). June was predeceased by her loving husband, Grenville Spence Greer, and her brother Wesley Frederick (Freddy) Wiley. June graduated from Carleton County Vocational School in 1961 and took a position at McCain Foods in the accounting department. Shortly after meeting Grenville at her sister’s wedding, the two were married and began life together September 26, 1964. They were married 40 years and had four daughters. June loved her children, sons-in-law and the grandchildren that followed. She shared that love in her words, hugs, kisses and smiles and so very often in the enormous amounts of home baked brown bread, apple pies, cookies, pickles and jams that she showered upon her family. Her example was well set; to this day her children and all her grandchildren cook, bake and make preserves. June instilled in her children the need for balance in this life. A healthy lifestyle with exercise and proper food was important, but you also need to take the time to rest from work and to treat yourself in the moment. Although she did not imbibe often, June enjoyed a splash of Baileys in her coffee or a cold Budweiser and she and dad were often seen cutting a rug at the local jamborees and taking in events like the Irish Festival in the Miramichi. When her kids were out the door and embarking on their own adventures, June took the opportunity to do something she always wanted to do: nurse. Fulfilling that life- long dream, she began working at the River View Manor. She loved working there, and her co-workers loved having her there. Who knew that shortly after her retirement the manor would become her home, but who better to provide for her care than her work family - the people who already knew her well. ‘June Bug’, as she was affectionately known at the Manor, has been a constant presence there since 2013 and she will be greatly missed. We love you mom, ma mere, Grammy June, June Bug! Until we meet again. Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 5-8 pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 6, 2021 at 11:00 am from the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Robert LeBlanc will officiate. Interment will follow in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Glassville. 1099 | Obituary: Kathleen (Kay) M. Hatfield 1923-2015 HATFIELD, KATHLEEN MARGARET (PALMER) - Kay Hatfield died on Saturday, February 28, 2015 in her 92nd year, at the Upper River Valley Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Donald and Hazel (Crandlemire) Palmer. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frederick; brother, Joseph; son, Robert, and niece, Jill Palmer. Kay was born at home in Avondale, NB, on June 25, 1923. Throughout her life, she carried fond memories of her early childhood and school days in this small community. The lessons she learned living on a farm, especially during the depression years, equipped her well for the challenges and opportunities that life would offer. She completed Grade 8 at the Avondale School, and then boarded in Hartland in order to attend High School. It was here that she met her future husband, Frederick. After graduation in 1940, she attended Provincial Normal School for one year, returning to Carleton County to teach in Avondale and Victoria Corner. Following her marriage to Frederick on August 11, 1945, she taught for one year at Hartland Superior School. It was our Mother's childhood dream to 'keep house' and have a family. In December 1946, she began to fulfil this dream when she and Frederick moved into the house behind the stone wall at the end of the world's longest covered bridge, and she gave birth to her first child. Over the next 12 years, 5 more children were added to the family. She devoted herself to providing a well-managed, nurturing home environment, and took joy in surrounding it with the beauty of many flower beds. The nasturtiums that lined the front walkway were her signature flower. Kay enjoyed opening her home to others. There was always an offer of good food and sincere, gracious hospitality. The grandchildren were particularly welcomed and encouraged to visit often. Just as she had done with her own children, she held high expectations for them, supported them in all their activities, and loved them unconditionally. Despite her busy home life, she recognized the importance of supporting her community and always made time to do so. She was a Life Member of the I.O.D.E., Girl Guide Commissioner, long-time volunteer at the Carleton County Music Festival, member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion, Potato Blossom Festival volunteer, member of the Carleton County Historical Society, Meals on Wheels volunteer, and volunteer at the Central Carleton Nursing Home. Kay was a faithful member of the Hartland Baptist Church, where she served on various committees, as well as teaching Sunday School and providing leadership in Youth programs. She actively supported Baptist Mission work, first in Avondale and then in Hartland, and was a Charter Member of the Lightbearers W.M.S. at the Hartland Baptist Church. Kay is survived by five children: Brian (Connie), Michael (Martha Musgrove), Rachel (Allan Nesbitt), Bruce (fiancée Lucie Richard), and Mary; eight grandchildren: Christy (Toby Grant), Marnie (Patrick O'Donnell), Sarah (Jeff Ebbett), David Nesbitt (Rachel), Andrew Nesbitt, Joel Nesbitt, Nicole Hatfield, and Kelsey Hatfield; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Audrey Palmer, brother-in-law, Clinton Hayward, cousin, Evelyn Long, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Britton Funeral Home of Hartland where visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral will be held at the Hartland Baptist Church on Friday, March 6, at 2PM. Flowers are welcomed, but memorial contributions to the Lightbearers W.M.S., Hartland Baptist Church, or the Greenwood Cemetery in Hartland would also be appreciated by the family.
