  Obituary: Joyce Esther Nelson 1924-2018 NEWPORT – Joyce Esther Nelson, 93, passed away March 31, 2018 at her residence with family in attendance. She was born June 13, 1924 in Williamstown, New Brunswick, Canada, a daughter of Percy and Beatrice (Anderson) Prior. Joyce married Francis Perkins and they had 2 daughters, Dorothy Luce and Patricia Fuller. She moved to the United States in April 1954 with her second husband, Earl Ivan Nelson. Their son Harold was born in 1956. Joyce was an avid sewer and quilter. She also made crafts and worked many functions for the People’s United Methodist Church. Her speciality was “corn chowder” at their monthly luncheons. She also made 50+ pairs of mittens for the church. She was also a clerk at Newport Confectionery for Carl Titcomb. Joyce and Earl hunted, fished, and berried for many years and always had a garden. She also enjoyed her many flowers around the house. She leaves a daughter, Patricia Fuller; son Harold Nelson and wife Deborah; 2 grandsons, Malcolm and wife Yvette, and Wayne Fuller. Both of her grandsons live in Alaska. Joyce was able to visit them in the early 2000’s. She said it was quite a trip. She is also survived by 2 step grandchildren, Wyatt and Gavin Trundy. She was always willing to help out friends and family. Joyce was predeceased by he husband, Earl; and her daughter Dorothy. A memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday June 13th, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. Burial will follow at the family lot, Riverside Cemetery, Newport.
