She was also predeceased by her husband, Ivan Ruff; 4 brothers; granddaughter, Jeannie Marie and great great granddaughter, Elaina Marie. Grace was a creative woman, handcrafting many quilts that are treasured by her family and friends. She also enjoyed knitting and cooking. Grace was a dedicated employee and gave over 26 years of service to McCain Foods. She will be missed by all who knew her. Grace is survived by her 4 children, Barbara Curtis (Lloyd), Robert Ruff (Geraldine), Donnie Ruff (Donna) and Janice How (Jonathan); 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Greta Nichol as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family. | 1012 | Obituary: The death of Joan Marie (Ronald) Smith of Saint John, wife of the late Ralph Eldon Smith, occurred on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Woodstock, NB on July 26, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Robert Jardine and Hilda Matilda (Lamont) Ronald. Prior to starting a family, Joan worked as a Radiotherapy Technician at the Saint John General Hospital. An avid volunteer, Joan had various roles and responsibilities with many different organizations; she was the provincial coordinator for the Mastectomy Reach to Recover Program, a Director of the NB Cancer Society, the District Commissioner for Girl Guides NB, Director for Girl Guides Canada, a Director of NBPOH/New Brunswick Children’s Foundation, a member of the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels, The Hospice Shoppe, Imperial Theatre, and she held various positions at Portland United Church. An avid gardener, Joan also established and maintained the Oncology Garden at the Saint John Regional Hospital, and she also loved spending time in her own garden. She loved doing anything outdoors, and spending time with her family and friends. Joan is survived by her daughter, Janet Diamond (John); son, Stephen (Tara); five grandchildren: Jeffrey, Gregory, and Robert Diamond and Rachelle and Alexander Smith; as well she will be missed by extended family members and many very dear and close friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was predeceased by her sisters: Kathryn Holt, Ruth McIntosh, Marjorie Brown, and Muriel McAfee; and brothers, James and David. | 1019 | Obituary: The death of Joseph William McSheffery of Bath occurred on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at his home. Born March 28, 1931 in Moose Mountain, he was the son of the late William and Annie (Higgins) McSheffery and husband of Patricia (Doherty) McSheffery. Joe served in peacekeeping duties in Korea as a Gunner in the 3rd Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in 1954. He was always available to advise family, friends and neighbours on any mechanical issues they had long after he retired. He participated in a wide variety of outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, trips to the camp, fiddle heading, canoeing and snowmobiling. He shared these with his family and close friends Roy & Carol DeMerchant, Bill & Joan Broad, Alan & Sharon DeMerchant, Morley & Eva Oakes and Gordon & Donna Tweedie as well as brothers Gerald (Velda), John (Marie) and Eugene McSheffery. He had an avid interest in airplanes and flying that he shared with Dr. John Lockhart and Bertie McLean. Joe is perhaps best-known for building a 90 hp propeller-powered “air-sled” in the 1970’s and driving it along snowmobile trails and on the Beechwood headpond. Joe was content in later years spending time at home with his wife, Patricia, mowing & plowing his property, working on small mechanical and carpentry projects, doing cross word puzzles, listening to ball games on the radio and enjoying visits with his children & grandchildren, good neighbour Clifford (Mary) Giberson, and friends. Special thanks go to Dr. Colin Lockhart & staff at the former Northern Carleton Hospital and the Upper River Valley Hospital for the kind and thorough healthcare they provided Joseph over the last many years. There, she touched the lives of many students and created long lasting friendships with her colleagues. In later years, she had more time to volunteer in the community and in her church. Her pies and bread were favourites at community events and fundraisers. Additionally, there are few people who have not received a card of celebration or condolence stuffed with colourful confetti. Born April 7, 1925 in Woodstock, NB, Paul was the son of the late Talmage and Leslie (Ross) Foster. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, A. Kathleen Foster; 3 sons, Geoffrey Foster, Kris Foster (Wanda) and Stuart Foster (Trish); 5 grandchildren, Erin Blaney (Corey), Meredith Graham (Nathanial), Kate, Cameron and Elizabeth Foster; and a great grandson, Kian Blaney. After graduating from Teachers College with a First Class Superior designation , Paul became Principal at Juniper High School at the age of 18. By age 28, he emerged as a leading National Insurance Sales Professional, Branch Manager and founder of his own Insurance Brokerage business, P.D. Foster Insurance. He was the first Insurance Professional in New Brunswick to hold both the CLU and AIIC designations. Operating for over 50 years from his office in the small village of Florenceville, Paul gained the trust and respect of a diverse client base in Atlantic Canada. Paul was a church and community leader, serving as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, Rotarian and Mason. For over 60 years, in many capacities, Paul shared his gifts for public speaking, teaching, fund raising, and business management through his involvement in church and community endeavours. Ralph was a member of the International Rotary Club, Saint John Probus Club, Canada Jaycees, Boy Scouts of Canada, Canada Games Organizing Team, Stoney Run Salmon Lodge, president of Saint John Executive Association, chairman of Saint John Transit Commission, president of Moncton Golf and Country Club, director of Riverside Golf and Country Club, vice-president of the New Brunswick Museum, member of the Board of Stewards and Trustees of Portland United Church. His hobbies included salmon fishing, hunting, golfing, skiing and woodworking. His was a full and vigorous life, he always rose to a challenge and he inspired many with his courage. Erma was born in Upper Kent, NB on May 20, 1913. She was the daughter of the late Owen and Bessie (Kearney) Smith. Erma was the wife of the late David D.J. Giberson (1996). She leaves behind her son David R. Giberson and his wife Ruth of Woodstock; grandsons David E.J. Giberson (Tammy Ruff) of Bristol and Matthew A.R. Giberson (April DeMerchant) of Woodstock. Erma was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her sisters Nellie Norell and Verna Burns; her brother Raymond Smith.Resting at Brunswick Funeral Home with visitation on Friday at 7 to 9 pm. Ina is the only surviving member of the immediate family.Glendola was married to Lewis who predecesed her in 1971.Lewis and Glendola had two children, Paul (Linda) and Ruth who married Wesley Miller in July 1970. Ruth passed away by accident on January 1, 1971.Glendola has 3 grandchildren; Brent (Rosslyn), Lyle (Jennifer) and Dwight (Sarah) and 2 who called her "Mammie De"; Jason and Scott Miller. She has 4 great grandchildren, Anna, Emma, Izabella and Alexander. | 1090 | Obituary: The funeral services for Donald Allen Millie were held in the Glassville United Church. Rev. Hilda of Glassville and Rev. Garth Casley, Florenceville, officiated.He was the son of Beatrice (Foreman) and the late John Peter Millie of Bath and Woodstock. A 25-year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, he served in Summerside, P.E.I.; Edmonton, Alberta; Trenton, Ontario; Camp Borden, Ont.; Base Uplands, Ottawa, Ont.; No. 2 Fighters Wing; Grostenquin, France. He retired Sept. 1982 to come home to Fredericton where he bought a taxi and drove for Northside. To his many friends he was known as Car 21. A prayer service was held at York Funeral Home, Fredericton, Rev. Gil Todd officiated. From Fredericton the funeral procession moved to Glassville. After the service in the church, a military honor guard formed an archway and carried the flag draped coffin through to its final resting place. The military service was carried out by 403 Sqn. (air element) CFB Gagetown. He was a native of Glassville. He took his mechanic training at Lawson Motors in 1955-1956 in Fredericton before joining the RCAF. Mr. Bell was born in Glassville on July 4, 1893. He was the son of the late James Bell and Margaret(Campbell) Bell. The greater part of his life was spent in the Glassville area. For the last sixteen years he has resided in Bristol. He is survived by his wife Bernice (Giggie) Bell; three sons, Clarence and Bonar of Oshawa, Ontario and Arthur of Chipman, N.B.; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. William Sweet of Bath, N.B. ; several nieces and nephews; also a daughter-in-law, Barbara of Kitchener, Ontario. One sister Mrs. James Lovely of Glassville predeceased him several years ago. One son, Russell E. Bell predeceased him 16 years ago in Kitchener, Ontario. Funeral services for the late Mr. Bell were held on Monday, December 30, 1968 from his late home to the United Baptist Church of Bristol conducted by Rev. Philip Giberson assisted by Rev. Carl Price. | 1092 | Obituary: The McIntosh family in Glassville (Carleton Co.) were deeply affected when on Saturday the 6th the sad intelligence reached them of the drowning while stream-driving of James GILLESPIE, nephew of Alexander McINTOSH, Robert McINTOSH and John McINTOSH, a promising young man, 21 years of age, who with a brother and three sisters, had been left an orphan 15 years ago, father and mother dying within a few months of each other. ... There were of course different flying reports as to the precise circumstances of James Gillespie's death. This version which your correspondent had from a lady, a connection by marriage of the deceased, seems to be the correct one, although possibly there may be some slight descrepancies even in it. James Gillespie was working on a bridge at Rumford Falls, Maine. On the 4th May, returning home from his work, he crossed a canal on a boom, preceded by a companion who was a short distance ahead. In some way or other in walking along the boom, he lost his footing and was precipitated into the canal, struggeled and sank. His friend missing him returned along the boom and reached the spot of the accident just as the body for a few moments came to the surface. He succeeded in laying hold of it and (with the help of others perhaps) dragged it from the water and had it conveyed to their boarding place. Professional assistance was immediately called in and two medical gentleman, after working away hard for a couple of hours, and applying all the usual restoratives, succeeded in restoring animation and bringing their patient back to life. For two days he hovered between life and death, succumbing to a severe attack of pneumonia. James Gillespie's remains were brought to Bristol by railway train on the morn of the 6th. They were forwarded to Glassville and in the eve. consigned to thie last resting place in our cemetery. Previous to interment an impressive service was held in the Presbyterian church. Rev. She was 89 years of age. Born at Giberson Settlement, N. B., she was a daughter of the late Ralph E. and Mary (Abbott) Giberson. She had lived in Fielding the past sixty years. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held from the home to the Primative Baptist church, Fielding, with Rev. Philip Giberson, Bath, officiating, assisted by Rev. A. Hatfield and Rev. T. J. Gordon. March 14.--Cloverdale lost one of it's oldest residents on Friday night, March 5, In the death of Mrs. Stella Crabb, In her 71st year. Mrs. Crabb, although in failing health for the past year, was about as usual and was visiting her son on Sunday and Monday. She was taken suddenly ill and passed away Friday night at the home of her daughter (Bertie) Mrs. Murvyle Jones, with whom she made he home. Mrs. Crabb was of a kind disposition and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, and her sudden passing came as a shock to her relatives and friends. She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Murvyle Jones and two sons Linus and Curtis, all of Cloverdale. Her husband predeceased her three years ago. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Celia Sansom, Presque Isle, Me.; Mrs. Ida Sproull, of Millville; and five brothers, Clarence, Guy and Hayward, of Hainesville; Cornelius, of Fredericton; and Fred, of Toronto; also 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Cloverdale and surrounding communities were deeply saddened at the passing of John Crabb, at the age of 71 years. He had been in failing health for the past year. Surviving are his sorrowing wife, two sons, Linus and Curtis both of Cloverdale, one daughter, Mrs. Merville Jones of Cloverdale, three brothers, James Crabb of Cloverdale, Everett Crabb of Mars Hill, Me., Willard Crabb of Fairfield, Me., two sisters, Mrs. Linda Adair of Lynn, Mass., Mrs. James Orchard of Cloverdale, seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as a large circle of near relatives and friends. The funeral was held Friday afternoon from the home to the Baptist Church in Cloverdale, and was very largely attended. Rev. 0. W. Shaw officiated. Hymns sung at the house were "Will the Circle be Unbroken" and at the church, "There'll Be No Dark Valley", "No Disappointment in Heaven", "The Eastern Gate" and a solo "The Day Without a Cloud" by L. Anna Marie practised nursing for most of her life, travelling across the United States from Maine to California, from Arizona to Florida and the Virgin Islands and more. Anna Marie also worked at the Northern Carleton Hospital, Upper River Valley Hospital, and the River View Manor. She brought along her extensive experience, professionalism, commitment to a job well done, quick smile and friendly nature. She once served diligently as Mayor of Bath, narrowly missing a return term this year. She served her community and friends in different ways, at different times, including: Cub Scout leader, dedicated church member, parade and multicultural fair organizer, short-order cook, mentor and inspiration to young nurses, and tireless community supporter. She is survived by her son, Mark; 4 siblings, Eileen Kilfoil (Ismail Osman), Bill Kilfoil (Sharon), Timothy Kilfoil (Diana) and Joe Kilfoil (Alma) and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many extended family. Born on February 6, 1944 in Juniper, NB, he was the son of the late Ralph and Arlene (Ireland) Hatheway. Carroll was the owner/operator of Hatheway TV and Atlantic Security Equipment. He loved animals, especially dogs, and being surrounded by friends and family. Carroll enjoyed piloting airplanes, boating, motorcycles and many activities involving on/off road vehicles. In addition to his wife, Carroll is survived by his son, Mike Hatheway (Monica) of Fredericton; grandchildren, Andrew and Lyla Hatheway; brother, Don Hatheway (Barbara) of Fredericton; nephew, Bob Hatheway; niece Pam Hatheway; loving in-laws, including Vinal, Sharron, Kevin and Kathy; nieces, nephews, and a host of long-time friends.
