Alton M. Watson
1934-2025
With heavy hearts we share the news of the sudden passing of Alton Marvin Watson which occurred on August 8, 2025, at the Veteran's Health Unit in Fredericton. Born on September 3rd, 1934, in Four Falls, NB, he was the son of the late Ernest and Almeda (Donovan) Watson. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Eloise Charlene (McAffee) Watson, his wife of 65 years as well as siblings Dennis, Winston, Almon, Adelia McConnell, Robert, and Emily McConnell.
He was a man of many talents and he did them all to the very best of his ability. As a young man he gave his heart and life to the Lord and that changed everything. He joined the Military and together he and Mom travelled on postings to Petewawa, Gagetown and Germany as his family grew around him. He rose to the rank of Master Warrant Officer with the Eighth Hussars in the Canadian Armed Forces. Following retirement they returned to New Brunswick and home was now Knoxford. He excelled at his custodial job at the Centreville Elementary School and left many close friends behind when he retired from there. At home he was an accomplished craftsman with his woodworking skills and cabinet making ability. If you were the recipient of one of his beautiful pieces, you have a treasure. His garden was rivalled by no one and we were all blessed by its bounty. In later years he mastered bread making and no one made bread as good as Dad’s!
He made the transition from home owner to resident of the Veterans Unit in Fredericton over the last year and he did it with dignity and compliance. Now he is in his brand new home where he is reunited with his beautiful Charlene.
Alton is survived by his four children, Elaine DuPlessis (Johnson), Steve Watson (Wendy), Pam Phillips (Neil), and Jeff Watson (Catherine); eleven grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, Joel, Ian, Ben, Ashley, Bryce, Sophie, Jillian, Karina, and Cassandra; nineteen great grandchildren, Noah, Rebekah, Emilie, Lexie, Luke, Henry, Maisie, Colby, Gavin, Lydia, Jack, Sam, Leland, Myles, Leena, Ruby, Eloise, Austin, and Parker; three siblings, Ervin (Coleen), Judy Kilcollins, and Marilyn Dorogi, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be held from Calvary Tabernacle, 12 Legion Street, Perth Andover on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 14th, 2025 at 1:00 pm from the church. Rev. D.T. Ferrell officiating. The interment will be in the Lower Knoxford Cemetery following the service.
A very special thank you to Dr. David Bell who was Dad’s doctor for many years and also a distant relative which Dad loved to point out frequently! To the staff at the Veteran’s Unit in Fredericton; from the kitchen staff, to the nursing and personal support staff, and Dr Keddy, we cannot thank you enough for your care and kindness to our Dad. We are eternally grateful.
