- Obituary:
Adrian A. Hovey
1935-2024
Adrian Albright Hovey, 89, born January 3, 1935, passed away in his home Sunday, August 25, 2024. Surrounded by loving and caring family he went with our Lord in comfort and peace.
Adrian lived a full and active life growing up in Hartland, as can be acknowledged by all those who knew him. Growing up in the community he was very active in all sports, a member and deacon of the Hartland Baptist Church and the town barber. He began his working career as both a meat cutter at Russell Smith’s and starting the morning fire to warm the Victoria Corner School. He then worked as an employee of United Farmer Store and Aiton Drug Co. His final vocation and joy (after graduating first in his barbering class), was as a barber with his father, Ivan (Master Barber) for 10 years (which he considered an honour) and then on his own for 26 more years. For Adrian the barbershop was a place of community and friendly conversations. He always said he had a great group of customers and, "What felt good was when a customer was happy with his haircut – and especially when the customer’s mother came in and said so, as well."
Adrian had a love for the outdoors whether he was hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling or driving around in his truck.
He is predeceased by his wife of 54 years Melba (Anderson); parents Ivan and Mary (Albright) Hovey; his sister Audrey (Hollis) Baker; brothers Gerald (Leola) and Graydon.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Kristine); Andrea (David) McCurdy; David (Shannon); his sister Sandra (Ed) Winter, sisters-in-law Jane (Hayward) Hovey, and Jean Anderson Clark, and his grandchildren; Rachael Hovey; Carolyn (Colin) Ward; Michael and Jason McCurdy; Elizabeth and Samantha Hovey, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours are from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, August 28th, at Britton Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at the Hartland Baptist Church on Thursday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to those who cared so compassionately for Adrian through the Extramural Program, the Palliative Care Team, and Kindred Home Care.
Donations may be made to Extramural Program, Hartland Baptist Church and Greenwood Cemetery.
