Rev. C. Francis Anderson

Services for the Rev. C. Francis Anderson, 93, of the Alliance Home, 770 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Alliance Home Chapel.

He died Saturday in the home.

Born Oct. 25, 1898, in Canada, he was a son of the late John and Margaret Elliott Anderson. He was the widower of Sarah Greeley Anderson.

He was a graduate of Nyack College, Nyack, N.Y. He was a pastor with the Christian Missionary Alliance Church for 37 years, serving churches in the New England states.

Surviving are one son, the Rev. Dwight Anderson of Baltic, Conn.; two daughters, Ethel Robbins of Ducanville, Texas, and Ada Flecher of Waxhaw, N.C.; one brother, Hudson of Gaylord, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Robert B. Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in Kutz's Cemetery, Middlesex Township.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service Thursday at the chapel.

Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements.

Centreville (Carleton Co.) Feb. 22 - The last enemy of mankind to be destroyed has been busy of late. On 11th inst., he entered the home of Joseph RITCHIE of Greenfield and took from him and his wife their only child, Lulu Elizabeth RITCHIE, age 5 mos. 13 days. On Monday 13th inst., 2 p.m., she was buried by Rev. J.E. Flewelling. Her father had been unwell for some time with a bad cough and so lame with rheumatism that he could hardly walk and therefore was confined to the house. Mr. Ritchie died 18th inst. On Monday 20th, friends gathered at the house of the deceased to sympathize with the weeping widow. On 30th Sept. 1886 she was married and within one year and five months is husbandless and childless.

Obituary:

The sudden death of Mrs. Charles Gee took place at her home in Summerfield, April 8. She was taken ill on Friday morning and passed peacefully away on Sunday in her 57th year. The deceased was the daughter of Perez and Martha Smith of Summerfield. She was a member of the Methodist church since early girlhood and was much loved by all who knew her. Loving hands and medical skill could be done but to no avail. She leaves to mourn their sad loss, her sorrowing husband and eight children, two sons Merrill and Manzer and six daughters, Mrs. Howard Antworth, Mrs. Lee Thomas of Greggsettlement, Mrs. Russel Green, Summerfield, Mrs. Lewis Lawrecne and Mrs. Alvin Hayden, Knoxford and Clara at home. Fifteen grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Brown and Mrs. Simmon Lunn, Lowell Mass., three brothers, James and William, Summerfield, Charles of Riverside, Calif. The funeral service was held at the Summerfield Methodist Church on Tuesday at 2 o'clock by the Pastor Rev. D R Chowen. Interment was made in the Summerfield Cemetery before the service.
Dearest Mother thou has left us none can ever fill thy place and out hearts are bowed in sorrow when we think of thy dear face.

Northampton (Carleton Co.) March 8 - An old landmark has been removed by death of Nathan ROGERS, Sr., Thursday 5th inst. Mr. Rogers was born 79 years ago and is well known along the St. John river, having engaged extensively in lumbering and tow-boating. Mr. Rogers was one of a large family and leaves one brother and one sister. His remains were interred at Greenbank, Saturday.

A sad drowning accident happened at Glassville (Carleton Co.) Thursday. Two young men, Harry HOME and Fred B. THOMAS, were swimming in Gilmore's mill pond, when Home suddenly sank. Mr. Thomas made every effort to rescue the drowning man, but faiing, ran for help, which, however, came too late and when the body was recovered life was extinct. He was about 22 years old and was the s/o Rev. John HOME of Glassville.

395 Mary Smith (or Smyth) was born June 6, 1838 in Scotland. She married James Young, who was born August 20, 1828 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, the younger brother of John Young. James and Mary came to Canada and settled in Glassville in 1864. They arrived with two or three young children, and more were born after their arrival. James was granted lot 57, south of Green Brook. His farm was later owned by Charles Porter and others. James and Mary lived the rest of their lives in Glassville. James died the 20th of April 1917, and Mary died the 6th of May, 1919. SMITH, Mary (I11715)
 
396 Matilda Reid Pender, the youngest daughter of James Pender and Margaret Pender (nee Reid) of New Jerusalem, Petersville Parish, Queens County, New Brunswick, was born 29 February 1832. Matilda married John Young December 8, 1868, the marriage taking place in Glassville at the home of her sister, Jane (Mrs. Hugh Miller).
John and Matilda Young lived in what was believed to have been one of the first “plastered” houses in Glassville, said to have been built by the Simpson’s and Pearson’s.
Matilda was considered a fine tailor due to her sewing skills. The family had sheep and she would collect the wool, wash it, wind it and spin it into yarn. She made blankets, yard goods, and men’s suits. She was also know for her beautiful quilts and cooking skills.
Matilda died at home in Glassville 15 April 1904.
