- Obituary:
D. Jane Hovey
1934-2026
The family of (Dora) Jane Hovey, formerly of Hartland, NB, is sad to announce her passing at Carleton Manor in Woodstock, NB on January 9, 2026 after a period of failing health.
Jane was born to William and Dora (Hatfield) Hayward on February 19, 1934 in Simonds, Carleton County, NB. Jane was predeceased by her husband Graydon Hovey in 1997 after 46 years of marriage. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her brothers, Ivan Hayward (Gladys), George Hayward, and sisters, Tharon Cheney (Ben) and Mary Hayward, survived by her sisters-in-law, Maxine Hayward and Sandra Winter, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mum was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was also a very caring neighbor to all her friends on Crescent Garden in Hartland. She loved her family, church family and community. She was a lifetime member of the Hartland Baptist Church and spent many hours volunteering. Mum was always helping neighbors; knitting mittens, socks and sweaters for whoever needed them; making beautiful, perfectly stitched quilts; or volunteering at Central Carleton Nursing Home.
Because of Graydon’s love of sports, Mum was a loyal Blue Jays fan and never missed a televised game. She always wanted the latest updates on her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting endeavors, of which there were many.
Mum was an immaculate housekeeper and excellent cook who provided many great meals for her family, always providing her special rolls for her grandchildren.
Jane is survived by her children, Melanie (Brian) Antworth, Andrew Hovey and Kate (Lorne) Belyea; her grandchildren, Michael (Amy), Sarah (Kirk), William (Vanessa) and Peter (Amanda). Also her great grandchildren, Grady, Amelia, Adriana, Caelin, Carter, Emma, Easton, Addison and Cameron.
The family would like to thank the compassionate and caring staff at Carleton Manor for the excellent care they have given our Mum over the past two years.
Visitation will be held from Britton Funeral Home, 2 High Street, Hartland, NBon Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Dan Jamer officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in the spring.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to Greenwood Cemetery, Hartland or Hartland Baptist Church would be appreciated.
