The death of Frank Windsor Laing of Gordonsville occurred on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Perth-Andover. Born September 23, 1918 in Glassville, he was the son of the late Gordon and Agnes (Simpson) Laing and husband of the late Hermine "Mien" (Vanfulpen) Laing.

Frank is survived by his son, Peter Tompkins (Virgina); 3 grandchildren, Natalie Tompkins (Nick Olmstead), Eric Tompkins and Nick Tompkins; 1 great grandson, Jaxson Olmstead; siblings, Rod Laing, Norma Tompkins, Barb Tompkins and Jennie Giberson and many nieces and nephews.

Frank was predeceased by his parents; wife Mien; and siblings, Doug, Gordon, Jack, Alice and Maude.

Visitation will be held at L. R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd., Florenceville-Bristol on Thursday, November 25, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 26, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the L. R. Giberson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mark Thompson officiating.

Interment will be in the Glassville United Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

The Legion Branch # 37 will hold a tribute service Thursday evening at 6:45 pm.

Jennie E Giberson
January 21, 1921 - July 13, 2020
On July 13, 2020 our mother, Jennie E. Giberson passed peacefully away
at Oromocto Public Hospital after a brief illness. For the past nine
years Jennie was resident to Eden Retirement Villa, Fredericton, NB.
Until the days of COVID 19 she enjoyed getting out with family,
shopping and having a great meal at a Fredericton restaurant.
Born to Agnes (Simpson) and Gordon Laing of West Glassville, Jennie is
the last surviving member of the family. She married Arthur J.
Giberson on August 17, 1940. They raised 10 children, worked the farm
in South Johnville, and created much with limited resources. Surviving
children are: Kerry (Maxine), better known as Jud, residing in
Fredericton; Anne (Paul Black) of Windsor, ON; Ruth M. (Ian Giberson),
Florenceville-Bristol; Amy Brown, Saint John; Joan (Gregg Nuttall),
Sackville, NB; Jean (Steve Barron), Rice Lake, ON; Holly (Gordon
Saunders) Lucan, ON; Beth (Daniel Ryan) Brampton, ON. Predeceased
family include her Husband, Arthur, Sons Robert and Keith;
Daughter-in-law, Ruth C. Giberson; Son-in-law, Derek Brown; Grandson
Blue Giberson. She leaves 16 grandchildren, several great
grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She will be remembered by
all she leaves behind for her resilience, creativity, resourcefulness
and quick wit.

burial at the Mineral Cemetery on Thursday, July 16th at 11:00 a.m.

It is with sadness that the family of Barbara Tompkins, formerly of Stickney and Florenceville, announces her passing on June 5. For the past few years Barbara has been a resident of Paradise Villa, Douglas, N.B.
Barbara was born in West Glassville, the fourth daughter of Agnes E. (Simpson) and Gordon M. Laing. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Jean (Andrew) Martell and her son Clayton (Judy), plus nine grandchildren: Tim Martell, Duncan Martell, Heidi Helbrecht, Heather Russo, Nathan Tompkins, Troy Tompkins, Cassandra McParlan, Kimberly Inglis and Matthew Tompkins and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her old sister Jennie Giberson. She was predeceased by her husband Howard and son Malcolm, her parents, plus four brothers and three sisters.
Barbara left home as a teenager to work in Bristol and Stickney. She and Howard were married on July 5, 1941. When Howard was discharged from the army in 1945 they took up residence in Stickney. They later purchased the Cheerio Motel and Dairy Bar in Florenceville and operated it for several years. After Howard’s passing, she moved to Fredericton.
Barbara kept an immaculate home and was an incredible cook. She loved to bake and her grandchildren were often the happy recipients of the dozens of cookies and other sweets she made over the years. She also enjoyed her flower garden, collecting antiques, and cross border shopping trips. She is especially remembered for her work ethic.
The family is appreciative of the compassionate care that Paradise Villa staff and management provided. A “special thank you” to Dr. Will Stymiest for his visits to Paradise Villa and follow-up phone calls regarding our mother’s health.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations in her memory may be made to Hunter’s Cemetery or the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick or a charity of your choosing.
Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, a private interment service has taken place and a memorial service will be held later.

Marion Jean Spence
1913-2011

Marion Jean Spence of Juniper passed away peacefully on March 31, 2011 at the Upper River Valley Hospital. Born on November 29, 1913, she was the daughter of the late David H. Lamont and Maggie (Young) Lamont, and wife of the late Gordon Spence.

Marion attended teacher’s college in Fredericton. Over the years, she taught in several one-room school houses and at Juniper Elementary School. She was an active member of the United Church of Canada, serving as an elder for many years. Known for her generosity within her community and beyond, she supported numerous activities and charities.

Marion is survived by her daughter Barb O’Donnell, granddaughter Jennifer O’Donnell, grandson Andrew O’Donnell (Nicole), great-grandson Wyatt O’Donnell, several nieces, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband Gordon Spence; son Robert Spence; and her sisters Hilda Ronald, Bess McIntosh, Anne Fitzgerald, and Marge Martinson.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 2, 2011 from L. R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Marion’s life will be held Sunday, April 3 at 2:30 p.m. from the L. R. Giberson Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Mary Taylor officiating. A reception will follow the celebration of her life, hosted next door at Faith Memorial United Church. Interment will be in the Glassville United Church Cemetery in the spring.

Elsie Elizabeth McIntosh of Glassville passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Mount Haven Special Care Home in Glassville. She was born July 8, 1930 and was the daughter of the late William and Mary McIntosh. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mildred Fraser, and her brother-in-law, Angus Fraser.

Elsie was a school teacher for the Province of New Brunswick for 35 years, 28 of those years being at the Hartland High School. Elsie was also involved in many organizations; the Girl Guides, The Naturalist Club of New Brunswick, The Canadian Nature Federation, the UCW both in Glassville and Hartland, and the I.O.D.E.

Elsie is survived by her brother Gerald (Sandra) McIntosh; sister. Mary (Paul) Campbell; nieces and nephews.

Ruth Murphy Morse

Fryeburg - Ruth Harriet Murphy Morse passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015. Ruth was born on December 12, 1926, in West Glassville, NB, Canada. She was the daughter of Ernest David Murphy and Harriett Mary Black.
Ruth graduated from Fredricton, NB, Normal School and the University of Maine at Presque Isle, and received her master's degree from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1971. She married Kempton John Morse in 1948 and became an American citizen. Her teaching career began in West Glassville, NB, teaching in a oneroom school house. She went on to teach in Easton, Presque Isle, Fryeburg Academy and Kennett High School. Ruth loved her summers at East Grand Lake. Fishing, playing cards, scrabble, sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting and Words with Friends, were just a few of her favorite things. She enjoyed her many dear friends and especially time with her family.
Ruth is survived by daughters, Linda Cronkite of Lewiston, ME, and Louise Maillett and husband, Patrick, of Fryeburg, ME; grandsons, Jerod and wife, Kristen, of Rockport, ME, Garth Cronkite and wife, Deedra, of Glenwood, MD, Amos Maillett and wife, Maria, Joshua Maillett and wife, Elizabeth, and Caleb Maillett and wife, Lauren, of Fryeburg ME; and great-grandchildren, Jeremy Brock and fiancee, Mckenzie Houp, of Bangor, ME, Madison Cronkite of Rockport, ME, Gavin and Grady Cronkite of Glenwood MD, Kempton and Ana Maillett of Fryeburg, ME, and Cecelia Maillett of Fryeburg, ME. LEE, GRETA JOYCE - 1936-2003 - Joyce Lee of Bristol, NB passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at the Northern Carleton Hospital, Bath, NB at the age of 67. Joyce is survived by her companion Deane Crabbe, sons Stephen Lee of Glassville, NB and Duane Lee of Knowlesville, NB, sisters Evelyn Bragdon of Glassville and Jackie McNeill of Saint John, brother Doug Patrick of Ontario, and grandsons Kenneth, John and Ben. Peacefully on Tuesday, January 29th, 2013, in her 93rd year, dearly loved mother of her son Jim (Edyth) of Oakville, ON and grandmother of Andrew (Megan Shram) and Kate (Kevin) Matchett, of Toronto, ON. Born on February 27, 1920 in Glassville, NB, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Hilda (Lamont) Ronald. Ronnie was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Ronald McAfee (1999), her brothers Charles and David (Glassville), her sisters Kathryn Holt (Saint John), Marjorie Brown (Bath) and Ruth McIntosh (Glassville). She is survived by her two great-granddaughters, Kyla Matchett and Charlotte McAfee, her sister Joan Smith (Millidgeville), her sister-in-law, Gladys McAfee (East Saint John), as well as several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She completed high school at Florenceville Superior School and graduated from the Saint John General Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1943. Passionately proud of her profession as a nurse, Ronnie conducted herself with a high standard of integrity, compassion and quiet dignity in all aspects of her life. Over the many decades that she lived in Saint John she was an avid gardener. She enjoyed curling and cross-country skiing for several years and her volunteer efforts included the Heart & Stroke Foundation as well as Meals on Wheels. Her greatest joy, however, was her family - both immediate and extended - there was always an assortment of homemade cookies and squares available for any and all visitors to her home. Appreciation and thanks are extended to the staff at Embassy Hall for providing a safe and caring environment in her final years. The funeral service will be held from the chapel at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, on Saturday, February 16th, 2013 at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. Born in Woodstock, NB on July 26, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Robert Jardine and Hilda Matilda (Lamont) Ronald. Prior to starting a family, Joan worked as a Radiotherapy Technician at the Saint John General Hospital. An avid volunteer, Joan had various roles and responsibilities with many different organizations; she was the provincial coordinator for the Mastectomy Reach to Recover Program, a Director of the NB Cancer Society, the District Commissioner for Girl Guides NB, Director for Girl Guides Canada, a Director of NBPOH/New Brunswick Children’s Foundation, a member of the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels, The Hospice Shoppe, Imperial Theatre, and she held various positions at Portland United Church. An avid gardener, Joan also established and maintained the Oncology Garden at the Saint John Regional Hospital, and she also loved spending time in her own garden. She loved doing anything outdoors, and spending time with her family and friends. Joan is survived by her daughter, Janet Diamond (John); son, Stephen (Tara); five grandchildren: Jeffrey, Gregory, and Robert Diamond and Rachelle and Alexander Smith; as well she will be missed by extended family members and many very dear and close friends. The death of J. Bonar Brown, of Glassville, occurred on February 21, 2011 at River View Manor, Bath. Born on October 12, 1930, he was the son of the late John Malcolm and Lillian (MacDougall) Brown and husband to Marilyn (Flemming) Brown.

Bonar loved the outdoors, farming and dogs. He drove school bus for 25 plus years, was a member of the Northern Carleton Hospital Board and a sales rep. for Carleton Mutual Fire Insurance Company. Bonar lived a well balanced life between family, faith and community. He loved his family dearly.

Bonar is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; Children, Allison Brown (Jennifer), Sharon Charlton (Harry), John Brown (Nancy), Jay Brown (Randi), Kevin Brown (Gayle), Fred Brown (Lisa) and Kendall Brown; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and one grandson, Kyle.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hazel M. Watson of Centreville, NB announces that her death occurred on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville. She was born on November 19, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Leslie and Myra (Robinson) Barclay. She was also predeceased by her infant son Herman and her sister Dorothy Farquhar.

Following her graduation from Andover Grammar School Hazel attended the L. P. Fisher Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946. After graduation she worked for a total of three years as a nurse at the hospitals in Woodstock and Blacks Harbour. Hazel married David Watson on June 29,1949 and they eventually settled in Centreville where they spent most of their married lives. Hazel played a vital role in the kitchen of the Green Lantern Restaurant (which the family ran from 1953 until 1967) turning a skilled and loving hand to everything from peas to pies. She worked as a nurse at the Northern Carleton Hospital in Bath from 1964 until her retirement in 1988, providing her tender loving care to countless patients, especially moms and their new babies. Retirement didn’t mean “stop” to Hazel as she busied herself with countless activities including gardening, playing cards, attending Women’s’ Institute meetings and functions, family functions, the annual Nova Scotia shopping trip and thus earning the well- deserved handle of “The Road Runner.” She had a special love for her family and thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Hazel is survived by her husband of 63 years David, her children Marsha (David) VanSlyke, Audrey (Jeff) Cooke, David (Donna) Watson, Michael (Susan) Watson and Joan (Lionel) Pryor; grandchildren Kelly (Jason) Fortier, Christopher, Gregory (Erin), Andrew (Jorge), and Brent VanSlyke, Andrea (Michael) Willis, Amy (Luc), Allison (Isaiah) and David (Cindy) Watson, Danielle and Justin Upshall, and Jonathan Pryor; and great granddaughter Amber VanSlyke; 1 sister, Mavis (Earl) Smith; 1 brother, George(Gail) Barclay; brother in law, Joseph Farquhar and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joan Louise Stoddard 1941-2015

Joan Louise Stoddard of Juniper passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the River View Manor in Bath. She was born April 6, 1941 in Florenceville, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Burnham. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Stoddard and a brother-in-law,Norman Guerrier.

Joan is survived by her children, James (Paulette) Stoddard of Saint John, Charles (Rhodora) Stoddard of Fort McMurray, AB, Louise (Lester) Sprague of Rockland, Susan (Randy) Guthrie of Glassville; grandchildren, Megan (Nick Prosser) Sprague, Zachary Sprague, Isaac Guthrie, Brandon Guthrie; sisters, Sandra (Gerald )McIntosh, Charlotte Guerrier; nieces and nephews.

visitation will be held at L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors on Thursday, March 19th from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be on Friday, March the 20th at 1:00 p.m. from the L.R. The death of John Robert McDougall of Connell occurred on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at his home. Born October 6, 1951 in Bath he was the son of the late Ronald and Desta (Saunders) McDougall.

John is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Gloria; 3 children, Stacey McDougall; Alanda Lang (Ryan) and Jason McDougall (Kara); 4 grandchildren, Jacob, Robin, Lilah and Charleigh; 2 siblings, Ruth Remming (Gerry) and Alan McDougall (Bonnie) as well as aunts, uncles, and extended family.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Emma Amber Janet Pearson of Glassville which occurred by accident on Sunday, July 5, 2015. Born in Woodstock on May 26, 1999 she was the daughter of Brent and Kim (Underhill) Pearson.

Emma is survived by her parents, Brent and Kim; 2 brothers, Dallas and Jackson; grandparents, Amber Ross (Blair) and Irvin Underhill Irene Lloyd (Delbert); 2 aunts, Trudy Stiles (Brian) and Brenda McQuade (Roger); 7 cousins, Caitlyn Underhill, Brady Worden, Zachary Worden, Hilary Stiles, Teena McQuade, Deana McQuade and Jada McQuade as well as extended family and friends that loved her very much.

Emma is predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Murray and Janet Pearson, 1 uncle, Scott Underhill and 1 cousin, Justin Stiles.

Jason James Millie of Nackawic, NB passed away September 27, 2019 at Nackawic as the result of a motorcycle accident. Jason was born December 12, 1973 at Woodstock, NB, a son of Larry and Carol (Brown) Millie.

He is survived by his wife, Robin Setchell; his children, Briana Millie and Jordan Millie; a granddaughter, Norah; his parents, Larry and Carol Millie; his brother, Michael Millie (Victoria); the mother of his children, Sarah Sampson; his parents-in-law, John and Nancy Setchell; a brother-in-law, Teddy Setchell (Nancy); four nephews, Owen, Ben, James and Mason; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation was held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 12 noon to 2 pm, followed by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Legere officiating. A eulogy was delivered by Jason's brother Michael. Music was provided by Oland Monteith. Interment will be held at a later date at Glassville United Cemetery.

BROWN, KYLE ANDREW DEC. 3, 1995 - NOV. 25, 2006 By accident in Glassville on Saturday November 25, 2006, Kyle Andrew Brown passed away at the age of 10. Kyle was in Cristy Demerchants Grade 6 class at the Florenceville Middle School, He loved playing on his Pee Wee Hockey Team, Sunday School at the Knowlesville UBC, swimming lessons at the Florenceville and Bath pools, fishing (and feeding the fish in the fish pond), hunting more than anything, Kyle loved to farm everyday.
