  Obituary: Geraldine Winnifred Cronkhite September 5, 1927 - January 7, 2017 Geraldine Winnifred Cronkhite passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 7, 2017. She was born on September 5, 1927 to Sterling and Clara (Greer) Harris. She was a loving mother to her children L. Wayne Cole (Jean) Liverpool N.S., Gerald Cole (Donna) Jacksonville, N.B., Valerie (Cole) Piper (Fred) Jacksonville, N.B., and Kelly (Cronkhite) Little (Stephen) Jacksonville, N.B., 3 stepsons Dale Cronkhite (Pat) Lindsay N.B., Keith Cronkhite (Ann Marie) Woodstock N.B. and Don Carr, Caroline A.B. Gerry was a doting grandmother to 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 7 great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Flewelling, Plymouth, N.B., her brother Elmer Harris, Bedell N.B., long time friend, Joan Porter and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husbands Lewis Cole in 1961 and Earl Cronkhite in 1992, great grandson Glen Bruce and her sister Mildred Simonson. Geraldine was a devoted wife and mother. She was a great animal lover and she and her first husband, Lewis raised ponies and dogs at their home in Northampton until his death in 1961. In 1964 she moved back to Jacksonville and was a single working mother until her marriage to her second husband, Earl in 1967. They also raised horses for several years and Geraldine continued to enjoy her miniature horses and tiny lap dogs until she retired to the Central Carleton Nursing Home in 2006. Geraldine was a very loving and giving person, always ready to offer help and assistance to anyone in a time of need. Her door was always open for a visit, with a cup of tea and her famous cookies in endless supply. All of her grandchildren fondly remember those treats and Grammys’ cookie containers were always their first stop on their visits. The family would like to thank the wonderful and compassionate care offered by the staff of the Central Carleton Nursing Home to Geraldine during her time with them. Their patience, understanding and thoughtful actions will forever be appreciated by the family. Visitation will be held at The Carleton Funeral Home & Crematorium 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 7 PM to 9 PM and on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 11:30 to 12:30. Funeral service for Geraldine will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 1 PM from The Carleton Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be held in the Upper Jacksonville Cemetery.
