      Rick Alan De Merchant Obituary
      Hamilton, Ontario - DeMERCHANT, Rick

With hearts that are breaking, we announce the passing of Rick De Merchant on July 23, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, after a valiant battle with liver cancer, in his 58th year. Rick was the beloved husband of Silvana for 29 years. He will be tremendously missed by his son, Michael, whom he cherished. Rick was very fond of Michael's partner, Erica, welcoming her with open arms into their family. Rick's loving mother, June De Merchant (Parks), will miss him and cherish his memory as will his two sisters, Cheryl Lafrenière (Marc) and Ivy Biacsi. Rick will be fondly remembered by his two sisters-in-law, Josie Huynh (Dan) and Mary Cascagnette (Ron). He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. Rick is now reunited with his dear father, Perley ("Al") and his loving mother and father-in-law, Angelo and Maria Diliberto. Rick was a man of many hobbies: war medal collecting and Dungeons and Dragons Online. He bowled for many decades at various leagues throughout Hamilton. His favourite pastime was fishing and the family is grateful he was able to have one last fishing trip to a cottage near Wilberforce, Ontario doing what he loved most: fishing with his buddies. Rick took pride in knowing he finally achieved a lifelong goal of working for the Canada Revenue Agency. Heartfelt gratitude to the amazing nursing staff at the Juravinski Hospital (Ward C-3), special thanks to nurse Philomena and to Dr. Shaikh for their compassion and support of the family during this challenging time. Visitation at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL HOME 43 Barton St E, Hamilton on Sunday, July 27, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of All Souls Roman Catholic Church, 21 Barton St W, Hamilton. Cremation to follow and interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Liver Canada in Rick's memory.
