    John Young, born in Kilmarnock, Scotland Feb 22, 1826, arrived in Glassville abt. August 22nd 1862, boarding with the John Millie family. About 1864 John purchased the adjoining farm, Lot. 40, Range 2 (see Southern Settlement Map) where he built a house and barns. In 1864, John met Matilda Pender of Petersville, Queens County when she came to visit her sister Jane, Mrs. Hugh Miller. John and Matilda married 8 December 1868 in the log home of Hugh and Jane Miller. John and Matilda had two children Maggie Isabella (who married David Henry Lamont) and John A. (9 November 1872 - 9 November 1947), who never married.
    John Young died in Glassville November 5th 1910.

    John married Matilda Reid PENDER on 7 Dec 1868 in Glassville, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada.   2. 3.  Matilda Reid PENDERMatilda Reid PENDER was born on 22 Jun 1832 in New Jerusalem, Queens County (daughter of Living); died on 15 Apr 1904 in Glassville, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada; was buried in 1904 in United Church Cemetery, Glassville, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada.

    Matilda Reid Pender, the youngest daughter of James Pender and Margaret Pender (nee Reid) of New Jerusalem, Petersville Parish, Queens County, New Brunswick, was born 29 February 1832. Matilda married John Young December 8, 1868, the marriage taking place in Glassville at the home of her sister, Jane (Mrs. Hugh Miller).
    John and Matilda Young lived in what was believed to have been one of the first “plastered” houses in Glassville, said to have been built by the Simpson’s and Pearson’s.
    Matilda was considered a fine tailor due to her sewing skills. The family had sheep and she would collect the wool, wash it, wind it and spin it into yarn. She made blankets, yard goods, and men’s suits. She was also know for her beautiful quilts and cooking skills.
    Matilda died at home in Glassville 15 April 1904.
