Julie Anne Whitt passed away June 7, 2025, at the age of 88.
Daughter of the late Wendell Davis Watson and Margaret L. Watson. Loving wife of the late Ronald K. Whitt of Middletown, Ohio. Devoted mother to R. Keith Whitt and wife Darlene of Hanover, Wendell D. Whitt and wife Debra of Rockland and Craig S. Whitt and wife Karin of Kingston. Devoted grandmother to Lindsay and husband Taner, Katie and husband Dan, Keith and wife Jenn, Jake and wife Brittany, Bryan, Cassidy, Lucas, Emily, Tommy and Jared. Great-grandmother to Ayla, Teagan, Charlie, Evren, Penny, Sienna, Jack and Emma.
Julie was born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 13, 1936. After graduating from Teaneck High School in Teaneck, New Jersey, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Bethany College in West Virginia, where she met the love of her life, Ron. The two married in 1958 and moved to Quantico, Virginia; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and then Oakland, New Jersey, as Ron served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. They eventually settled in Hanover, Massachusetts, where they raised their three sons.
Julie continued her education, earning a Master’s plus 45 from Cambridge College. In 1970 she began her career as an elementary school teacher, a profession she was very proud of. It was at Cedar Elementary School in Hanover where she mentored hundreds of students until retiring after her thirty-third year. Despite her strict teaching style, she was highly respected and deeply valued by both her students and peers alike, receiving numerous awards and accolades.
Next to teaching, Julie’s greatest joy was being a grandmother. She cherished time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially hosting summer days by the pool and holidays at Grove St., where she and Ron created a warm, welcoming home filled with laughter, love, and lasting memories.
Julie was also an avid gardener, reader, Mahjong player, and active member of her community. Married to Ron for sixty-six years, they traveled extensively with friends and spent many winters in retirement at Siesta Key, Florida, where they enjoyed walking, golfing, beachgoing, and dining out.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21st from 12-2:00pm at Sullivan Funeral Home: 551 Washington Street, Hanover, MA 02339.
Julie will be buried at Hanover Center Cemetery in a private ceremony following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Julie’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 43 Worcester Street, Wellesley, MA 02481.
