    Notes:

    Emily Kathleen (Kay) Wade
Kay Wade, formerly of Harvey, NB, wife of the late Leonard ‘Len’ Alban Wade, passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 9, 2020 at her home at Shannex, Thomas Hall in Fredericton, NB. Kay was born at Glassville, Carleton County, NB on January 31, 1929, a daughter of the late James and A. Kathleen (Miller) Hovey.

Kay was a retired R.N. having received her education and training at the Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton, graduating in 1950, the same year as she married Len. She dedicated her life to her career as an R.N. and to her family. As part of a military family, Kay managed to blend many postings and her nursing career while having four children.

Upon retiring in 1983, she and Len moved from Ottawa, ON to their Harvey Lake residence. Kay spent her retirement years clogging, square dancing, playing bridge and traveling to their winter home in Florida. With the birth of grandchildren, Kay and Len traveled far afield to provide loving support. Kay was an avid gardener and enjoyed picking and preserving raspberries, apples and fiddleheads. She also found joy in baking, knitting and sewing for her family. In her later years, Kay stayed active with all her hobbies and took on the role of caring for her husband and relished the many annual Hovey Family Reunions.

Kay is survived by her children, Debra Drijber (Rudy), Moffatt, ON, Deanna Wade, Fredericton, NB, James Wade (Maria), League City, TX and Cheryl Weekes, Fredericton, NB; eleven grandchildren, Cailin, Dan and Luke Drijber, Robbie, Lisa and Adam Kennedy, Alysha-Rae, Amber and Alannah Weekes, Daniel Mitchell and Tina Lashambe; six great grandchildren; her sisters, Carolyn Rowe (Ronald), Harvey, NB and Marilyn Hicks (William), Fredericton, NB; a brother-in-law, Gerald Covey, Fredericton, NB; many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kay was predeceased by two grandchildren, Sarah and Benjamin Drijber; her sisters, Jean Flemming and June Covey; and a special friend Lloyd Dawson.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Fredericton, NB.

For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Kay, the family has suggested the Brunswick Street Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.

    WILLIAM LYON

    GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY1907

Mr. and Mrs. William Lyon of Glassville were treated to an agreeable surprise on

Thursday, July 18 when their sons and daughters, numbering nine, together with grandchildren to the number of 46, assembled at their house to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Only one son was absent, he being at present in South Africa.

All the arrangements had been kept secret so that when the party arrived they were not

suspecting anything of what was to take place and thus were given perhaps one of the greatest surprises of their lives. Mr. & Mrs. Lyon formerly lived in Scotland but came to make Glassville their home 40 years ago. A number of their old friends who came over from their old home in Scotland at or near the same time were invited to be present. Among these present were Peter Millie and his wife, Duncan McDonald and wife, Charles Wilson and daughter, all of Glassville.

Mr. Lyon was presented with a handsome monogrammed gold watch, Mrs. Lyon with a solid gold wedding ring. When all were assembled for tea, Peter Millie in a neat address made the presentation. Mr. Lyon responded in a few well-chosen words expressing his thanks to those present for the pleasures given him by their presence and for the greatly appreciated present. After tea had been served all. were again assembled for a group photograph, a photographer being engaged for the occasion that each might have a valuable souvenir of the event. After many congratulations and well wishes the guests began to depart. Some of the family remained to pay a longer visit to their home.

A number of young people from the village assembled in the evening and enjoyed a

pleasant social evening and ate up some of the remnants of the feast.

Mr. Lyon is 77 years of age while Mrs. Lyon is 69 but both are enjoying good health and

were in excellent spirits for the occasion of their anniversary. It is the wish of friends and

relatives that they may enjoy many years of health and happiness.
