502 Obituary;

It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn M. Martin announces her passing on February 14, 2022, at the age of 97 years.
Evelyn was born in 1924 to the late John and Estella Derrah in Gordonsville, NB, spending her younger years on the family farm where she developed a lifelong love of animals. She began a career in teaching following her graduation from high school in Florenceville, NB.

She eventually moved to Saint John, NB, where she became a loving wife and mother, grandmother and later, a great-grandmother. She continued her career in teaching at Westfield School, enjoying 23 years with her cherished Grade 1 classes. She loved her students and was always concerned about their wellbeing. In later years, former students referred to her as their favourite teacher.

Among her many accomplishments was her attendance at the University of New Brunswick, graduating in 1974 with her Bachelor of Teaching, while still teaching full time and maintaining a home. She retired from teaching in 1987. During the celebration for her retirement at Westfield School, she was overwhelmed and surprised by the number of people present as well as all of the love, respect and gratitude bestowed on her that evening.

Evelyn was a very special lady who loved her family and ensured that her children were close-knit with each other and with extended family members. She was an amazing role model for her children and grandchildren. She was kind and empathetic, thoughtful and generous, strong and wise, understanding and supportive. She was witty and had a great sense of humour with an infectious laugh. She was sweet, young at heart, outgoing and loved meeting people wherever she went. She made an impression on people and even strangers that she had just met were drawn to her.

She was a long-time member of Lancaster United Baptist Church and was active in Vacation Bible School and The Ladies Auxiliary, where she made many lasting friendships.

Special vacations included a driving trip across Canada in her younger years, an Alaskan cruise, Europe, Walt Disney World, the Grand Canyon and a special celebration of her 80th birthday in Toronto with all of her sons and daughters.

She was a lover of animals, especially cats. She loved flowers and beautiful scenery. Going for long drives was an activity she really enjoyed. She was an avid reader, loved music and classic movies.

In 2008, she moved to Halifax, NS, where she lived in a beautiful condominium, enjoying her favourite views of the harbour. She moved to The Berkeley Retirement Home in 2012 and then to Northwood Ivany Place in 2019.

She will be dearly missed by sons Hal (Ella) Martin of Mattawa, ON and John (Geeta) Martin of Scarborough, ON, her daughter Jan (Mark) Conrod of Bedford, NS, son-in-law Fred Lawton of Saint John, NB, daughter-in-law Lynda Guglick of Etobicoke, ON, grandson Gregg (Mary) Lawton of Saint John, NB, granddaughter Rhonda Lee (David) Curran of Edmonton, AB, great-grandchildren Erin and Avery Lawton, extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Hilston (Bud) Martin, her siblings, her daughter Rhonda Lawton and her son Garth Martin.

A private service will be held at a later date with interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens in Saint John, NB.

For those who wish, donations can be made in Evelyn’s memory to the Nova Scotia SPCA or Hope For Wildlife.

512 Obituary:

1936-2021

After a teaching career of 35 years and his married life of 63 years with Donna Anderson, his soul left us on Sunday, January 31, 2021 to go with his heavenly family - his dad, Burpee, his mum, Muriel and his sister, Linda Orchard.

Leaving behind his beloved children, Don and Cathy in Ontario and Doug and Claudia in Switzerland and the pride of his life, the best ever grandchildren; Sean and partner Leslie in San Franscisco, Sarah, in Ottawa who chose a career in teaching like her Grumpie, and a third marvellous grandson Nicholas in Switzerland. Harold also leaves behind his sister-in-law Monica Reeleder, his brother-in-law Neil Orchard and many awesome nieces, nephews and cousins.

After retirement he enjoyed a much shorter career doing handyman odd jobs for seniors with his friend, Frank Harriet. They were known as the lightening boys.

Besides spending time with his family and many wonderful friends he enjoyed anything to do with boats and trains, his Nashwaaksis Church choir, his volunteering at Pine Grove and at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He loved camping, fishing, square dancing, driving transport trucks, painting, rug hooking, travel and a really good card game.

We will all miss your gentle spirit and the love we shared and we will enjoy the memories we have made together to keep in our hearts. Till we meet again, all my love.

Due to Covid, there will be no service at this time, but instead just write down your favourite memory of him and we will share at a later time. Harold’s choice of charities would be Fredericton Hospice, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or Ronald McDonald House. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com

After a silent battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald George De Long in his 83rd year. October 15, 1938 - February 4, 2021

Survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Mary Bearle (Beer). He will be forever missed by his daughter Roxanne (Roxy) Morrison. Always remembered by his grandchildren Wes (Robin) and Jenna (Sean). He was dearly cherished his 4 great grandchildren Logan, Carter, Mackenzie and Zoey. Missed by his many nieces, nephews and life long friends Margaret and George McHugh. Dad left Glassville New Brunswick a young man and went to Kitchener, Ontario. While ice skating he met my mom. He worked hard at construction for Dunkers and XDG for many years. Two of his bigger builds were the Beachwood dam in New Brunswick and B.F. Goodrich in Kitchener. He loved country music, catching speckled trout from a brook down home, animals and snowmobiling. But when it comes to my mind about my dad is how he kept his vehicles spotless. He knew how to wash and wax a car. To this day he has 1994 Ford Truck that looks like it just came off the assembly line. Dad was particular, and when he became laid off from construction at the age of 54 he became the neighbourhood grass cutter and snow blower. Everyone knew her would do an impeccable job. He became high in demand doing most any job to perfection. Then fixing small engines became his biggest pass time. From all over people would leave mowers new and old in the driveway for him to fix. When I visited I always had to see the newest project and get the details of the problems. By the next visit I was called to the garage to hear it running and see the new paint job. I don’t think there was ever a conversation the New Brunswick didn’t come up. That was home and Dad I know your soul will be forever down east. Thank you to all the friends that dropped treats off and gave words of encouragement . To all of the Doctors, Nurses, PSW Workers, Chris the spiritual provider, Bill a neighbour and friend dad depended on and could count on. Special thanks for being there all the times that we needed you in dad’s final weeks. Special thank you to Rosie the cat dad’s newest companion and best medicine in his final weeks.

A private family service will be held in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Arthur, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Ronald’s service will be video taped and a link will be provided below on Friday February 12, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.

Her talents were appreciated by many. She was a creative artist, and could often be found painting rocks, stones, drift wood, mushrooms, canvases, chairs and anything else she could get her hands on. She also loved making paper maché crafts, creating Halloween costumes, making Christmas crafts and canning food. She was also a seamstress, a gardener, a teacher, and most well known for being an amazing cook. You always knew you could call Avis for a recipe or cooking advice. Day or night, with no need to phone ahead, the door was always open and you would never leave hungry and you most likely would not leave empty handed. She loved to give away her famous pickles and anything else you wanted. She loved having a full house, playing a game of Skipbo and thrived when her kitchen table was full of family, friends and the sound of a guitar filling the room.

The family would like to thank extra-mural for all of their help. A special thanks to nurse Joyce Bourgoin and Dr. Colin Lockhart for their continued care.
Upon her request, there is no wake or funeral service. She was laid to rest at the Glassville United Cemetery on April 19th 2018.

Daniel F. Johnson : Volume 85 Number 2219

Date August 12 1893
County Carleton
Place Woodstock
Newspaper Carleton Sentinel

Glassville - On the forenoon of Sunday 6th, our village cemetery was once more
the scene of a large funeral - the interment of the late Alexander CURRIE of
Knowlesville (Carleton Co.) who quietly passed to his rest the previous Friday,
age 62 years. His dying bed was surrounded by members of his family, and others,
he having resided on the old homestead for the last 25 years - a farmer of no
mean reputation, hard working and industrious, prompt in all his business
arrangements and a friendly and obliging neighbor. He was originally of Scottish
descent, but came to New Brunswick many years ago from Canada. After interment
with service at the grave by Rev. J.K. Bearisto, the company assembled in the
church to listen to the minister of Aberdeen.
