      Earl Ivan Nelson
      1912-2000

Earl I. Nelson, 87, died unexpectedly September 19, 2000 at a Bangor hospital. He was born November 23, 1912 at Charleston, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Charles and Emma (Dye) Nelson. During World War II, he was a guard at Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He also worked for a time in a shipyard, but retired from H. P. Hood Company in Newport after 27 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and will be remembered for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed tying flies and making canoes by hand. He owned one of the first snowmobiles in Newport and could build and fix almost anything.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce E. (Prior) Nelson of Newport; a son and wife Harold E. and Deborah Nelson, also of Newport; and 2 step-grandsons, Wyatt and Gavin Trundy; 2 step daughters, Dorothy Luce of Augusta, and Patricia Fuller of Topsham; 2 grandsons, Malcolm Fuller and wife Yvette of Stratton and Wayne Fuller, Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska; a niece Shirley Parker and nephew Bill Wilson, both of North Bay, Ontario.

At the family'srequest, there will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 1 P.M. Friday, September 22nd, at Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating. Interment will be in the family lot, Riverside Cemetery, Newport, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the People's United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 64 Main Street, Newport, ME04953.
