| 701 | Obituary: It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Donald Ralph McBride on January 24, 2020. Donald was born in Woodstock, NB on March 29, 1930. He is survived by his children, Donald (Verna), Richard, Tracy (Thomas) and Drew (Judy); granddaughter, Sarah; great-grandsons, Samuel and Levi; several brothers; and his longtime friend, Emily. Don loved the outdoors and was proud of his military service. He was an amazing father who taught his children much and will be deeply missed. | 702 | Obituary: It is with deep sorrow that the family of Malcolm Cammack announces his passing at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB, on Sunday, March 31, 2019. Born on January 31, 1943 in Bath NB, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Cogswell) Cammack of Centerville, NB. Malcolm will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Sandra (Kirkpatrick) Cammack. Malcolm graduated from Centerville Regional High School in 1960, and Maritime Forest Ranger School in Fredericton in 1966. He worked for NB Power for ten years, and as an electrician at UNB’s Fredericton Campus until his retirement in 1998. He had a number of canine companions over the years. He truly enjoyed puttering in his backyard shop, bowling, being a member of the legion, an amateur DJ at the Canadian Order of Foresters, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling from his camp near Glassville, and travelling around with a group of RV campers in the summer. Malcolm enjoyed his retirement immensely, attending Speedway 660 in the summer, on weekends and spending winters golfing and playing shuffleboard in Florida. At Malcolm’s request, there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place. | 703 | Obituary: It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Margaret Daisy (Wright) Tompkins on October 12, 2014. A sharp, witty, personality, avid gardener, lover of animals and music, faithful church member, and devoted mother, Margaret passed peacefully in her home with her family by her side. Born in Muniac, Margaret was a daughter of the late John and Alice (Broad) Wright. She was married at an early age to Frank R. Tompkins, a prominent lumberman owning several sawmills wherein she helped with the crew while raising six children. Her life was rich and dynamic, entirely devoted to family, home, and community. She was a past member of the Bath Hospital Auxiliary, Bath Women’s Institute, Bath United Baptist Church, and the Missionary Society. She became known as the “Candy Lady” when she decorated her car with live flowers for the annual Labour Day parade and threw candy to the waiting children. She clerked at Gallagher’s General Store and Roy Hawkes until the age of 80. Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband Frank Tompkins; sisters Irene, Ruth, Cassie, Nina; brothers William, Willard, and Fred; sons Franklin, William and his wife Marjorie; grandson Michael Tompkins. She is survived by daughters Dianne, Ruth (Linwood) Giberson, Marilyn (Darrell) Chandler; son Wayne (Mary) Tompkins; daughter-in-law Edith Tompkins; sister-in-law Mary Wright; 21 grand children, 29 great grand children and 5 great great grandchildren. Gary passed away peacefully in Fort McMurray at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre on Friday, May 19, 2017. Gary was born September 26, 1949, the son of David Antworth and the late Geraldine (Foster) Antworth. He leaves behind two daughters and a chosen daughter, Andrea Antworth, Fort McMurray, AB, Amanda Kennedy (Scott), Fort Murray AB, and Stephanie Bruder (Eric) Pincher Creek AB. Gary was a loving and proud Papa/Grampie to eight grandchildren, Kasey, Aleah, Helena, Alisha, Savannah, Tristan, Keagan and Kayden; four brothers, Brian (Melanie), Rosedale, NB, Dale (Doreen), Rosedale, NB, Kevin (Wanda), Rosedale, NB, Brent (Lisa), Debec NB; sister, Dianne, Rosedale, NB; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. | 705 | Obituary: It is with great sadness that the family of Annetta Mabel Dykeman Ebbett (Anne), widow of Harry Edwin Ebbett announces her passing in her 93rd year which occurred on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Upper River Valley Hospital , Waterville surrounded by her family . Born April 15, 1927 (Good Friday) at the Victoria Public Hospital, Fredericton, NB, Anne was the eldest child of Hedley David Dykeman and Mabel Irene (Matthews) Dykeman. She was a loving wife for 60 years, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Anne and her parents and siblings lived in Biggar Ridge and she attended eight grades of school there and graduated from the Juniper Superior School, Provincial Normal School and the University of New Brunswick. She taught for many years in Northern Carleton County: Divide, East Glassville, Bristol, Upper Kent, Bath and Florenceville. Anne had many happy memories of the students she taught.In 1953, Anne married Harry E. Ebbett of Upper Kent and lived in Upper Kent for many years. Anne is survived by her three children: Emerson Ebbett (Shelley); Stephanie Ebbett-McCarthy (Dave); Rita Ebbett: three grandchildren; Laura Cook (Ben), Martha McIntosh (Phil Feenstra), Cedric McIntosh (Grace Kary) and one sweet little Great Grandson, Thomas Cook; one brother; Perley Dykeman (Marilyn); two sisters, Dorothy Campbell (late Verdell), Beatrice Mary Cattelle (late Dean), Sister-in-Law Charlotte Dykeman; many nieces and nephews. Anne was predeceased by her parents, brother Peter Dykeman and sister Helena Crabbe (late Harold). Anne so enjoyed gardening in her flower beds - she loved flowers and was well known for her beautiful rose beds and in later years, her fabulous display of Day Lilies. Other interests were travelling, especially cruising, with Harry to all points around the globe, nature, wildlife, reading, music, home and family. | 706 | Obituary: It is with great sadness that the family of Dianne Patricia Quinn announce her sudden passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on August 24th, 2021. Born in Bath, NB on February 4th, 1942, to the late Aubrey and Ruby Martin, Dianne’s birth was an unexpected surprise as she followed “older” brother Donald by only a few minutes. The twins (better known as Poppy and Posie) had a combined weight of less than 5lbs and were kept in a shoebox on the oven door for warmth. The legend is they weren’t bathed their whole first year for fear of developing a chill. Although tiny in stature compared to her much taller twin brother Poppy, she always felt and acted as if she was 6′ tall, maintaining her feisty independent nature until the end. A proud, devoted and dedicated mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Posie spent her life caring for her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for chocolate, Tim Horton’s coffee, Mahjong, golf and her most favorite sport, curling. For her birthday this year, her children surprised her with a video message from her idol Brad Gushue, and it was quite a hit. Posie leaves to mourn her children Karyn (Curtis), Kristyn (Randy) and Peter (Connie) all of Saint John; her grandchildren Adam, William, Matthew, Jordan, Allyson, Kimberly; great-granddaughter Aubrey; her beloved twin brother Donald “Poppy” Martin; sister-in-law Marion Wargo; brothers-in-law George Kelly, Buck Quinn (Ida), Allison Quinn (Claudia); special nieces Stephanie, Angela, Beverly, Deana, Oma Lee and many other cherished nieces, nephews and extended family. Predeceased by her husband Peter Frederick Quinn in 1990 and daughter Kimberly Ann in infancy. Posie was also predeceased by her beloved sisters Suzanne and Audrey; brothers Douglas “Dicey” and Dean Martin and son-in-law David Ross. Mom had a great sense of humour and was always up for a laugh. She had specially requested her grand-dogs to be honorary pallbearers, and although she may have been kidding us a little, it can’t be said we didn’t follow directions! Sammy, Jag, Nyota, Ruby, Rudy, Nova, Luna, Zeus, Ander, Braxton kindly all have the honour of escorting Mom to a better place. Our family would like to thank Mom’s wonderful neighbours Judy and Mark Drew and their grandson, Hunter, for everything they did each day to help Mom, enabling her to maintain her independence in the comfort of her own home. Also, a big thank you to the caring staff of SJRH Emergency Department and the kind paramedics who responded to our call. Born June 11th, 1935 in Moose Mountain, he was the son of the late William and Annie (Higgins) McSheffery. He was also predeceased by 3 brothers; Joseph (Patricia), Raymond and John McSheffery and 2 sisters; Anne Kilfoil (Harold) and Margaret Lavoie (Ferdinand). Gerald lived nearly his entire life on the McSheffery homestead in Moose Mountain. As a young adult he worked in farm labour for local and area farmers. For some years he operated heavy equipment in wood harvesting and road building operations for HJ Crabbe and Hilton Crain. He worked for NB Dept. of Highways as an equipment operator for 21 years until his retirement in 1995. Gerald enjoyed life at the mountain, his front porch view and had many enjoyable pastimes; working in his woodlot, gardening, snowmobiling, camping and maintaining his property. He loved music and for many years enjoyed dancing with his life partner. He enjoyed the outdoors and had many trade skills. He worked faithfully in his church community and the Knights of Columbus and his faith sustained him through the rough patches in life. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and spent his entire lifetime providing for and supporting the people in his life. He shall be greatly missed. Visitation will be held from L.R. | 708 | Obituary: It is with great sadness that the family of Harry Edwin Ebbett, husband of Annetta "Ann" (Nee Dykeman) Ebbett announces his passing which occurred on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Hotel Dieu Hosptial, Perth Andover. Born on May 4, 1919 at Middle Simonds, NB he was the oldest son of the late Earle and Gladys (Underhill) Ebbett. Harry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Harry lived in Bristol and graduated from Bristol High School in 1935. He worked with his father in farming and lumbering until enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1940. He spent 5 years on Convoy duty on the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Demobilized in October 1945. Then he purchased a farm at Upper Kent and spent over 40 years farming. Harry has been a member of the Board of Directors of Carleton Co-op Ltd since 1949, a member of Carleton County Council for 4 years, Past President of the Florenceville Royal Canadian Legion Branch #37 and a founding member of the National Farmers Union. Harry married Annetta Dykeman of Juniper NB in 1953. They have 3 children, Emerson Ebbett of Calgary AB, Stephanie Ebbett- McCarthy (David) of Upper Kent, NB and Rita Ebbett- McIntosh (Dale) of Glassville, NB; 3 grandchildren, Laura McIntosh of Glassville, NB, Martha McIntosh of Vancover, BC and Cedric McIntosh of Fredericton, NB; 1 brother, Claude Ebbett (Els) of Sackville, NB; 2 sisters, Letha Gaunce of Upper Kent, NB and Alice Cogswell (Fred) of Perth Andover, NB and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Born on July 6, 1943 in Creston, BC, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Ellen (Reed) Haines and wife to Milford Armour. Mary Ann is survived by husband, Milford; 7 children, Ronald Haines (Natalie), Ellen Armour, Monica Armour, Virginia Van Horne, George Armour, Greg Armour (Darcy) and Debbie Beckwith (honorary daughter); 5 grandchildren, Joel Haines, Brody Lyon, Colton, Gabriel and EmmaRose Van Horne; Siblings, Beverly Haines, Barbara Swim, Rebecca Haines, Daniel Delano and Karen Arton and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members. She was predeceased by her mother and father, her beloved cousins, Charlotte Soloway and Richard Haines, various other family members, and special friends. "Auntie Mare" was well known for being a mother/auntie to her beloved Dale Soloway (her three boys ,Tim, Evan and Corey boy) also to Robyn and Bobby and their children, Sarena, Stephen, Luke, and Micah. Then came the next generation of nieces and nephews arrived Jessica (grand nephew, Jackson) and Darcy Pack, and Tyler How (grand nephew, Johnathan). Auntie Mare extended her love and strength to many generations and is loved by all who knew her. The door was always open to everyone in the neighbourhood and beyond. She loved her animals (horses, dogs, humming birds, etc.), country music, playing cards, NASCAR racing, and being a Royal Canadian Legion member. Her booming laugh and cheerful voice let everyone know that she was around. Many stories will be shared for years to come. | 710 | Obituary: It is with great sadness that the family of Terri Lee Kearney announces her passing after a very courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Dr. George Dumont Hospital, Moncton. Terri was born January 15, 1953 in Perth Andover, NB. She was the only child of Frank Esmond Kearney and Eleanor Nina (Maskell) Kearney. She graduated from Bath Regional High School in 1971 and went on to Teachers College in Fredericton, graduating in 1973. Her first teaching position at twenty years of age was at Florenceville Elementary School. She transferred to Bath Elementary for a few years and then finished her career in Florenceville from which after 32 years she retired in 2006. After retiring she continued volunteering at both the Florenceville and Bath Schools and also tutored several students at home. Terri was also very involved at her church where she served in many different capacities. All of her family including her church and school families were very important to Terri. Over the years Terri spent a lot of time in the Hospital. Although she faced many physical challenges during her lifetime she never complained or asked for any accommodations. Terri will be missed by all who knew her. Her passing will leave a large void in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her and having her in their lives Terri is survived by her mother, Eleanor, 2 aunts, Edith Hillman and Leola Kearney; numerous cousins from the Maskell and Kearney families that loved her dearly. He passed away very peaceful at his beloved home in Johnville. Born April 9, 1925 in Johnville he was the son of the late Vincent and Mary (Crain) Kilfoil. Survived by wife Anna (Bell), children Mary (Ed) Leech of Halifax, Gerry (Donna) of St. John’s, NF, Vincent (Brenda) Bristol, Pat (Andrea) Johnville, Michelle (Peter) Noonan, Kathrine (Peter) Wood, Lincoln Pennsylvania, Maria of Amherst, Massachusetts, Mike (Wanda) Osgoode ON, Sean (Corinne) Bath, step son, Mitchell York (Shawn) Bristol, 21 grandchildren, sisters Frances Johnston, Fredericton, Margaret McHarg, Saint John and Murray (Peggy) of New Glasgow, NS. Predeceased by his first wife Joan (Brennan) and brothers William, Raymond, Harold and two infant brothers Clarence and Joseph, nephews Allison and Stephen Brennan and Martin and Eric Kilfoil, as well as several brother and sister in laws. Gerald spent his life doing what he loved most: farming, working in the woods and raising his family. As the children were growing up this often included many family vacations to Prince Edward Island. In later years, he and Anna traveled to Nashville, Branson, New York City, Florida and Ireland. They also visited with family in Newfoundland, Ontario, Pennsylvania and Nova Scotia. His pastimes included gardening, hooking rugs, reading, and taking drives around the countryside to check on all the crops. After lunch he often enjoyed having a nap on the kitchen cot. There was nothing Gerald loved more than hearing all the news from both family and friends and he usually had a few stories to share with anyone who stopped in for a visit. He was truly happy when his children and grandchildren all gathered in the kitchen for a big home cooked meal telling stories and sharing events in their daily lives. Gerald shared a keen interest in genealogy and local history with his siblings. He was very dedicated to the church and interested in the community. Over the years, Gerald volunteered his time to many groups and committees. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Colin Lockhart and the dedicated home care workers, without their care and support Gerald would not have been able to stay where he loved - home on the farm. Allison was born on August 9, 1932, to the late Kenneth and Glenna Stoddard of Foreston, NB. He is survived by his wife Gertrude Avis (White), son Kenneth (Willa), Daughters Heather (Don) and Holly (Keith), 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews as well as 2 sisters, Jenny Lee and Dianne Kearney. Allison was predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Glenna Stoddard, brothers Ronald, Claire, Robert, Dean and Lewis as well as sister Florence. Allison was always working. He loved cutting firewood and split many cords of wood every year. Allison loved hunting and fishing. He gathered fir tips each fall. The woods were his favourite place to be. Allison had three great loves... his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his wife Avis and his children and grandchildren. He was a true Christian and gentleman who was loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Barbara now joins her beloved husband of 58 years, Cedric Ritchie (1927-2016). Devoted mother of Heather Walton and Kim Persky (Michael). Proud grandmother of Jana, Eric, Kyla and Kevin Persky; and Courtney Ritchie, Connor and Taylor Walton. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends worldwide. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, and her brother Gilbert. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Barbara grew up on a farm before leaving the prairies to attend the Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing in Alberta. Upon graduation she began her nursing career in Lethbridge where she met her husband Cedric. After marrying in 1957 they moved to Toronto. Despite leaving the West, Barbara remained in contact with her classmates and never failed to attend her reunions when circumstances allowed. Family and friends meant the world to Barbara. She had a wide network of friends developed through her extensive travels and active lifestyle. She enjoyed golf, fitness classes and curling at the Donalda Club, and was an avid skier. Barbara loved spending time in the Laurentians with family and friends and particularly cherished Christmases spent in Ste. Adele. She treasured every opportunity to be together. Barbara was a committed volunteer -- active in her church, delivering Meals on Wheels, providing programing for Senior Citizens -- and later in life, a dedicated philanthropist. She believed that everyone should have access to medical care and education, hence her philanthropic priorities focused on medical research, education, and human services. Earlier in 2022, she was honoured for her ongoing support of Fighting Blindness Canada, the Yonge Street Mission, and the Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, where she was an Honorary Trustee. Quick to offer encouragement or words of advice, Barbara was generous with her time and always available for others. She was a vibrant model of commitment, generosity, integrity and love and we will sorely miss her. | 725 | Obituary: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom. Mary Ethel Briggs was born August 2nd, 1931 in Upper Kent. She was the middle child born to Eva and Gordon Saunders. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband Eric, her older sister Desta and her husband Ron MacDougall, also a younger sister Louise Stevens. Mary is survived by a brother Bob (Alta) Saunders and a brother Jack (Dawn) Saunders, and a brother in law Bob Stevens, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom and Dad had been married over 66 years when dad passed away in September 2018. They had three children: Brian, Robert and Lisa (Trevor) Johnston. Four grandchildren: Charles and Maggie Briggs, and Michael and Mallory Thomas. Mary loved children and turned that passion into a teaching career in the NB Education system for over 28 years. One of her first teaching assignments was in Lindsay when she was 18 years old, a one room school house with 40 students in 8 grades. Later she went to teach at Southern Carleton and then finished her career at Centennial Elementary. After retirement she had an opportunity to spend countless hours with her four grandchildren. All of them have great memories of the time spent with Nana on the farm. Mom and Dad loved to travel and we spent many weekends camping around the province, Maritimes and across Canada. They also visited Florida and enjoyed several trips to Las Vegas. Sterling was born November 25, 1933 in Oakland, New Brunswick. He was the son of the late Charles and Edna (Campbell) Carmichael. He was also predeceased by his oldest granddaughter whom he had a special bond with, Kiska Carmichael-Ruff that passed away earlier this year; great granddaughter, Brianna Carmichael; 1 sister, Muriel Palin (William); 1 brother, Ronald Carmichael (Mavis). Sterling Carmichael has lived a lifetime in his 87 years, he started work at McCains in 1959 at .85 cents an hour. Sterling moved up the chain quickly as he was a dedicated hard worker. McCain's was a second family to Sterling. There he met a man named Murray Lovely that requested to work with Sterling as he always showed up ready and willing to do any type of job. Sterling married Wanetta Swim February 21, 1956. Avis was never happier than when she was preparing a big meal for family or friends, working in her garden, square dancing, playing cards or going camping with good friends. She worked on the family farm, side by side with her loving husband, for many years, and later in life for Roy Hemphill and Sons, turning out scores of a variety of brush handles. Avis spent over ten happy years in the Hartland area with family and friends before moving to Fredericton in 2011. The staff at both Brunswick and Thomas Hall, Shannex Parkland, shared many a laugh with Avis during her five years with them. As they so frequently related, her quick wit and unexpected retorts kept them chuckling. Avis spoke often of the love and kindness staff showed to her. She always loved going to watch Misty, when she was younger, riding and getting angry at her coach because "he was too hard on her". She loved to watch Brandon play football and Bailey show jumping. She was cherished by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Ian Brown of Carleton Place, Ontario and Laurie and Ken Neal of St. Louis, Missouri. She was known as “Gwamma”, “Brumbra”, “G-Ram”, “Girlfriend”, “Queen of Bristol” and “Marianne” to her grandchildren Leah, Kenny (Elise), Ashley (Ryan), Erica, Leslee, and Drew who worshipped her as much as she did them. She had a way of making each of them feel like the most special person in the world and her abundant love for them will live inside each of them for all time. To her great-grandchildren, Connor and Paxton she was known as “Belle”, beautiful one. Watson of Centreville, NB announces that her death occurred on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville. She was born on November 19, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Leslie and Myra (Robinson) Barclay. She was also predeceased by her infant son Herman and her sister Dorothy Farquhar. Following her graduation from Andover Grammar School Hazel attended the L. P. Fisher Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946. After graduation she worked for a total of three years as a nurse at the hospitals in Woodstock and Blacks Harbour. Hazel married David Watson on June 29,1949 and they eventually settled in Centreville where they spent most of their married lives. Hazel played a vital role in the kitchen of the Green Lantern Restaurant (which the family ran from 1953 until 1967) turning a skilled and loving hand to everything from peas to pies. She worked as a nurse at the Northern Carleton Hospital in Bath from 1964 until her retirement in 1988, providing her tender loving care to countless patients, especially moms and their new babies. Retirement didn’t mean “stop” to Hazel as she busied herself with countless activities including gardening, playing cards, attending Women’s’ Institute meetings and functions, family functions, the annual Nova Scotia shopping trip and thus earning the well- deserved handle of “The Road Runner.” She had a special love for her family and thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Hugh was a WWII Royal Canadian Navy veteran, discharged in the summer of 1945. He had a love for learning and studying, and received a Forestry Engineering degree after the war and worked in that field until he followed the call of his faith, and became ordained as a Presbyterian minister. He later became a Professor of Classics and Ancient History at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John, from which he retired. After meeting and marrying Hugh John Flemming Jr. she left nursing to raise her family. She eventually settled in Saint John where she happily spent the remainder of her life devoted to her faith, family, and friends. | 741 | Obituary: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of John Edward Cogswell of East Centreville, NB that occurred at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville on Tuesday, November 29th after a brief stay in palliative care at the age of 85. John was the son of the late Walter and Florence (White) Cogswell of East Centreville. Born September 20, 1937, John attended school in Centreville and then went to study at the Maritime College of Forest Technology in Fredericton. After his graduation, he took a job in St. Croix with Georgia Pacific, later moving to East Centreville to work at HJ Crabbe & Sons for 26 years until his retirement. In addition to his day job, John ran a hobby farm with beef cattle and sheep. His spare time was filled with farm chores. He could "fix" anything with some baler twine! In later life, when unable to farm, his hobbies we're reading, colouring, listing to CBC radio, letting the cat Marmalade in and out multiple times each day and watching "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune". He was an avid Burger King supporter the last few years eating a bacon cheeseburger each day. | 744 | Obituary: It is with much sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of Neeltje (Nelly) Omvlee of Bedell Settlement at the Upper River Valley Hospital on Tuesday March 28, 2023 at the age of 80. Neeltje was born in Holland on April 16, 1942, to the late Frank and Wilhelmina (Mien) Habold. Survived by her husband Roelof, son Roland Omvlee (Cheryl), daughter Wendy Omvlee (Pieter), and her grandchildren, Jonathan Omvlee (Miranda) and Christina Omvlee (John). Survived by her brothers, Brian Habold (Joyce), George Habold (Ina) and John Habold, her sisters, Wil Bijleveld (Daan), Liesbeth Stapper and Nine Spijker (Leendert) and Marian Vanderweiden, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Henk Omvlee, Gerard Omvlee (Ineke) and Hans Omvlee (Ellie) and Wil Beitsma. And of course also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her older brother Rinus Habold and her older sister Pea de Groot, her brothers-in-law, Jaap Omvlee, Jan Omvlee, Ben Omvlee, Fred Omvlee, Jan de Groot, Henk Hoogeveen and Henk Stapper, her sisters-in-law, Fini Hoogeveen, Aaltje Omvlee, Sjoukje Omvlee, Boukje Omvlee and Gezien Omvlee, her nieces Christina de Groot, Anthoinette Omvlee and Simone Stapper. She loved her family and friends immensely. She especially loved the title of Oma to Jonathan and Christina. When Jonathan and Christina were quite young, they would often spend Saturday mornings at Oma's. Nelly would do crafts with them, dance with them and allow them to eat Cheesies and ice cream until they burst, and then return them to Roland and Cheryl's. Nelly knew everyone and everyone knew Nelly. You could be at Murray's Restaurant, at the grocery store or at just about anywhere in and around the Woodstock area and she would run into people she knew. She was interested in everyone and wanted to know how they were doing and what they were up to. Before Nel's career in farming began she was a nurse. And with that in the early 1970's she helped the local doctor in de Meije bring several children into the world as a midwife. And then once the local veterinarian got wind of that, she also helped him out with several cesarean sections on cows. Nelly was raised on a small farm in de Meije, Holland, so she had some idea of what she was getting into when she and Roel started farming in Holland in 1969. They divvied up what they were each responsible for to run a successful farm early on in their business venture. Roel looked after the cows and did the field work and Nel fed the calves, looked after the bookkeeping, raised the kids and made sure dad had his 3 square meals per day. This recipe for success served them very well when they immigrated to Canada in 1977 and remained with some changes occuring when Roland became an integral part of the farm in the late 1980's and most recently the addition of Jonathan to the team at Roelridge Dairyfarm. She was also happy and proud of the success in the respective careers of Wendy, Pieter, Cheryl, Christina, Miranda and John. Nelly was quite busy with the farm; however, she did make time to be part of a farm women's organization, the CPB in Holland in the 1970's and later she was a director for the NB Federation of Agriculture and involved with the local (Woodstock area) dairy committee during the 1980' and 1990's. She was a mainstay with PALS at the St. Paul's Presbyterian Church during the 1990's and a member of the Ladies Guild at St. Paul's also. And for many years she helped with coffee time after church at St. Paul's. If all of that was not yet enough, she hosted hundreds of students over the years at Roelridge Dairyfarm. Schoolbus loads of children would visit the farm where Nel would explain how a dairy farm worked and that milk does not just "appear" at the grocery store. She explained the importance of nutrition, reproduction, animal welfare and loved to show off her calves, and of course the students loved the animals; although many had to get used to "the smell in the barn". Over the years we can only estimate the hundreds, if not thousand(s) of calves she raised. Speaking of hosting: over the years both Roel and Nel hosted many friends and family at the farm. Some for a few days and some for several weeks. Nel didn't bat an eye. She provided meals, beds and entertainment. As one nephew put it, "I remember tante Nel as a sweet, hospitable, firm aunt. You knew you were welcome at the farm, with the knowledge that the business of farming had to continue, but she was a loving aunt." Although those of us who know and love Nelly, we will miss her terribly, but we know that she is at peace with the Lord and she is enjoying heaven. | 746 | Obituary: It is with profound sadness that the children of Orris “Kay” Elizabeth McIntosh mourn her passing. Kay passed on February 10, 2024, at Riverview Manor in Bath, New Brunswick. Kay was born on July 23, 1935 to Samuel Sprague and Tessa “Chapman” Sprague in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick. Kay married her husband Leslie McIntosh on June 6, 1953 in Wicklow, New Brunswick. Kay and Les made their home in Bath, New Brunswick and went on to have four children, Linda, Karen, Janice and Michael. Kay worked at the Northern Carleton Hospital in Bath, New Brunswick for over 40 years in the Central Supply Room. Kay retired in 2005 and continued to work part time in the same role until the hospital closed its doors in 2007. Kay was a loving wife and mother. Her family was of the utmost importance to her and she led by example with her gentle nature. She enjoyed the outdoors and playing Scrabble. An avid Scrabble player she played Scrabble through her 85th birthday, locally with friends and family and around the world on her computer. She loved the outdoors, especially cross-country skiing. She was fond of visiting the Enterprise Road in Plaster Rock where she was born and spending time at the family camp in Glassville in her early married years. She was a loving and caring person as was evident in her relationships with family, friends and co-workers throughout the years. She will be remembered by her family for her meticulous attention to cleanliness (even if your drink wasn’t finished your glass could find its way to her kitchen sink), her love of sweets, her love of travel and her love of bears which she didn’t mind getting up close and personal with. Kay was predeceased by husband Leslie McIntosh, daughter Linda Gaunce, grandson Jacob McIntosh, parents Samuel and Tessa Sprague, sister Joyce Sprague, brother Coral Sprague and sister Glenna Curtis. In addition to his parents, Mark was predeceased by his sister, Connie. Mark was known by many as a happy-go-lucky soul. He would often be found skipping, singing, and laughing where ever he went. Mark and his ability to light up a room whenever he walked into it will be deeply missed by all those who love him. Throughout his 62 years on this earth Mark had lived many different lives from farming, to working out west in the oil fields, and most recently long haul trucking. Born in Woodstock on January 3, 1950 to the late Stella (Shaw) and Lorne York. Eldon was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Barbara (Nye) York, one sister Joyce and one brother Weldon. Eldon was a kind and gentle man, who loved his family dearly. An avid outdoorsman, he could always be found at the salmon pool along the Saint John River. One of his greatest pleasures was hosting the annual salmon fry underneath his carport every summer. He also spent many hours hunting on Ketchum Ridge, sitting hours upon hours waiting for the big one to appear. His love for cutting wood could be seen as you drove by his home, where you would find no less than 6 cord of tree length waiting for the hottest day, to be cut and split. Eldon was a Stationary Engineer by trade and was employed with McCain Foods for 35 years. He also could be found at the arenas and curling clubs, up and down the river valley, making ice, doing maintenance and taking the ice out. Mildred was born at Bath Hospital in New Brunswick on the 28th day of February 1941. She is the daughter of the late Percy D. Hargrove and Eileen Audrey Gee Hargrove. Surrounded at her home, by her loving family; our mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, a friend went to be with her Lord and Saviour on April 8, 2022. In heaven, she joins her father, mother, and brothers Carl and Fred Hargrove. She will be forever loved and missed by her husband of 62 years Edward G. | 752 | Obituary: It is with sadness but also with joy in our hearts that the Lord has taken our Aunt Eleanor at the age of 95, to be with her loved ones in Heaven. She passed away at the Riverview Manor in Bath on August 4th, 2022. She was born Eleanor Nina Maskell on May 4th, 1927. She has lived in Beechwood for most of her life. She loved telling stories of her youth with her mother and her brothers whom she loved dearly. Even in her later years she would tell stories of her young years living beside Maskell Brook. She said that like most people of those days , they never had a lot to eat, regularly stepped onto a cold floor on the winter mornings but nobody seemed to ever complain. When she finished high school in Bath , she taught school for a little while up in the Kilburn area. She even got a job in Deer Island cleaning fish with her sister in Laws. She fell in love and married Frank Kearney on April 19,1947. Their only daughter, Terri was born on Jan 15th, 1953. Anybody that ever met Terri will know what we mean when we say that She and her mother were a very special team . Terri never married and she and Eleanor lived together in the family home until Terri’s passing. Frank and Eleanor built a home in Beechwood up beside Franks brother, Holland in 1961. That is where Eleanor lived until she went to the manor in September of 2021. Her mother , Gussie , moved in with them shortly after and that became the meeting place for all her brothers and uncles and aunts and cousins over the years. Everyone was welcome and everyone was fed very well. Eleanor is survived by her sister in law, Edith Hillman of Woodstock, ON as well and many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Gussie (Broad) Maskell, her husband Frank , her daughter Terri, and her brothers Howard, Percy, Ted and her youngest brother Charles. He loved the Tractor Pulls, and was a fierce supporter of his son, and granddaughters. He loved his dogs, and they loved him back almost as much in return. Wanetta was born January 27, 1939 in Bath, NB to the late Samuel and Bulah Giberson , but was informally adopted by Mildred and Walter Swim at just days old. An only child in her adopted home, Wanetta had 9 biological siblings. Wanetta married Sterling Carmichael February 21, 1956. She was predeceased by her husband Sterling Carmichael, granddaughter Kiska Ruff, and great granddaughter Brianna Carmichael. The two had three children together, Vernon Carmichael, wife Avis Carmichael(Morgan), Rosalee Carmichael, and Leila Giberson husband Thomas Giberson. Wanetta leaves behind five grandchildren, Charlie Carmichael, Travis Ruff (Heather), Brandy Ruff, Christopher, and Sarah Giberson. Great grandchildren Keara Barrett, Emma Ruff, Addison Ruff, Indiana Ruff, Brandy Brown, Deidra Jinson, and Austin Drake. One great, great grandson Arthur Warren Timothy Smith. Wanetta was known for her unmatched work ethic. Beginning with McCain foods at the wage of $0.55/hr Wanetta could sometimes be seen walking the 9km to work a full manual labour shift on concrete floors in uncomfortable shoes. Including on more than one occasion, working to the point of fainting, being taken to hospital, released and returning to the very same shift to complete it. Wanetta loved working at McCain foods and regretted retiring, even with a full pension. There was no end to Wanetta’s countless years that she gave to McCain’s. Visitation will be held from L.R. | 767 | Obituary: Jan Elizabeth Good 1950-2020 It is with great sadness that my sons and I announce the passing of my wife, and their mother, Jan Good (Whitehouse) on April 18, 2020. Jan was born in Bath, N.B. on March 4, 1950. She grew up in Juniper, N.B. and attended schools in both Juniper and Florenceville before moving to Fredericton. There, she worked for the provincial civil service for 25 years, holding various positions. During her working life I was often on the road in the trucking industry, leaving her to largely raise our two boys. Throughout the years there were many workdays she found a way to make it to work on time despite a 6 a.m. hockey practice. Fortunately, our second son Aaron took up music. Jan certainly appreciated the warmer temperatures of concert halls over hockey rinks. Jan retired early with kidney issues, but that did not slow her down. She was active in the Kidney Foundation, Fredericton Music Festival, and had creative passions for gardening and sewing. She also built an online following designing doll clothes, sharing them on her website Great North Woods Designs. Nick, Aaron and I consider ourselves to be the spokes on a wheel, with Jan the hub that held us together. Because of the passion Jan had for our family, Christmas was the highlight of our year. Jan was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Grace Whitehouse (Cummings) and in-laws Quentin and Juanita Good. Jan is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Chuck, our sons Aaron of Toronto, Nicholas of Hanwell, daughter in-law Shannon (Chessie) and granddaughter Florence and grandson Taylor. She is also survived by a very special and loving sister Jill, her husband Raymond French together with nephews William and Ian. She is also survived by brother-in-law James Good and sister-in-law Francis Good, their daughter Karen Dobblesteyn and her children Olivia and William. Also included are numerous cousins in our extended family. A very special thank you to Dr. Pawsey and all the doctors and nurses at 4NW. For the past nine years Jennie was resident to Eden Retirement Villa, Fredericton, NB. Until the days of COVID 19 she enjoyed getting out with family, shopping and having a great meal at a Fredericton restaurant. Born to Agnes (Simpson) and Gordon Laing of West Glassville, Jennie is the last surviving member of the family. She married Arthur J. Giberson on August 17, 1940. They raised 10 children, worked the farm in South Johnville, and created much with limited resources. McAffee 1941-2021 It is with great sadness that the family of Joy Corinne McAffee of Lower Knoxford wish to announce her passing, which took place peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at her home, with her loving family by her side. Joy was born March 24, 1941 in Woodstock NB and was the daughter of the late Arnold and Doris “Ivy” Nason. She was also predeceased by her sister Elaine Purington and three brothers; Richard, Samuel and Roderick Nason. This dark-haired beauty with hazel eyes grew up in Richmond Corner. Though shy, she was an excellent student and managed to finish high school, by staying with her older sister Elaine, to attend school in Geary and hitching a ride into town with a neighbor to finish her high school education in Woodstock. After graduation, she entered the nursing program in Woodstock, achieving top marks and acting as editor of her class yearbook. It was during this time that met her future husband, Jack McAffe, introduced by a mutual friend. After graduating from nursing, she and Jack were married, settled into an apartment in Woodstock, and started a family. When the opportunity came to buy a farm in Knoxford, though she had never intended to be a farmer’s wife, she willingly made the move. After two additional children joined the scene, she took a break from nursing, but couldn’t abandon the career she loved forever. When her youngest was two, she went back into nursing, and enjoyed a 32 year career which included serving at the Bath and Woodstock hospitals. Following her hospital work, she was hired as an Extra-Mural nurse in the earliest years of this program, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Joy loved to travel and had the chance to see many parts of the world. Trips to the Bahamas, Scotland, England, Wales and The Soviet Union with nursing friends provided treasured memories. During retirement, she continued to explore many parts of the US, such as Texas, Louisiana, and Tennessee on bus tours with her husband. She even traveled to western Canada while on a trip with her mother. She was a big supporter of her family, attending many, many concerts and dances which featured her husband Jack, daughter Tammy and son-in-law Gary, and countless basketball, baseball and hockey games in which her children and grand-children played. She was also an avid Raptors fan and could recount many facts about her favourite basketball team. Joy is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jack, who was her best friend and best nurse! She also leaves behind three children, Tammy Morris (Gary), Carla McAffee, and Jeffrey McAffee (Sharron); five grand-children, Tyler and Tess Feeney (Tibor), Jacob, Katie and Jack David McAffee; one great-grandson, Roland Brooks; two sisters, Susan Chase (Maitland) and Connie Nason (Ron) as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family. She is also survived by her beloved Maltese, Sophie, who never left her side. She was born March 25, 1931 in Holmesville, New Brunswick, Canada to parents Leigh and Bernice (Dermerchent) Broad. Joyce married Carl R. Ruff on October 29, 1949 in Canada and they spent a beautiful 71 years together. Mrs. Ruff worked for Goodrich Schools as a custodian for many years. She actually enjoyed many domestic tasks; from general cleaning to folding or ironing laundry, Joyce liked it. But she was known for her talented baking and canning. In her day, Mrs. & Mr. Ruff loved to dance and be on bowling leagues. She was a fan of country music. Above all else, Joyce loved spending time with family; especially the great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. Judson was a veteran of WWII serving as a private. He worked as a Baptist Minister for over 25 years, then went back to school and became a Social Worker, retiring in 1991. She was born in Divide NB, on June 11, 1942 to parents Jennie May Wiley (ne Currie) and Don Wiley and is survived by her four daughters Winnifred (Carl Marchand), Maggie (Willis White), Jennifer (Rodney McQuade) and Heather (Kevin Stockall). Her grandchildren, Jacob & Matthew McQuade, Logan, Althea & Greer Guest, and Paige & Brooke Stockall and her sister, Ferne (Arden Dingee). June was predeceased by her loving husband, Grenville Spence Greer, and her brother Wesley Frederick (Freddy) Wiley. June graduated from Carleton County Vocational School in 1961 and took a position at McCain Foods in the accounting department. Shortly after meeting Grenville at her sister’s wedding, the two were married and began life together September 26, 1964. They were married 40 years and had four daughters. June loved her children, sons-in-law and the grandchildren that followed. She shared that love in her words, hugs, kisses and smiles and so very often in the enormous amounts of home baked brown bread, apple pies, cookies, pickles and jams that she showered upon her family. Her example was well set; to this day her children and all her grandchildren cook, bake and make preserves. June instilled in her children the need for balance in this life. A healthy lifestyle with exercise and proper food was important, but you also need to take the time to rest from work and to treat yourself in the moment. Although she did not imbibe often, June enjoyed a splash of Baileys in her coffee or a cold Budweiser and she and dad were often seen cutting a rug at the local jamborees and taking in events like the Irish Festival in the Miramichi. When her kids were out the door and embarking on their own adventures, June took the opportunity to do something she always wanted to do: nurse. Fulfilling that life- long dream, she began working at the River View Manor. She loved working there, and her co-workers loved having her there. Who knew that shortly after her retirement the manor would become her home, but who better to provide for her care than her work family - the people who already knew her well. ‘June Bug’, as she was affectionately known at the Manor, has been a constant presence there since 2013 and she will be greatly missed. Karen was born in Hamilton, Ontario on August 25th, 1964, and was the daughter of Anna (Shaw) Cullins and the late Dale Cullins. Karen leaves behind her husband, Gary, her beloved son, Adam (Amy) Grant along with two beautiful granddaughters, Anna and Alexa, her mother, Anna, also two sisters Sonia (Dana) Wheeler, Marsha (George Green) Cullins, niece Ashley (Stacy) Rideout, nephews Brandon, Logan & Lyle. Karen was predeceased by her father Dale Cullins. Karen was a very loving and caring soul, she had a big heart and a strong passion for the social work field in which she helped children work through challenges, and provided comfort to families who needed love and support during difficult times. You could always count on Karen when you needed someone to listen, she was a great listener, and would talk for hours. In her spare time, she enjoyed going out with her close friends for supper dates & having a cold glass of wine. She loved four wheeling, playing cards, road trips to the states, reading and playing candy crush on her iPad. She loved her granddaughters and was always so excited to see them visit. | 791 | Obituary: Knowlesville Loses Well Known Lady Mrs. Arthur K. Avery, 80 Had Lived in Community 56 Years Many will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Arthur K. Avery of Knowlesville, Carleton County, on January 24, 1946. Mrs. Avery, nee Alice Ada Day, was born in Chipman, N.B. on April 25, 1866. She moved with her family to Gull River, Minnesota in 1881, was married there in 1888 and in 1890 moved to Knowlesville, where she resided until her recent death. In this time she has become widely known and respected in the community, having taken an active part in community and church work. She was a member of the United Church of Canada. The funeral, at the Knowlesville Church, and conducted by the Rev. William C. Amey, was well attended. The hymns sung were "Sunrise", a solo by Lorne Britton, "Good Night and Good Morning", "Rock of Ages", and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye", by the quartette consisting of Lorne Britton and son, Thomas Patrick and Richard Bramley. The organist was Mrs. Claude Manuel. Pallbearers were grandsons; Robert Avery, Blair Avery, John Avery, Ronald Avery, Garnet Manuel and Gerald Manuel. Her passing leaves to mourn her husband, Arthur K. Avery; four sons, King, at home; Alton in Knowlesville; Cecil, New York; and Earle, Woodstock; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Manuel, Knowlesville; Mrs. Walter Clyde, Burnt Land Brook, N.B.; and Mrs. M. McGinn, New York; twenty-two grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Cobb and Mrs. Mark DeLong of Vallejo, Calif.; and two brothers, Bedford and Chipman Day of San Francisco. Joyce is survived by her companion Deane Crabbe, sons Stephen Lee of Glassville, NB and Duane Lee of Knowlesville, NB, sisters Evelyn Bragdon of Glassville and Jackie McNeill of Saint John, brother Doug Patrick of Ontario, and grandsons Kenneth, John and Ben. The family will receive visitors at Kilcollins Funeral Home, Bath on Friday, November 14 from 7-9 PM. There will be a private family committal at a later date. Leona was born in Woodstock, NB on February 20, 1931, daughter of the late Bentley G. and Velma F. (McBride) Harley. Leona is survived by her son Stephen (Debbie) Avery, daughter Lynn Avery, grandson Rob Avery and grand daughter Debra and several nephews and nieces. Besides her parents, Leona was predeceased by her son Jimmy, husband, Blair, sister, Marion Harley, brothers, Harold Harley, Sister Lillian Clark, Brother Ralph Harley. As a young girl, Leona and her Mom delivered mail by horse and wagon, only to upgrade to using one of the first Ford cars. Leona and Blair owned and operated the Cozy Cabins Motel, side by side, until their retirement in 1973. Leona was an avid hunter, best known as "Leona, Bullseye Avery". Leona was a respected antique dealer, specializing in glass and china. Her hobbies included bowling, in which she excelled in the ladies league, card player, an avid bird watcher/feeder/counter in Carleton County and enjoyed watching hockey, baseball and curling. Steve and Lynn wish to express special thanks to Denise Gray and her nursing staff for their attention and affection to their Mom.
